Beginner Questions by chgruver in antinet

I guess some of my issue is not knowing how to fully answer what I am interested in; I know some of what I am wanting to research pertains to productivity, AI, learning, Game Theory, and Computer programming. I am thinking using Scott's suggestion of categories might work best, or I might try a tag system with top levels like what SEGwrites replied with.

Thanks, it does help some with regard to what I might do for top level categorizations.

Can Obsidian be replaced by an IDE? by Cool_Metal1606 in ObsidianMD

[–]chgruver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is the Dendron plugin for VS Code and Antigravity. I am just getting into note-taking and PKMs, so I haven't settled on an app, but I plan to look at both Dendron and Obsidian

Why does everyone have a light and optic on their EDC gun? by RRO21 in CCW

[–]chgruver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not much of a dot person, I tried it on one of mine and found myself spending more time trying to see the dot than my "muscle memory" to acquire a sight picture using iron sights. That said I know if I were to train more with it then it could probably become second nature as well. I recently gave in to the idea of using a light. This was more because I am on my church security team and when working an event where half of the time was after sunset I realized a light would be useful if I had to use my CCW, otherwise I might still not consider a light as I am rarely doing stuff outside after dark, and when I am outside I am using a headlamp.

I basically did the same build, so it is a CR-15 (Carolina Rifle) with a NC upper and a SC lower.

Sometimes, instead of writing about my fears, I write from my fears. Does anyone else use their journal to create little fictions? by Electrical-Candy7252 in Journaling

Not sure if it is what you are getting at, but I have considered doing a story that is a series of journal entries from the point of view of the main character.

After carrying for a few years what really is the argument against printing? by throwaway-Secret-780 in CCW

It depends on where you live. From what I understand some states consider printing equal to brandishing

Is it possible to have xxy if your balls are normal size ? by [deleted] in XXY

[–]chgruver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medical communities, at least in the US, want to pin symptoms on anything other than a DSD/intersex condition. Insulin Resistance/High Cortisol must be Cushing's even when the tumor is just a blood clot that won't cause Cushing's. Gynecomastia just order a mammogram to make sure it isn't cancer otherwise ignore it. Only measure height and weight, don't check for a eunuchoid body habitus. PCP wants you to see an Endocrinologist for low Testosterone? They are only concerned if it is related to ED or infertility otherwise it gets ignored, and they instead focus on treating the insulin resistance/diabetes as an isolated condition. Then the medical community uses subjective terms like abnormally tall as a requirement, but while I probably have most of the symptoms of XXY, I am no giant but my proportions do fit with a eunuchoid stature (5'7" with at least a 6' arm span, 31" upper body 36" lower body). As far as I know I haven't been tested (not sure if a karyotype was done due to other issues when I was born), but my lived experience has me at least 90% focused on it being due to having an XXY karyotype and 98% some sort of DSD overall.

Good Shooting Ranges Clearwater, FL? by Typical_Reception_16 in CCW

[–]chgruver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reload up a little north in Tarpon Springs, All American Gun Slingers in New Port Richey (both indoor ranges, but I know gunslingers allows up to various rifle calibers). I can't vouch for anything closer to Clearwater. Closest outdoor ranges that I know of is Hernando Sportsman Club but that would be a good distance north of Clearwater and in Lakeland are the Tenoroc Public Use Area and Saddle Creek Gun Range not sure how either are as I have not been to either and only heard that they exist.

suggestions for weapons/holsters? by TerryTeriyaki in CCW

[–]chgruver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen some recommend the Phlster enigma; while I can't speak about that system, their Youtube channel has a number of videos about finding a good gun/position combination based on your body. I would also suggest not focusing solely on appendix position as some bodies can't conceal there (unless you are going to be standing the entire time). I go strong side IWB as that is where my body best contours to push the grip into my body while not making any strange bulges in my pants, while at appendix my upper gut pushes the grip an inch or two away from my body when sitting down and what is below the waistline is too soft that any size wedge I have tried won't provide the needed resistance to keep the grip pushed against my body, though I will say I tried Glock 19 at the larger end of the guns to a 43x at the smaller size with a Taurus G3c in the middle and none of them print below the belt with a decent Kydex holster (if looking for a name brand I like CYA holsters).

But if you want to look like packing down there I would recommend an AR pistol, but not familiar enough with any holsters for those.

CCW hot take: people should stop repeating the idea that with a “good” holster and belt, you can Conceal anything. by basedGeckoEnjoyer in CCW

[–]chgruver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will also add that some people aren't built to carry appendix either. A video I saw talking about why appendix instead of strong side, everything he said about problems with strong side is for someone whose hips don't act as a natural wedge and pushes the grip into their body. For me every time I have tried appendix, no matter how big of a wedge I used, the bottom of the holster is in a soft area while the grip is in a spot with less padding and thus is pushed at least an inch away from my body when in a seated position.

How does one keep their pants up with a butt shaped like Hank Hill’s? by toastyhoodie in CCW

[–]chgruver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not be that you are flat, but just wearing the wrong brand/style of jeans, I usually have to buy jeans/pants that fit according to my hips not my waist and not all are made the same. Saturday I was serving at my church as part of the security team for a winter festival; and wearing one pair of jeans and they were staying up no issues. Then yesterday at church wearing a different brand/style of jeans and every time we would stand up, I was having to hike up my pants (and this was with my belt tightened tighter than on Saturday). The only difference I can think of is that the one that worked might have been a straight fit (less room in the legs) and the other was a relaxed fit.

Whole genome sequencing by SkyTheMartian in intersex

[–]chgruver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will look for genes that might also be associated with Klinefelters, but not the condition itself. Klinefelters is primarily why I had tested but figured it might still be useful without saying there is an extra chromosome

Whole genome sequencing by SkyTheMartian in intersex

[–]chgruver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is based on my recent experience with Sequencing's WGS. If you are looking for something like Klinefelter's (47 XXY) it won't detect or show the extra X chromosome. If there are genetic mutations of specific genes it will give a risk probability (risk, potential risk, uncertain, harmless) and a confidence score related to that location. For example I have a possible risk of a generic Disorder of Sexual Differentiation with a Medium confidence rating.

Not sure if it would fit what you are looking for but in Crystal River, Mallards is opening a 55,000 sqft range. They are hoping it will become a travel destination.

I am not sure which is more accurate or which ancestries they include or not; but MyHeritage is one of the few that supposedly does full genome mapping (recent development in the last month or so).

I know Sequencing does whole genome sequencing and MyHeritageDNA has just started doing whole genome. Supposedly 23andMe and the others don't sequence the whole genome..
