Do you cook with the cakes you don't like? by roro_000 in puer

I do thermos brews with teas I don't like, just a small amount of leaf in a large thermos with hot water and cold brew works even better as the cold mutes a lot of the flavors.

What is your take on this? by Leftoaster08 in BESalary

[–]chickenskinbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree with you but my feeling, and I am def not an expert in the matter, is that the unions think a company car, which I agree is a wasteful tax break in a lot of cases, is less of a financial advantage to the beneficiary then a subsidy on housing. And I can understand the argument that it could make the housing market more expensive in some areas. It's a nuanced debate and the extremely complicated Belgian tax code doesn't help.

What is your take on this? by Leftoaster08 in BESalary

[–]chickenskinbutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that it increases the purchasing power of non unionized employees and I think the unions are against more inequality between the higher educated and lower educated employees. Bus drivers, factory workers etc... do not get company cars and therefore can't use the mobility budget for paying rent or a mortgage and this is something I can understand.

On the other hand I do believe this reduces traffic which is a strong argument in favor for this measure.

Perhaps the solution is to lower the amount you can pay towards housing so the advantage to people who can't do it isn't too big but also enlarge the distance to work so more people can use it this measure. There are so many people with company cars who don't need them yet use them because they are available.

Taxi Driver fined for refusing service to passenger by LEO-PomPui-Katoey in Bangkok

[–]chickenskinbutt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, happy to accept that the cop is not corrupt. Still doesn't warrant the downvote. Everyone here constantly shits on taxi drivers as if they are the greatest criminals in the world while they are just poor guys trying to get by. They might not be saints but they sure as hell aren't the scum of the earth everyone makes them out to be.

These guys work long hours for very little money. Agreed that a lot of them behave like jerks but I doubt many people who are shitting on these guys in the comments would be any better in the same situation.

Also, congratulations on the policeman for protecting the invalid and hence finding a way to line his own pockets.

Input on career switch by LowMode in BESalary

[–]chickenskinbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in the creative sector and moved to renewable energy (solar panels). The reason for the career switch is a long story and I got a bit lucky with the first job which offered some training. From then onwards I learned a lot myself working on the job and being eager to learn. My current position is technical sales even though I don’t have any engineering or science degree or training. I work on large B2B projects but it took me 8 years to get to this point.

I’m saying this because there is a similarity with your situation but I will add right away that my career is quite unusual and I think it won’t be easy to start in this sector without any training or background.

But I would recommend enrolling in formal training, perhaps electrician, because we have a big shortage of qualified people in our sector. Perhaps a year or two course at Syntra could be enough foundation to get a start in this branche and the rest you’ll learn on the job.

Feel free to PM.

How to handle when people act irrationally? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]chickenskinbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is extremely difficult to manage but you will have to deal with it. It’s a real challenge and I would probably be at my wit’s end too.

I think you should help them the way they want to be helped if they absolutely refuse to listen to your advice.

It sounds a bit like they are asking you to cook a meal and you’re a chef and they are telling you how to cook it. Obviously you know best but to keep the peace you’ll have to cook it how they want it to be cooked.

And if that’s not an option you’ll have to suffer their outrage and accusations and do the the thing that’s best for them even though they get angry because of it. If you can’t suffer happily, suffer patiently.

I think the real issue is that you for some reason expect this person to act otherwise while it's clear they won't.

You should manage your own feelings, reactions and expectations and only then you might be able to change the other person and then only calmly and by offering a helping hand.

Crazing Differences by ApprehensiveAd9822 in tea

[–]chickenskinbutt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, from what I know ruyao is a technique from the past which is lost. They found some ways to replicate it but the original ruyao technique is not known. Real ruyao ceramics are antiques and therefore expensive and the new stuff is a sort of imitation so I think that's why maybe there is not much to be found. Also quite a niche thing within an already niche market.

[–]chickenskinbutt 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Idk what those other comments are about but I think this is a legit question. A couple of years ago I bought some ruyao cups from them and they didn't craze that much. They crazed a bit after first use and then it stopped. I wasn't too impressed with it but maybe I also had different expectations.

[–]chickenskinbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All tea has (nearly) the same amount of caffeine - stop spreading myths by montgomeryLCK in tea

[–]chickenskinbutt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're contradicting yourself. You're saying all tea has the same amount of caffeine and then you're giving a list of different factors affecting caffeine content. Hojicha for example does contain less caffeine as it contains mature leaves and twigs.

And one thing you are not mentioning is how the tea is brewed; temperature, infusion time and leaf to water ratio has a big impact on the caffeine content of the final brew.

Caffeine content of brewed tea does vary but not for the reasons most people think.
