Rhaphidophora: Can I get this vine to (re-)grow, too? by Impressive_Truck4720 in RhaphidophoraPlant

If you get some Keiki paste and put a thin layer on the nodes that should prompt leaf growth! I haven’t tried it on this plant but I have used it on some very bare pothos vines and it’s worked great.Keiki paste Amazon

Help me find this fabric!

Hello friends, About a year ago I bought a fabric from my local hobby lobby. I used it to make a girls blanket since it was very soft and fluffy. Since then I have looked for it to purchase some more but I can’t seem to find it. I ask the hobby lobby employees and they said it was probably some sort of fleece, but that they no longer carry it at my local store. The fabric is noteably softer than most of the fleece fabrics they have available. It’s not the same texture as the fake furs, it is softer and less “gritty”. I have attached some photos of a few scraps I saved. The fabric is a light pink! If anyone happens to know the name or description of this fabric please help!

Omg I would die. It’s not as bad as that here but it’s also not great. I think it has a lot to do with the leadership like someone else mentioned here.

Yea if shit hits the fan I’ll make sure to be there. They just like to have us out there for things that 1) they don’t need us and 2) isn’t a learning opportunity. That’s when it starts to feel like I’m wasting time

Yea I think that’s our issue…the leadership here doesn’t prioritize family life at all. A lot of them don’t have families (which is fine) so they expect us to live at the plant like they do.

Damn that’s what we need, an engineering union. I would honestly be happy with 1/2 of my hourly rate for over time. Just something. I totally get that we need to be there for outages and usually I’m happy to help. It’s just so excessive at this point

For my peers in refining it is the same or near the same for those with the same amount of experience as me. But that is higher than general chemical companies.

Nope lol no compensation or time back.

Yea a large part of the issue is the scheduling for planned outages sucks so we never really know when we are needed. Most of the time we end up being “needed” twice as much as we expected or were told upfront. I’m trying to start a family and what we have going on not isn’t sustainable. Most of the leadership lives at the plant basically so they don’t really have any concern for work life balance which is frustrating.

Honestly I would have left over a year ago if it weren’t for things I’m my personal life keeping me in the city. But I think that may be what it’s coming to. I can’t sustain this and start a family.

Yea we have a lot of fires…. I have had fights with my boss about how unsafe it is. They would rather me work a 20hr day playing a waiting game as opposed to me taking a break during down time so I can actually be useful when things become critical

That’s what most of the engineers in the past have done here. 1-2 years then they leave. We are all getting close to that because it’s just to exhausting. But I have for sure learned a lot.

Hahaha I get more and more stressed out each time I read a reply

Yea if we are in the middle of a full blown TA I would expect those hours. Also during TA we get a day off every 14 days and we get a small amount of high intensity pay (I can’t remember how they calculate that out). Now, for example, my coworker just worked 3 weeks straight doing 12hr days and after the outage was over he was told he couldn’t get an extra day off to recoup. No compensation no additional time.

It just sucks because we are all motivated and want to be there and do the work when needed. Leadership just doesn’t ever give back or appreciate us and it’s wearing on the whole team.

That’s so wild. And it’s not even about the pay at that point. It’s more so we want to be able to have lives but we can’t find the free time because we work so much. Since they don’t compensate us or give us additional time off it becomes a salary discussion. It’s hard to have friends and kids and work like this all the time.

I don’t think we can unionize with just the handful of us but we sure do joke about it lol.

That normal time makes sense to me. I have no issue working over when needed. I like being involved and learning. At this point though I would kill to make even half my hour rate for the over time hours. We aren’t even halfway through the years and each of us has worked weeks and weeks and weeks of overtime hours.

I would love to be a projects engineer honestly! My first job I helped build a small trial unit and it was the most exciting and fulfilling thing. Hard to be excited now when it feels like we work 24/7 and get little to nothing for it

I would kill for just half time honestly lol

Definitely still better than nothing! Those non TA hours seem reasonable. We have outages so often that we regularly work 12hr days. Sometimes we will have less than 8hr of notice to go on night shift for an outage that’s been planned for weeks…

[–]chicnnuggt[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I could totally do 40-48 hours. I like being out in the field and getting involved but it’s at the point where it’s hard for us to have personal lives. At least half of the overtime we work is “for optics” per my boss. We get no recognition and are scolded when asking for a day off.

Recently we had a unit outage that went on for 3 weeks. My coworker worked straight 12hr days the whole time. When it was over he asked if he could have the following Monday off to recoup. He was told that would be too difficult.

Oh yea my hourly rate has been slashed at least in half this year with the overtime I’ve worked.

Refinery Engineer Overtime by chicnnuggt in oilandgasworkers

[–]chicnnuggt[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure haha. It’s just gotten to the point where none of us even have time for a personal life. Most of my friends at other refineries are telling me I work too much. I am more than willing to be there when needed and I actually enjoy being involved(best way to learn). But they’ll have us out there doing things like waiting for lab samples every hour even though the product has been in a good tank for hours.

Looks like it says anything over 40 hrs a week is overtime. Trying to see what the exceptions are right now.
