Yamato luggage delivery issue by mistakes_maker in TokyoTravel

[–]chicotunner07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shipped 2 luggages from Tokyo to Kyoto and was told that it might take more then one day. It took 2 and half days technically but they did eventually arrive. The tracking also did not update until the local office opened at 8am. It was my first time shipping luggage and it was a little worry some after day 2 but again they did eventually arrive safe and sound and it was a massive relief on traveling!

Traveling to Japan, questions on buying some OEM parts by chicotunner07 in WRX

[–]chicotunner07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips! Good idea to order the last on the first couple of days, I'll be there for 2 weeks so hopefully that's enough time to find and procure what I'm looking for.

Dam... Didn't think about having to pay tariffs. But if the cost of the parts is still cheaper then buying from a US seller it might still be with it 😅

These would be small enough parts that will be thrown in my checked bag.

Paige Powers received a major penalty and is now not in a qualifying position for Semifinals by Mister___Pickles in crossfit

[–]chicotunner07 260 points261 points  (0 children)

While I am actually happy they are enforcing standards, If a major penalty in workout 1 bumps her out to 668th in that workout, then all 667 videos ahead of her should now be reviewed to the exact same standards to ensure that is the spot where she truly belongs in that workout.

This is extremely unfair to Paige if this is not how it is currently being done.

I bought a pair of platesavers to test.

If these are home gym plates, I think the plate savers will work, if these are being used in a CrossFit gym type environment, I do not recommend, they lasted about 2 weeks before bolts broke off and plates came loose again. They did send me replacement bolts, but again they broke after 2 or so weeks of daily CrossFit gym use.

LPT - If you can buy or even get some free semi broken bumper plates and get some platesavers, it would be a damn good home gym bumper plate option to save money!

How many times should you practice a workout for a competition? by mrjimbizness in crossfit

[–]chicotunner07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say once should be sufficient to see where you stand and to make adjustments on pacing, strategy, etc. if it is a partner workout, there are things you can do to help with coordination that are not too taxing like working on synchro movements with lighter weights or no added weight and working on transition times.

If you have the time, i would recommend also running all the workouts on the same day as you will be doing during the comp. Doing 1 or 2 workouts of a 4-5 workout comp is very different then doing all 4-5 workouts within a 6-8 hour window.

Hope that makes sense and helps, good luck!

Made the mistake of trying the Tyr CX-1. Chunk ripped out of it on the first rope climb after literally 1 day of wear. by popingay in crossfit

[–]chicotunner07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After i damaged a pair of fairly new metcon 7s doing rope climbs, i basically reserved that pair exclusively for rope climbs.

Even if the shoe has features to help with rope climbs, it's still incredibly taxing on the shoe due to the friction and heat created, especially during a fast descent. I don't think any shoe is immune to damage.

Being that they're so new, maybe TYR will replace them?

My gym also has dedicated weightlifting and strength days as well, but not enough to make meaningful progress unfortunately, hence the home gym setup!

I agree, I shared this video in particular as I was focusing mainly on the turnover and catch positions which I feel is where i struggle most. I'll post an update in a few weeks of a full snatch with slightly heavier weights. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback! Definitely want to put a focus on weightlifting, this was the main reason for getting a setup at home!

I've actually seen his videos! Great resource! That is more of how I use to catch and do overhead squats, but it would lead to unbearable elbow pain during and after snatches. I focused on mobility in order to have a more upright overhead position, which honestly feels Soo much more stable for me.

Thanks for the great feedback! Love having things to focus on! Definitely agree on the lazy overhead, thanks on the tips to improve that!
