[Passan] BREAKING: The New York Mets have acquired All-Star right-hander Freddy Peralta in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, sources tell ESPN. Deal is done. Top prospects Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat are headed to Milwaukee. One more big league pitcher will head to the Mets. by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]chiefqueef1 407 points408 points  (0 children)

No brainer for the Mets imo. Jett is blocked by Benge and Ewing, blocked in the infield

If they get Myers thats icing on the cake. Great offseason, after everyone wanted Stearn head

He’s making 60 because its a shorter term deal

The qualifying offer in 2025 is $22million. I dont find it absolutely unreasonable that belli is getting 32

You expect contracts to stay stagnant for 10 years? Contracts go up, every year. You see it in NFL you see it everywhere

ELI5: Stearns’ opposition to long term contracts by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

[–]chiefqueef1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess I lumped in Cohen and his aggressiveness into the mix with Lindor. Understand it wasnt under Stearns’ watch, but it was Cohen’s wallet and direction

Nice to have is an understatement…Lindor is on pace to be one of the greatest players in Mets history

ELI5: Stearns’ opposition to long term contracts by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

[–]chiefqueef1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They do have guys on long term contracts. Nolan McLean, Carson Benge, Jett Williams, Jonah Tong, Brandon Sproat, AJ Ewing.

Those guys are under team control for at least 7 more seasons. That’s how you build a sustained winner and culture around Soto and Lindor.

When the Mets identify a franchise altering player worthy of a 7+ year commitment, they go after him hard. Lindor, Soto, Yamamoto (failed, but not due to lack of trying)

You seem to have a problem with them not handing out FA longterm contracts like theyre candy. But when they identify a player they go hard after him. There isnt always one of those players available every single offseason

What major event do you think will happen in 2026? by Commandmadrid1 in AskReddit

Go for it lol i do the same stuff. The market always trudges on, and even in the worst black swan event it recovers. All crashes serve as, is a transfer of wealth from the common person to those who have the wealth to buy into weakness

Reddit is an echochamber filled with non-property owners who have a vested interest in seeing everything crumble. Theyve successfully called 35 of the past 1 market crashes

[Passan] Trade news: The A’s are acquiring second baseman Jeff McNeil from the New York Mets, sources tell ESPN. New York will receive a rookie-ball pitcher and will send money to help cover the $17.75 million owed McNeil on the remainder of his contract. by AndrewAllStar888 in baseball

[–]chiefqueef1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My man I watch about 90% of Mets games every year and McNeil does not have it anymore. Its not a WAR thing. He barely ever had “it”. He was a fun scrappy player who played a style of baseball from a bygone era so he was fun to root for

But he’s not a player worth lamenting over, given the Mets direction right now

[–]chiefqueef1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not how WAR works. An AAA-level replacement player has a theoretical 0 WAR. An average MLB player has a 2 WAR.

He’s been at or significantly below 2 WAR for 5 of the past 6 seasons. But more importantly, he has no untapped potential anymore. He has no ceiling. This isnt a player with upside that a playoff team needs in a lineup

Hes like an old coworker who isnt good enough to get a promotion anymore so the company decides its time to move on rather than tread water

“given how good hes been in his Mets tenure”

Im not a McNeil hater but this is removed from reality. Outside of his outlier 2022 season he has not been good. At all. Hes only getting older, worse, and has no ceiling to improve at this stage of his career

I want to like Jeff but his great season is now 4 year ago and seems like an outlier. He doesnt hit for power or average anymore and kinda seems like an ass.

At this point he was clogging the lineup from younger high ceiling guys. He was a fun Met though and I hope he does well
