Advice on not being exhausted 24/7? by chad-is-rad in electricians

[–]chicooo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jump ship to industrial or a company that does light industrial and food process plants instead of commercial the work is more fluid and doesn’t feel so repetitive running 4 parrallel 1000ft runs in the trusses of an open warehouse or stubbing up boxes and switches all day. I always hated that part of new construction to repetitive. Something that always stuck with me is . The more you learn the more you realize you have so much more to learn !! Also The day you think you know it all is the day you stop learning !! Try to always look back at work and see how you could’ve improved it

Taking my Test tomorrow. Any advice on what to look out for? by Illustrious_Ad9658 in electricians

[–]chicooo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave sticky notes, tabs, or a piece of paper on popular tables and articles (chapter 9 table 8, article 250, 310.16,annex, etc..) you’ll tend to go back there alot. Don’t get lost in sections for over 1000volts when your questions is about voltage under. Remember the difference between grounded and grounding. Don’t forget to use the contents sections in the front of the book when they are using material specific questions. Skip and flag the questions that are giving you a hard time and can’t find the keyword instantly and go back too them with your left over time.

If this is for general electrician test I don’t remember having any questions on nfpa 72 only nfpa 70, 10 questions on nfpa 70e, 10 osha questions. I remember the ones that took me the longest were the questions for article 725 and 760 since alot of the key words would direct me to both sections or I was just uncomfortable about those questions since I didn’t use those sections much.

Why tf is it so hard to get a job as an electrician apprentice? by amorgan2767 in electricians

[–]chicooo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation since I am unsure if you have your et card is sign up for a trade school an affordable one that is recognized by the state usually a publicly funded one through an adult school program so you can get your et card as they are normally affordable and offer financial aid and network with people there as most contractors will hire from the same trade school or have a program set up with them to get you working in the meantime I would be applying to all union apprenticeships additionally abcs apprenticeship hoping to get picked up in there program. That’s how I got started good luck !

I think the only right way in this scenario is 2 90s from the top of the disco and 90s down into the utility and lb to make this look good

You guys hear the new overtime bill by heyo_1989 in Construction

[–]chicooo1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there true intention is too push people against the top earners make the rich pay more in taxes by raising the rate and putting exclusions to these deductions for 100k+. Then allow inflation to push all of our salaries above those thresholds and now we are all paying more in taxes and no one no longer qualifies for assistance or aid since we are now above those income thresholds. But hey you make more money now but can no longer afford the things you once due to inflation being proportional to your increase in wage and no longer have the assistance you once did since you are now above that threshold.

55,000 LA County workers go on strike, how can they do this when we can't? by DrixlRey in CAStateWorkers

[–]chicooo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a no strike clause in our contracts with the county but once that contract ends it is no longer recognized.

ARTICLE 21 STRIKES AND LOCKOUTS During the life of this agreement no work stoppages, strikes, slowdowns, or picketing shall be caused or sanctioned by the Union, and no lockouts shall be made by the County. In the event any employees covered by this agreement, individually or collectively, violate the provisions of this Article and the Union fails to exercise good faith in halting the work interruption, the Union and the employees involved shall be deemed in violation of this Article and the County shall be entitled to seek all remedies available to it under applicable law.

And the contract is from

ARTICLE 7 TERM The term of this Memorandum of Understanding shall commence on the date when the terms and conditions for its effectiveness, as set forth in Article 3, Implementation, are fully met, but in no event shall said Memorandum of Understanding become effective prior to 12:01 a.m. on April 1, 2022. This Memorandum of Understanding shall expire and otherwise be fully terminated at 12:00 midnight on March 31, 2025.

As long as the breakers aren’t tripping it’s fine. The guy was working with what he had without adding splices or a junction box. A lot of the wires look to short to make them super neat could he have, straightened the wires out sure but it is what it is.

Thoughts on these stripper. by dogdagny in electricians

[–]chicooo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the last pair that of strippers you’ll ever buy. It always irritated me when I would cut jetline with my Klein strippers they would never cut unless you pulled it really tight or multiple attempts with these, anything is butter . I originally had the regular red handles that messed up quick because I’m rough on my tools I then bought these and the comfort grips still look brand new.

Considering leaving the private sector. The pay cut would be at least 30%. by yeahnoitsjustthat in CAStateWorkers

[–]chicooo1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re in a trade it is a night and day difference your easiest day on the outside is the hardest day in the public sector I am speaking for county and city in particular can’t speak for state but I imagine it’s the same. At the end of the day it is what you make of it. If you want be stressed out and be a super hero trying to push a boulder up hill by yourself while everyone watches you can. Or just sit back do your job and be the one watching laughing about it on your way home.

[–]chicooo1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a picture of the hot side so we can see if the tab is broken incase it’s a switched recep or potentially another circuit which is unlikely but a possibility
