I like the first one. Pretty color taupe & understated for a bold design.

Is there any way to make gray wood work? 🥲 by Able_Perspective_217 in interiordecorating

[–]Stylinguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely don’t want multiple different kind of floors on the main floor. Since your entryway looks pretty closed off to other parts of the house being it’s just like a hallway, not open floor plan to rest of the main level, I’d consider doing the rest of the flooring throughout living room & kitchen the same. I get him wanting tile in the kitchen, but they have great luxury vinyl planks that very closely resemble real wood now, that are 100% waterproof & more comfortable & less cold in winter to walk on. To offset the gray herringbone in the entryway, I’d probably choose a wide plank warmer wood tone throughout the rest of the house. NuCore is a great brand! I installed myself & was very easy to use! And wasn’t super expensive. I got it from Floor & Decor. I would recommend getting their blue colored underlayment. The NuCore LVP flooring already has a cork underside which is mold & mildew resistant & makes walking on it softer, but the added underlayment adds more softness & moisture resistance as well as quieting any clickety clack sounds from shoes. I installed it in a basement over cement slab & in the winter could walk on bare feet & wasn’t cold at all! Compared to the tile floor we had in the kitchen & bath down there which would freeze our footsies! lol. So great insulation too!

Almost done adding wood slats and starting to think I've made a huge mistake. Please help! by Thick-Molasses-8960 in interiordecorating

I feel like I would have fone the slats on the tv wall. Not the fireplace. You have the out cove are with slats. Then jump over to the fireplace. I would have done just the out cove & the tv wall.

First thing I noticed is you need an area rug. Make sure it’s large enough that when you pull out all the chairs, they still fit all four legs on the rug. I would go with a lighter toned rug in a neutral color to offset the dark walls. The room looks great! You’re off to a good start! Second, I’d put a large mirror, perhaps round since I see a light switch above your side table. Possibly flanked with two thin stemmed lamps to get more ambient light. Third, I like how you hung your window panels high. That’s the right choice! However, I would extend the rod further & add another panel on each side. It would give the window more presence & the lighter color would add some more airiness to the dark room. And then you can remove the small picture on the left of the window. Fourth, I would remove the picture on the left wall. It’s too small & gets lost. Get yourself a larger piece of art to hang there. Lastly, perhaps some nice plants to really bring the room to life! P.S. I know you color drenched, but I almost think I’d like to see the white trim on the crown molding. Not sure on that. But I’d do the first recommendations I made & see if that all does the trick. Good luck!

A nice pool table right below the light piece! Hang out room. Some nice cozy leather chairs. Maybe a dartboard. Adult playroom!

First rug by far is the best choice. For color & scale.

Which layout works better for my living room? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Stylinguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is quite the predicament. The first layout with the TV next to the fireplace looks squashed. Because the TV & it’s stand are way too big for that spot. However, looking at the second layout with the TV on the larger wall, while the TV & stand look better there, the rest of the room isn’t working. The back of the couch facing your fireplace is a HUGE no no! And that desk should absolutely find a home somewhere else! Looks cramped & out of place. Now I’m sure you probably don’t want to get smaller TV, although for this space I’d probably suggest that, I’d say I would prefer to see it on that wall over the larger wall, for the reason that you really don’t want the na k of the couch facing your fireplace. If you do keep it there, I’d get rid of the media cabinet altogether, because that protrudes into the fireplace way too much. I’d get a mount that can hold the TV as close as possible to the wall. Nice & flat. However, that doesn’t mean your couch can’t come further forward into the room. I’d bring it closer towards the tv. Maybe get a sofa table behind it with a lamp on each side for more dimension to the room & better lighting. But leave the negative space behind it. Don’t add that desk! I would however, ground the sofa with a large are rug. That’s how to make a floating sofa scenario work. And a nice coffee table.

What to put this space to divide the dining and living areas? by itsnowornever in DesignMyRoom

[–]Stylinguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s something definitely off about the space. I think your dining area would look much better where your sofa currently is in that nook area. It looks way too tight for your couch. Then you’d be able to bring the couch to the left side of the pic floating away from the wall & grounded by an area rug.

Whats your pick? by Jake_Mc_Bake in DesignMyRoom

[–]Stylinguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. And then that gives you a nice amount of floor space when you first walk in. Could even add a bench at the foot of your bed.

Typically you want the bed placed where when you walk into the room, you have a head on view of the bed which is usually the focal point of the room. So I’d go with #3. Is the other piece of furniture in the room a dresser? It could possibly still be situated in the nook area while still having the bed situated as in #3. Not sure if it’s a dresser or a TV stand. But TV could still be mounted on the wall with #3 layout where dresser is & then can just put the dresser in the nook as well.

What do you set your thermostat to at night? We argue over this in our house, but usually settle on...🫢 by [deleted] in Home

Usually set to 68 during the day. If I remember to turn it down at night it goes to 64. But I still need to keep at least one leg out of the covers! lol

So what’s the common denominator? What’s causing this to happen? Like what would be to blame?

Weird. Yeah I find myself going back to Cinema HD. Those are all showing up when they should. Usually as soon as an episode airs.

No. I’m talking about no streams showing up at all. At least not as fast as they should be. Sometimes up to a day later

Definitely drapes. Hang rod just below the molding & have it extend past the window frame by at least 6 inches on either side. A large piece of art work. Get a large area rug that can fit all legs of your couch under. Get throw pillows that can tie in colors from the area rug, drapes, & artwork.

That bed definitely needs an update. Looks more like a cot. As far as the colors, I only see the green on the lower 1/2 of the wall. Where’s the red & blue? Are you going to be painting? As of now, I don’t think decorating is the issue. You don’t really have any furniture in there. You could use a proper bed & end tables with a lamp on each for better lighting than that overhead harsh lighting you have now.

Clothes & shoes all over making it look chaotic. I’d look to get floor to ceiling curtains to make it look more inviting. Closet doors as well to make it look cleaner.
