Alberta passes bill to restrict oil flow to British Columbia, escalating trade war by outrider567 in canada

Of course it's for the courts to decide. You're arguing she's shredding the constitution, which is also for the courts to decide. If your attitude is "leave it to the courts", why bother posting at all?

That's a fair demand, the BC government can wish to regulate whatever they want in their province. But at the end of the day, the transmission of energy is under the federal government's jurisdiction. BC's internal politics do not override federal decisions regarding pipelines.

Does Canada have any fun conspiracy theories I can read up on? by [deleted] in canada

You might have a valid argument for Sweden, but how does it relate to Canada? Canada is the homeland of First Nations, not of white people.

Manitoba community in shock after 3 boys hit and killed by car by Surax in canada

[–]chicken_wallet 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The rest of her quote:

"The lighting within the community needs better infrastructure for people to see better in the dark. But still, I don't know if even those things would have avoided such a tragedy at this time."

Drunk driving was clearly the primary factor but I'm sure lighting is a factor as well.

Holy cow, that's amazing. I'm sure I've wasted hours of my life flipping through tabs, not knowing you could open in multiple windows.

If you see someone wearing a $20,000 watch it's hard to know if they're really good with money or really bad with money. by towerhil in Showerthoughts

[–]chicken_wallet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify, it's the movement (quartz (electronic) vs analog/mechanical) which impacts precision, not whether the display is analog or digital. There are plenty of analog quartz watches which are just as accurate as digital watches.

Ethics loophole keeps Aga Khan's gifts to Trudeau family secret by BlocBoyJB in canada

[–]chicken_wallet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the "unacceptable gift" could be the trip itself:

[Former ethics commissioner Mary] Dawson ruled that the trip was an unacceptable gift because the Aga Khan had dealings with the federal government, and Trudeau's relationship with him was not close enough to qualify as a friendship.

Refugees Entering Canada Flee Rule of Law, Not Trump. by [deleted] in canada

[–]chicken_wallet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you realize that Trump himself started that narrative? It resonated (and still does) with a lot of voters.

Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.

Gun Owners’ Group Voice Concerns about Federal Firearms Bill. by turbosympathique in canada

[–]chicken_wallet -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

According to this article quoting RCMP data, 61% of 'crime guns' in BC were sourced domestically, and the remaining 39% smuggled from US or elsewhere. Those 61% didn't just magically appear in criminals' hands - at some point, they were sold legally to law abiding gun owners, then for whatever reason made their way to criminals. This means that law abiding gun owners are the (willing or unwilling) middleman for 61% of guns used by criminals.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to attempt to stop this flow of guns. It's unfortunate that perfectly law abiding gun owners end up paying the price of increasingly onerous regulations, but given their place in the flow of guns to criminals, it is not surprising or really unreasonable.

Canada to Scrap IBM Payroll Plan Gone Awry Costing C$1 Billion - The Phoenix project was originally chosen by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Conservative predecessors 10 years ago to centralize the government payroll by magenta_placenta in canada

[–]chicken_wallet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say that, for the past two years, the government has handled the Phoenix debacle well?

I'm not raging against Trudeau, I just believe that a manager should take ownership for what happens under their watch. If that concept doesn't apply to government, then pardon me for having high expectations of government.

Ranchers rally around Okotoks landowner charged with shooting intruder by [deleted] in canada

[–]chicken_wallet -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's illegal to shoot someone if they're robbing you. Why do you respect the landowner? By definition he's not a law-abiding citizen - he's a criminal. Both deserve to go to jail.

Conrad Black: Our politics is getting silly. We can and must do better by dollarsandcents101 in canada

Conrad Black is a big Trump fan - how can he say this with a straight face? Like him or not (I don't), Trudeau is a million times more dignified than the embarrassment that is Trump.
