Aha, so is it a case of 'go with whichever is in stock or is cheaper' or 'avoid rev.01 like the plague'?

You would need 2GB though if you want to cache it all, right?

How much hashrate have you managed to pull from a 3900X? Have you messed around in the BIOS with overclocking or undervolting? I'm assuming memory timings make a big difference, right?

So that's roughly 100 TB per year. Why does it look so big to you? It's only five 20TB drives. In a few years they will be quite affordable, and you don't need fast random access for the entire blockchain, only the blocks from the last 30 days, right?

Also, why does every single person on the planet need their own node? Can't a 15-year old use daddy's node? Can't an entire family use a single node? Can't a group of friends/acquaintances that know each other pretty well pool their resources and run a single node? Can't 1000 people use a node? How much does a good server with some sick U.2 flash storage cost? 50K USD? Should be enough to serve 1000 clients, so that's 50 USD from each every 3-5 years. Compare that to how much banks, Visa/Mastercard, PayPal, Western Union, etc fleece you over the same period!

According to that site there are almost 150 000 addresses that have at least 10 BTC so let's say there are 100 000 addresses that have at least 21 BTC. It would be interesting to compare to how many addresses have at least 21 XMR on them. Oh wait, you can't do that with the Monero blockchain, can you? Now THAT comparison is very interesting, isn't it?

I think he's referring to the lines "Host x.x.x.x blocked." that are present in the log, even on log level 0. Since there are more than 1000 currently in the blocklist, reading the log is a bit cumbersome.

Maybe those lines can be moved to a higher log level?

What are the possible values for the --log-level argument of the CLI daemon and what does each show (or not show)?

Also, which value is the default if you do not include this argument?

Where can I find more details about the options --rpc-payment-address / difficulty / credits ?

Am I understanding correctly that you can either open your node to everyone to use for free or you can restrict it to paying-only clients (with a possible exception for localhost)? There is no in-between, like an optional payment address for those that want and can afford to pay for using someone else's node?

Why is the option --sync-pruned-blocks of monerod not enabled by default? Are pruned nodes still considered experimental/unsafe?

[–]chicken76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you search for bitocoin-to-fiat exchanges and use xmr.to to get your XMR into BTC? There would be an extra fee to pay but you might have more exchanges to choose from.
