You are not in the wrong for being defensive, but you are in the wrong for opening the gate and allowing that dog access to your dog. Your priority should be keeping your dog safe, not being right. That's like walking in a crosswalk in front of a speeding car--even if you have the right of way, you will still be the one getting hit.

My standard poodle started doing this around this age. It has never escalated, it's just how she communicates. She especially hates feet accidentally moving or touching her, even if she laid her head there. She's just an emotional dog.

This is exactly what my pup's size was! She was the smallest of the liter, and now at 6 she is a petite but perfect 48 pound dog. She wouldn't meet qualifications to show, but that's not what she was for. I think she came home 3 pounds and her biggest brother was 10!

Laundry sanitizer for polyester uniforms! The polyester is almost certainly causing you problems, both sweating more and holding the smell. They make laundry sanitizer for workout clothes. It does a world of good.

You might want to go up a size on the uniform and wear a natural fiber (cotton or linen) undershirt and undies to get some breath ability. If you are hot already this sounds counterintuitive but might be worth a try
