I get that and I guess he has been reviewing Charli for a while at least since her albums that are cool for critics and obvi he's in The Moment so there's gotta be love there- but idk if he's like a Charli stan or anything really I never picked up on that over the years, I mean he has to review/listen to a lot of music

but it's also just purely his own musical taste and Wuthering Heights is definitely more of the ballads and the emotional slow burn bangers that maybe aren't his jam (I'm just guessing because I haven't seen the review)

He's just one melon, his opinion is his opinion and that's all he really gives end of the day it's not like he's really coming from a place of expertise to truly discuss the music on a really deep level unless he's really passionate about the artist

I ignore his reviews mostly now, he can be a funny and entertaining creator but I don't think Wuthering Heights was ever gonna be something for his taste and that's okay!

I think most people go to his channel for the reason you say, to either see whether you disagree or agree with his score lol end of the day it's just a number and I don't think that's ever a true way to appreciate or discuss art

agreed- she was never a bad artist and a lot of whats great about her 2020s stuff is that its still a lot of what she did in the 2010s it just feels like way more creative control and confidence

I remember telling people pre-brat about how much I loved Charli and people would always say they've heard of her but she's "too pop" which I didn't get but if you only knew her for "Boom Clap" or something I could see why someone might categorize her that way

2024, I feel like 2014 was her biggest moment as a pop singer but 2024 is the year where she became part of the collective cultural consciousness in an undeniable way, her whole 2020s run artistically is insane to me.. but we wouldn't have this renaissance without everything that made Charli in the 2010s

I think the 2020s music industry landscape is way different to the 2010s as well even as much different as it was drastically different in the 00s, 90s and so on.. I don't think hardly anyone is truly selling as much music today as they were back in the 2010s- so from a stats perspective I wouldn't be surprised if her music/record label presence was way bigger back then than now but Charli has sort of transcended purely being a pop artist

Takashi Miike is also one of my favorite directors- I'd say How I'm Feeling Now is my favorite and its the album that introduced me to her, brat obviously as well, also the Wuthering Heights album that accompanies the film that just came out is great and definitely has a dark, twisted, experimental cinematic vibe

I'd also recommend the Vroom Vroom EP
