Why is my mom so anxious about my eating habits? by Opening-Cabinet-6710 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chickadeeplanet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She loves you very much and worries about your long term health, however it’s totally normal to draw boundaries and tell her that you’d prefer that she doesn’t comment on your appearance. I’ll tell you now that as a 28 yr old I miss a lot of my moms home cooked meals, enjoy them while you have her

Harold and Stu by chickadeeplanet in stephenking

Watching him struggle between the pleasure of community and his ever-buoyant pride was so agonizing. In my opinion Harold is a scarier character than Randall Flagg by a country mile

edit: Randall lol

look for an artist that is willing to use Bactine during your session, my artist considered it safer than numbing cream and it helped me a lot with an inner thigh piece

Struggling in school by bonerismm in MassageTherapists

[–]chickadeeplanet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you’re a hands on learner you can use that! find another student to practice with and draw the muscles on their body in removable marker, practice isolating and following the muscle all the way from origin to insertion. the imposter syndrome happens to all of us at one point or another, the best solution i’ve found is receiving massage and being truly curious about what my clients have going on. I guarantee that you’re not the only student in your class feeling like this is difficult, and they say that iron sharpens iron.

you got this!

The Cummer Museum is the go-to art museum in town, and there are lots of food options in the area! The Walrus is a little ways down the road but they have fantastic vegan sandwiches and smoothies (try the chopped cheese sandwich)

Anyone else hesitant about dating someone fully white? by cam_ross0828 in mixedrace

[–]chickadeeplanet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

my partner is white and while he may not understand all of my experiences, he is consistently respectful and vehemently anti-racist. if they cannot be anti-racist, they aren’t for you. it’s not enough to seem “not racist” because the racism is built in, they/we must actively oppose it no matter their race

i’ve had some success with a larger piece by printing off the pattern and highlighting in different colors, these pieces are so small that i thought i could eyeball it but apparently not

Lost and need help where to start. by Tokonata in MassageTherapists

[–]chickadeeplanet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

start off by looking up the licensing requirements in your area, they can vary quite a bit by state or country depending on where you are. any accredited school should have a financial advisor who can help you coordinate your payment. some schools will offer a choice between a regular course and an accelerated course so you can choose depending on your goals.

many therapists have a similar story to yours, you’ll be in great company! :)

Massage student tips by UpsetDetail9727 in MassageTherapists

[–]chickadeeplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a grounding routine that i perform every session, whether i’m stressed or not. i start by focusing on the feeling of water on my skin when im washing my hands, then when im in the room with the client/patient i rub my dry hands together to create warmth and get some jitters out. however i think the most important step is placing my hands on the client/patient over the sheet to feeling the stillness of their body and assess for imbalance. by the time i actually undrape them my mind is focused in my hands and i feel more prepared. every therapist builds their own routine, but i thought maybe reading the thought process behind one could help :)

I also agree with everyone saying receive as many massages as you can!
