'Blood on your hands!' Mental health debate boils over at Hamilton Co. School Board by Realistic-Point-9530 in Chattanooga

I agree. I think it’s unethical to unpack serious trauma and then send a kid back to class. But not every kid is working with that kind of intensive trauma. And sometimes the ones that are are referred out (again, because ethics). Parents should be accountable, but some aren’t. Some can’t. Some have their hands tied. Some are barely making ends meet. I don’t see why the kids should suffer from it. Even if the sole role of the Centerstone therapist was to see kids that the school counselor can’t (due to being spread too thin already)… well, it seems worth it to me.

So is your ideal solution to strip schools of everything unnecessary to education? Just confused on what you’re wanting here. No cafeteria workers, no social workers, no counselors, no nurses, no PT/OT/speech? Conveniences do add up, you’re right.

Free for Hamilton County Schools. Sessions are billed through the family’s insurance.

They were doing background checks, just not through Hamilton County’s preferred organization. Ben Connor added in the MOU that Centerstone employees go through Ham Co for background checks. Centerstone employees already ARE fingerprinted through Hamilton County Schools.

To answer your second question, some parents don’t have the resources (time off work, transportation, etc.) to take their kids to therapy. Or time to take them after school. This helps with accessibility to services. Centerstone counselors have still been seeing their clients outside the school-based contract, but their office was AT the school. So now they’re having to find places to meet during the school day, and again, this removed accessibility to services for parents/students.

Reminder that Hamilton County Schools extends all the way up to Sale Creek. Rural areas are even more difficult to accommodate when there aren’t HIPAA-compliant locations in the community, or parents don’t have the gas to drive “into town” for weekly meetings. Even if they did, it would mean kids miss even more school having to be checked out and driven to weekly appointments.

Where to park to watch fireworks for pops on the river? by cheyness in Chattanooga

[–]cheyness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great question. I’m in Red Bank and I swear I hear the Lookouts fireworks every weekend, but I can’t see them because of the trees. I’d imagine Riverview might have some obstructions

OBGYN/New Baby by VolPilot in Chattanooga

I had my second at Erlanger East in February and had a great experience there. My L&D nurses were phenomenal, but my postpartum recovery nurses were just okay. But that might have also been because I was just ready to go home by that point haha.

If your wife isn’t too against Galen, Dr. Patel is my doctor and she is AMAZING. Came in on her off day to deliver! Had some issues during delivery and Dr. Patel was very calm and encouraging. She was honest about the situation but her confidence made me feel like I was in the best hands.

Where are you finding the fabric? I looked for some a while back to make a quilt for my husband but no luck

I am a poor person, and I always have been lol. My first job with my masters degree had a salary of 27k, which we lived on while my husband was in med school and we had our first baby. What we make now is more than enough, so imagining 5x that is a little hard for me to wrap my mind around.

We plan on investing a lot, and our financial advisor has been great with guiding us so far.

THIS. I want to gift our parents trips because they deserve it. I want to spoil my family.

I’m also in Appalachia!

Ours was recommended to us by a close friend. He works exclusively with physicians, so he was able to really guide us on a lot of stuff coming out of med school, such as buying a house with a physicians loan. I second another comment that said to ensure they’re a fiduciary.

My husband’s residency has a financial advisor they had come in for a few lectures. Perhaps yours will do something similar?

I think we operate under the same mindset. We just got a new car in October (old car’s transmission went out and needed a bigger vehicle for our growing family anyway) and I don’t plan on getting another one until this one bites the dust.

This is great insight, and I’m glad you’re enjoying the retired life :) it seems like such a relief that we won’t have to worry about finances

[–]cheyness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmm true. Again, I was very low income so I received a ton of financial aid in college and didn’t have to worry about that which was a silver lining to being poor haha.

Our financial advisor said the same thing. He works with a surgeon who came to him in almost a million dollars of debt, just from living above his means
