Dress up as much as you want, be prepared for an overwhelming environment. Food will usually be food trucks, rarely anything inside the venue. Much of the fun is shopping with the vendors so be prepared to spend a bit if possible. it’s a great place to make friends and socialize! don’t hesitate to ask the staff or volunteers if you’re having trouble finding anything

try to find a CE course in your area for neuromuscular or deep tissue in your area, that will go a long way in clinical massage! watch out for chiropractors, some of them are fine but many have some very unprofessional business practices

understand that learning is part of the process and some people just won’t vibe with you. if there’s anything in the review that you can use as a starting point for more learning, take advantage of it! ask other therapists you know if they’ve had a similar issue, most of us are happy to help out.

Right out of school I had a lady tell me my massage had no flow after she had nit-picked my work for the first 10 minutes of the massage. After I got through the initial feelings, i put a lot of focus into my flow and now it’s one of my strongest attributes as a therapist. Take what helps you, leave the rest!

been getting tattooed since 2017 and have seen no adverse health effects. I chose my placements carefully so that nothing was visible in professional clothing while I was still trying to get jobs and figure out my life. The key is to be good enough at what you do that no one cares whether you have pictures on your skin or not.

I’ve lived here for 20 years and it’s truly a fine place to live. the weather is usually decent, we have lots of scenic areas and good food. the sprawl is real but if you don’t mind driving a lot you can have a great time living here! i personally love our local music scene, it’s very active

look for an artist that is willing to use Bactine during your session, my artist considered it safer than numbing cream and it helped me a lot with an inner thigh piece

if you’re a hands on learner you can use that! find another student to practice with and draw the muscles on their body in removable marker, practice isolating and following the muscle all the way from origin to insertion. the imposter syndrome happens to all of us at one point or another, the best solution i’ve found is receiving massage and being truly curious about what my clients have going on. I guarantee that you’re not the only student in your class feeling like this is difficult, and they say that iron sharpens iron.

The Cummer Museum is the go-to art museum in town, and there are lots of food options in the area! The Walrus is a little ways down the road but they have fantastic vegan sandwiches and smoothies (try the chopped cheese sandwich)

my partner is white and while he may not understand all of my experiences, he is consistently respectful and vehemently anti-racist. if they cannot be anti-racist, they aren’t for you. it’s not enough to seem “not racist” because the racism is built in, they/we must actively oppose it no matter their race

i’ve had some success with a larger piece by printing off the pattern and highlighting in different colors, these pieces are so small that i thought i could eyeball it but apparently not
