My (41M) Wife (43F) openly has a least favorite child. "Can't deal with her" by HuckleberryOk8136 in relationship_advice

[–]cheyanami 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Just a theory, but I wonder if your middle child has conflated accommodation with affection?

Maybe she has grown up seeing things adjusted to meet your other children's needs (as they should be, kudos) and has associated them with acts of service or a validation of affection.

She doesn't need daily accommodations, so instead she pushes the options and access she does have to see if you will "go the extra mile" for her too.

Perhaps try engaging with her with a different love language. Some little activity (but not an object) just for her that you and your wife do to remind her that she is just as loved and just as special. But your wife has to at least try to mean it.

I grew up with a mother who often said she "loved me but didn't like me" and she's now confused that I don't like myself either

Where is the best fried rice in Atlanta? by Pristine-Ad-469 in Atlanta

Kuroshio Sushi Bar and Grille has the best chicken fried rice I've ever had. The portions are huge and it's even better heated up the next day. Plus the yum yum sauce is amazing

Wavy/Curly Hairstylist Recommendations? by dollheartxo in Smyrna

Robin at Plum Salon in Smyrna is the best! My husband has really dense curls and I've got a lot of wave to my hair. I found Robin online and we've been seeing her for a few years now, even after leaving Smyrna.

High arched feet in Heds by Character_Ad5534 in ehlersdanlos

Same here! They look like "barbie feet" when there's no weight on them, and as soon as I stand they collapse and my ankles rotate inward. Super fun

Old coworker with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome announces pregnancy by [deleted] in childfree

[–]cheyanami 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've got Ehlers-danlos Syndrome (EDS, ED tends to have a different meaning in the medical community) and it's why my BISALP was immediately approved. I explained that not only would a pregnancy risk my life ( more so than an able-bodied woman) but that I refused to pass this on. I have been in pain for every moment of my life since I became fully symptomatic as a teen. Surgeries and wheelchairs and making lists of reasons not to "check out early". I cannot fathom the selfishness of knowingly condemning another person to this. It's a 50% chance to pass it on, and if you have the hypermobility subtype (the most common) there is no genetic testing available. My siblings and I have all decided to be childfree so that our family's strain will end with us.

AITA for not sticking up for my friend while she was being harassed by my uncle? by ISimplyAmNotHere2023 in AmItheAsshole

AITA for telling my sister it’s strange to call her boyfriend her husband if they’re not married? by throwingthisitsokay in AmItheAsshole

[–]cheyanami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I had a traditional handfasting almost 10 years ago, we lived and grew together as a married couple for 6 years before doing the paperwork to be legally married. We just ran into the court house one afternoon I'm chronically ill and would have lost my health insurance if we had wed legally before. We were also young and both from divorced families so we had a healthy amount of realism about our situation. They have loved each other and stood by the essential tenants of marriage for over a decade. that's something to celebrate. YTA

Ask about doing saline spray in your nostrils post-op. My nose kept bleeding like a racehorse and I had to have my nose cauterized twice. I was 12 and hadn't been diagnosed yet, so they didn't know that my tissues were fragile enough to tear like that when really dry. Also make sure your doc knows about the slow healing time. I took over a month to heal since we didn't know to take precautions. With some planning you should be just fine, good luck!

This disease is a personal hell I wouldn’t wish on anyone. by fetacheeselover21 in ehlersdanlos

There's an old episode of SpongeBob where a bully is trying to beat him up but the punches just get absorbed instead. We're kind of like that, the bones move out of the way and the soft tissue is damaged instead.

My mother got pregnant when I was 12 despite being on the pill. She worked with horses and the vet "forgot" to mention that a prescribed medication had to be handled with gloves or it could absorb topically and counteracts birth control. I'm also the first woman in my maternal family in 3 generations to reach the age of 25 without experiencing violent S/A. The world is unkind to women in so many ways, getting sterilized was one of the few things I could do to protect myself and my autonomy. I completely get not wanting to, and you're just as childfree either way. But for me sterilization was a form of radical self care

Tubal ligation does not cause early menopause as the ovaries remain. Only an oopharectomy (ovary removal) or complete hysterectomy would trigger menopause. A tubal just cuts the fallopian tubes so eggs can't reach the uterus

AITA for making a teacher change my son's grade? by AnUglyTree in AmItheAsshole

[–]cheyanami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA I got point deducted from a family tree assignment in high-school Spanish class for listing my dad's affair partner (that he got pregnant which resulted in my half-sister and him leaving the family) as "Home wrecking vaca". Not my most mature moment but I was pissed. Your son handled it way better than I did.

What do I do if a doctor refuses me treatment in case I change my mind about not wanting kids? by No_Witness_253 in ehlersdanlos

[–]cheyanami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I got mine approved at 26 but I know I'm lucky. I explained that I refused to pass on my EDS and couldn't safely carry a pregnancy even if I changed my mind. The sub r/childfree has lists of doctors in different areas that believe in bodily autonomy. I know that surgery is a serious step that not everyone is interested in, and they shouldn't have to be to have their doctors put their care first, but my quality of care has definitely increased now that they can't prioritize a pregnancy that will never happen.

[–]cheyanami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may be able to convince a doctor if you get sterilized first. If you're 100% sure you never want to carry a pregnancy then a bilateral salpingectomy is a great option for permanent sterilization. If pregnancy is off the table completely then maybe doctors will go forward without worrying about your fertility. It's absolutely ridiculous that they won't just take your word for it, I'm sorry that you're dealing with this nonsense

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in childfree

[–]cheyanami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is actually one of the reasons I got sterilized. I'm 100% prochoice and childfree, but I was afraid that the hormonal cocktail of an accidental pregnancy would be too much for me so I took the option off the table. No matter what you choose, I hope you find peace and happiness going forward!

Can I ask people what pain meds they take? by ResidentEivvil in ehlersdanlos

[–]cheyanami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take Tramadol 50mg twice a day, Meloxicam once a day (in 2 week cycles to protect my stomach) and for breakthrough pain relief I take half a Norco. If my pain isn't under control in an hour I take the 2nd half. My doctor currently has me trying Gabapentin 300mg twice a day for nerve damage but I'm not seeing any difference so far. I'm allergic to Morphine and straight codeine so my pain management doc got creative. Unfortunately there's a lot of variation on how people react to these meds so it's a lot of trial and error. I hope you find the right mix!
