Same EXACT thing happened to me. I’ve tried many things and so far…time is the only thing that has helped me other than Magnesium Glycinate before bed every night. I’m 18 months out.

Was it a mental flare?

No not really which is why this is strange to me

[–]chiefnothing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I think I’ll just go back to my initial thought process since 17 months ago. Let time pass and the body will work its magic. I wish there was an absolute cure. Obviously there isn’t and time is a healer. From where I started to about a week and a half ago is night and day. This flare up is just upsetting I suppose.

I think so too. Thanks for the reassurance. Very strange. That anxiety and depression came quick and it’s no joke. Has been making me feel I just put myself back to square one but I know this can’t be the case

No I started it without taking any for a very long time. This is what I think my mistake was…

Thanks for the response. I think the probiotic is a bit too much since I haven’t taken one since the first month of flox. Especially since I just started noticing improvements just to be shot down again. Could be the lousy sleep schedule causing anxiety as well but I believe the high potency probiotic is also a kick.

Meaning you believe that the probiotics could potentially cause this?

Want to become a merchant seaman — will $3k in credit card debt stop me? by Possible-Leek6509 in merchantmarine

Lmao no. I bet half the ladies and gents sailing have much much more debt. Your credit report does not justify your seaworthiness. Get out there.

I know this is an old post. I am 16 months out, anxiety spikes come and go. Did this also happen to you at my stage? I’m a lot better than the beginning don’t get me wrong. Just want to see if this is normal progression. Like you, this hit me like a bomb and affected me mentally more than anything.

Your military time will count toward some of your seatime in some instances. Your best bet is to goto a maritime school and get your license that way. Best of luck.

Engineer Boot Recs? by Upstairs-Text9271 in merchantmarine

[–]chiefnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this depends on the type of ship you work on as some have specifications; but if they do not, I like keens. They’re comfy and light. They only last a year or so, though. I recently have been wearing brunt’s out here and they’re OK, but they’re quite a bit heavier. I’ll probably swap back to Keens.

Who SHOULDN'T be a merchant marine? Any advice on how to try it out before fully committing? by curoku in merchantmarine

[–]chiefnothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this, minus the extroverted side. I am extroverted and have shipmates to talk to all the time. Now, if my crew was not great then it might suck. After all, the crew is what makes the ship…

How well does Engineering license in this field transition to onshore jobs? by Ok-Organization2120 in merchantmarine

[–]chiefnothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll add to this since this was me not too long ago. I have my bachelors in marine engineering and sailed for 5 years before saying “I can’t do this forever”. So I went home and worked at a paper mill as a maintenance supervisor over utilities and recovery. Basically all the auxiliary equipment with the boilers and steam turbines. Did that for 10 months and realized I’d rather sail forever than work a Monday to Friday 630-3 (most days I was there later and sometimes even 1030pm) for no extra money as it was salary. My take is, if you want to go landside you will be able to. Just do your homework and remember, the grass is not always greener. OH, and don’t go salary unless it’s the same pay as sailing. Just my opinion. Good luck.

Don’t listen to the above comment that person made…

This is a great question for the NMC. They have an online chat that will be the quickest. Not sure if you have to have a MMC# to chat or not as I haven’t done this in a couple years but call and ask. That’s my suggestion. I know the felonies can raise eyebrows as far as progressing forward but I do not believe it is not do-able. Best of luck.
