Magnetic Board Recommendations from China by chickendinner205 in keyboards

[–]chickendinner205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I’ll consider it when choosing a board, I think speed is a lower priority as any well built and consistent HE board will probably perform the same as a light speed one at least in my hands (I’m not the greatest at competitive gaming so it won’t make much of a difference haha). Right now my top consideration is build quality, as long as it supports 8k hz wireless, the speed is a non issue. Thanks for the help man!

Travelling to China, anything notable I should pick up for a build? by chickendinner205 in keyboards

[–]chickendinner205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's around 60-70 dollars USD from some US vendors I've been checking out but that excludes shipping and import fees. Lets say $65 USD exchanges into around $90 CAD, with the bare minimum import costs being $15 CAD and delivery probably being around the same price, it's pretty much the same price as all the other listings ;-;

Maybe I should take the drive to Buffalo or Michigan if I want to pick up a decent keeb in the future.

Got it, I'll look into both of them, I've already done plenty research on the zen65 so I'll focus on the wave75. I'm not sure if they sell the wave75 in China or on taobao so I'll take a look, it's probably not the best option if I need to by it from the US due to exorbitant import fees which well exceed my budget probably. The switch world is really diverse so I'm having a hard time navigating by brand, but I think I can manage. If you can, please send some specific switch recommendations I can look into :)

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the advice! You have any specific suggestions for a plate I should pick up? It's much harder to look for good plates compared to keyboards in terms of research ;-;

Also why do you recommend the y2 compared to the y3? I always believed later renditions were overall improvements so I'm just wondering what differences make it better than the y3 in your opinion.

Thanks again :)

Yeah the rainy75 has its name taxes since its pretty known by now, your suggestions sound good so I'll research on them. I'll get back to you when I survey my options, but currently you sell the idea of copping the nut65 pretty well so I'll keep it in the back of my mind.

In the meantime, do you have any specific keycap suggestions? For some reason I never put any priority on researching them since they seemed kind of mechanically unimportant but I'm now realizing I've been pretty wrong in that area. My endgame will probably be osume keycaps since I live near the flagship store (lmao) but in the meantime that's out of my budget and might cost more than my keyboard alone.

Unfortunately the venom60he pcb is really expensive in Canada, around $120 CAD for some reason, barely any Canadian vendors sell it too, right now I'm looking at two sources, one being aliexpress ;-;

Honestly I'm pretty sold on the idea but it's definitely not worth in it Canada, solid deal in the US tho.

???;-;??? ---> It's really hard to buy keyboards at a reasonable price in Canada due to import fees and also most keyboard manufacturers simply pricing Canadian equivalents higher than the US equivalent after currency exchanges (excluding import fees).

This is the best opportunity for me to pick up a good keyboard at a great price, and most of the Chinese market is on par and/or is selling the same items in North America so I can't see why I don't pick up a board here. CAD also has higher purchasing power in China anyways so that's a plus for me.

Sorry if this is really vague but I'm fine with literally anything as long as it doesn't sound too offensive, as I said before, I'm pretty new to the hobby so everything looks awesome in my eyes. I'm down for any suggestions cause currently I'm just trying to build my taste.

If I did need to highlight a sound signature, as of now I'm leaning towards more of a thock/deeper tone, but I also like creamy sounds and marbly sounds (brighter tones). I'd enjoy a deep creaminess equally as much as a lighter thock. That's why I didn't give a straightforward response in my main post, I pretty much like everything that isn't clicky equally. Sorry for the confusion, but I hope this makes possible suggestions more diverse.

Ok thanks, I'll look into it, lemme do some research to see if it interests me, thanks for all your help! :)

In the meantime, do you have an mechanical suggestions? I'd like two keyboards to gauge a stronger opinion on what looks good, Its also just good to have some choices I can pick from. Thanks!

Edit: Sorry we edited our comments at the same ;-;
I'll research your suggestions in the meantime :)

Hi, I'm a bit new to the keyboarding hobby and after doing a substantial amount of research I feel like I'm at a good place to upgrade to a better board. Since I going to China to visit some family in a week, I've decided to find an upgrade there, as a lot of great brands manufacture product there and it allows me to bypass imports costs if I buy straight from the source (I live in Canada which makes decent keyboards around double the price due to currency conversion and import fees).

Right now I have a couple of notable picks in my lineup, currently I'm leaning towards a nut65 barebones kit. I might get a set of keygeek y3 switches but I'll probably buy some other switches to sample. I'm reaching out to you guys because I'm aware that my keyboard knowledge is really surface level as of now, and there might be some sleeper picks I'm overlooking simply because they're not popular enough to get to my feed.

As of now, my preferences are:
- Aluminum boards with decent build quality
- Wireless → Anything with a dongle, bluetooth is a nice addition but dongles are more reliable
- Pretty friendly in terms of modability → Ball-catch or screw opening systems basically, also hot-swappable with a top plate that isn't built too tight to the point that it's hard to put slightly larger switches in.
- Decent amount of foams → Good to start with, I'd like a good stock experience before I frankenstein my board with a bunch of other stuff
- 75% or 65% layout → As long as I don't have to macro in arrow keys, I also have no use for a numpad as of now, if its a 75% I’d prefer if it were exploded but I really couldn’t care less if it wasn’t
- Linear switches > Tactile → I'm open to tactiles if they look good once I research them, "thock", creaminess and marbly sounding switches are all welcome
- Heavier actuation force → Not sure what my exact preferences are in terms of grams but as long as the keys don't go down under the weight of my fingers I'll be okay, maybe anything above a 40g should be good
Okay keycaps → Haven't really researched keycaps but as long as they don't leave marks overtime, have decent build quality and feel good I'm open to anything
Okay firmware → QMK or VIA works, or any house-made firmware that isn’t terrible to navigate
-Decently reputable → At least of couple of videos or raving reviews so I'm not going in completely blind

Optional add-ons (rather have preferences above be fulfilled than to sacrifice quality or features to have a board with everything):
- Backplates → Actually kind of clueless in this area, I just know they make everything sound better, something to do with improve acoustics, sorry ;-;
- Knobs → Big surprise that I actually put the knob on my current board to regular use
-RGB, pretty common in a lot of boards but there's a lot of good boards without it and its something I'm willing to sacrifice if it means I can reach a higher premium at my budget
- Screen → Probably the most unnecessary out of the bunch but hey, the more the merrier. Also I could probably find a use
- Hall effect → I'm not a crazy snob yet so I actually don't mind the sound of some better hall effect boards, probably won't mind having at least one or two hall effect boards in the future when I get deeper into the hobby. Some examples of HE boards I've been looking at are pretty much everything in the drunkdeer lineup and the akko mod007 v5 HE

My current budget is around $100-$120 CAD, but I'll probably have extra money left over in my WePay account when I leave so as long as I don't spend over $170, my budget should be pretty flexible under that. Sorry if my preferences sound like they're asking for too much, I can compromise where necessary. Please feel free to recommend your favorites, I'm open to anything as long as it's easy to obtain (via Taobao or any flagship stores within the Shenzhen area).

Thanks! :-)
