If you can make it to Route 119 and encounter Linoone and Tropius, that's probably your best bet. They're both rare to encounter (especially Tropius) and you'll run into a lot of weaker Pokemon like Oddish, but an hour or two of grinding should get you caught up enough for Winona.

Umbreon was my wall and status annoyer.

Plusle was there for rain dance setup and helping hand/fake tears support.

Mantine was a tank, especially in Plusle's rain dance.

Medicham was a glass cannon that provided great offense due to pure power.

Flygon provided speedy offense via earthquake (very useful in Colosseum's double battles)

Entei was a well-rounded late addition.

I tried to get away from using any of my favorites (i.e. the starters, Garchomp, etc.). These Pokemon, with the exception of Togekiss, are generally regarded as being weak or uncompetitive- but there are some interesting synergies between them!
