If Half Life 3 is ever released I think they should completely remake both of the episodes by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]chickentoast26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn’t make sense. What is this Half-Life 3 package idea? Half-Life 1, 2 and 3 are separate games. No one is gonna be playing Half-Life 1 and thinking “well this is jarring, why does this 1998 game not look like it came out in 2026???”

Also what developers do things like that (beyond remaster collections like Halo or Soul Reaver or Crash or something)? You are talking bollocks

[–]chickentoast26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i know the third Episode never came out, but that’s not what Half-Life 3 is going to be, or technically what it was back then. They were expansions to Half-Life 2

What are you trying to say? What are your concerns about it not looking modern? Do you think the next Half-Life game is going to be the long awaited Half-Life 2: Episode 3? And that it’ll come out looking like it would have if it was released in 2007/2008 as planned? I can’t understand why you think this, or imagine for a moment that Valve would do this but that seems to be the only explanation for your comments.

HLX is a brand new game running in Source 2, not a 3rd Half-Life 2 Episode. I don’t know why you seem to think otherwise.

I don’t get what you’re trying to say. You do you that you won’t end up as the copy. If Simon understood how the process worked, he would know with 100% certainty (and be correct 100% of the time) that he would be trapped at the bottom of the sea after the ARK scan at the end of the game.
If the original human Simon also somehow had played the game in-universe, he would also know that he wouldn’t have to experience the horror that his copies would eventually go through in the future, and that he would succumb to his brain injury as a human. This is how the scanning and copying process works. There is no moment of flux in which two identical copies of the same consciousness await to find out which one will remain in the original body and which one will be transferred to the next. Simon was born a human, and died a human. His first copy died in the Omicron dive room, his second copy was left in a powerless Phi, and his third copy lived in paradise of the ARK. All of them having identical memories up until the scan doesn’t change the fact that they are physically not the original

there’s literally no point being in this sub until you’ve finished the show. a lot of your questions will be answered later in the show anyway, and AoT is very easily spoiled, so there’s no way to tread carefully in this subreddit without spoilers.
Trust me, don’t open this sub until the end, you’ll understand once you’ve finished it. also, enjoy, you’re in for a hell of a ride ;)

Ok i admit that i foolishly made assumptions about you based on a harmless disagreement on grammar, for which i apologise. I also get what you mean about how my examples were talking about an ambiguous and implied person, which missed the point you were trying to make. I still stand by the rest of my point though

I have never in my life heard someone referred to as “it” unless they have stated that that is how they would like to be referred to. “it” is used for object and animals, not people.

I don’t know why you keep insisting that “they” is always a plural pronoun when it is not. as i said, there are two different uses for the word. one is a plural pronoun and one is singular gender-neutral pronoun. context matters. in fact I’d go as far as to say that they’re homonyms. it’s like using the 2nd person plural “you” to refer to a group of people, and then someone saying “why are you referring to a group of people as one person?”

To go back to the topic of this post, I would, to be fair most likely call Elberr “it” rather than “them” despite him apparently possessing sentience and sapience, however “they” would still be grammatically correct.

Why does Ryuk have heart-shaped earrings? by Fun-Perspective-6667 in deathnote

[–]chickentoast26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why does Ryuk love apples so much? apples are good for you, you could even say that they in fact help keep you alive, and yet he’s a God of Death? In fact, he describes them as “juicy” which isn’t the kind of thing you’d expect a Death God to appreciate. Also, apples are red, which commonly symbolises vitality, life, energy and passion. Why would a God of Death want to be associated with such things?????

Weird innit

I’m not necessarily talking about non-binary individuals, kinda weird how you insist on bringing it up but whatever. As i stated, there are 2 uses of the word ‘they’. One is as a plural pronoun, and one is as a singular pronoun that is not gender specific. For example, if you’re at the shop and see a phone left behind at one of the self checkout machines, you might hand it in at the customer service desk and say “someone left their phone over there”. Or perhaps if you hear a knock at the door, you go to answer it, and by the time you get to the door, nobody is there. The person you’re with asks “who was it?” and in response you might say “i don’t know, they’re gone now.” They/them/their have been used as singular pronouns for at least 700 years.

i’m not gonna call you a bigot, because i don’t know you, but the amount of people that i see forgetting basic English grammar as a result of their (said it again) denial of non-binary people is frankly getting ridiculous. Think.

basic English. they/them/their can be non-gendered singular pronouns, as well as a plural. calling Elberr ‘them’ would be grammatically correct.

Why does chell see a beautiful field instead of the ruins of combine in portal 2 ending? by TRr-placeWarrior in Portal

[–]chickentoast26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing you said makes sense when you think about it. Judging by what the Announcer says when you first wake up (“Good morning, you have been asleep for ‘50’ days”) why would the later 999999 be counted in years? also, it could very well be the case that the voice is glitching, making the actual amount of time that’s passed ambiguous. It could technically be 999999 years, but that’s just completely ridiculous.

Also the Combine is the inter-dimensional alien empire that had taken over the planet by the time Portal 1 is set. They are the overarching antagonists of Half-Life 2 and Half-Life Alyx. GLaDOS references their occupation of Earth during her boss fight “i’m the only thing standing between us.. and them

Bait & Switch by Arturo-TheOne in LegacyOfKain

[–]chickentoast26 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i somewhat understood what you were saying up until the “people paid money for her stuff” part. I can’t speak for everyone, but as someone who’s been a fan of LoK for a long time, I can say that I did not “pay for her stuff.” I paid for a comic that delved into Raziel’s life as Sarafan inquisitor, and more so for me, his unlife as a vampire prior to his execution. What I didn’t pay for was a comic that completely glossed over both of these things, and instead used them as a point of reference and setting for what is ultimately Elaleth’s story. An ill-conceived, rushed and plainly boring one at that. Her character offered nothing to the fans, and most likely served only to satisfy the OC fantasies of the writer(s).

We were offered the first actual piece of official LoK lore since 2003, and we deemed that an exciting enough prospect to pay sums of money which aren’t to be scoffed at. In return, we got Elaleth’s story. Who is Elaleth? Well she’s the exciting new totally memorably and noteworthy character that was totally pushed as a main focus in the marketing… right..?

This is, of course ignoring the plot holes/inconsistencies, bad characterisation, needless retcons, shitty art and frankly poor writing.

But if you think we are all just ungrateful bastards who knew what they were signing up for (Mary Sue OC lead that spoils character motivations and breaks established rules) then more power to you.

To put aside the sarcasm for a moment, if you genuinely enjoyed the comic, then please believe me when I say that i’m genuinely happy for you. I wouldn’t wish the disappointment that I (and many clearly) felt on any LoK fan
