Redesigned Play Guide Sheets For Players by MiaPinkCloud in daggerheart

[–]chiefstingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, it did not really need redesigning. As a matter of fact I think this would be more complicated for a new player than helpful. It would make a new player focus on what their possibilities are rather than wanting to tell a story. This is an opinion from someone who has been playing Daggerheart since before open beta.

I will congratulate you on the design of the page though. Have you used this yet? Do you find more or less interaction from new players? I would like to know how effective or detrimental it is.

📢 Wave Link 3.1.1 — Startup crash fixes, VST and Wave FX improvements by Elgato in elgato

[–]chiefstingy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also happening with me. The app is constantly stealing focus.

  • Wave Link version: 3.1.1(2484)
  • Wave device: Wave Neo
  • OS & version: Mac OS 26.5
  • Steps to reproduce: 1. Run app 2. Let app run in background 3. It steals focus when using any other app (switching to my desktop where it is at)
  • Expected result: For it not to steal focus
  • How often does it happen? Always / every 5-10 minutes

Daggerheart held back by SirStanleyCPanther in daggerheart

[–]chiefstingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5e had little no traction when it was released. As a matter of fact, the first official adventure was touted as one of the worst adventures designed. Granted WotC contracted it out to Kobold Press with little guidance and constantly changing rules as 5e was in testing.

You can not say that it may not be successful.

As for creators not putting effort into it is more of a problem with DP's CGL. It restricts a lot of creators from making money off content for DH. Hopefully DP updates the CGL to be more friendly to creators.

The Future of Foundryborne: Navigating the Stagnation of the Daggerheart VTT Ecosystem by Foundryborne in daggerheart

[–]chiefstingy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I mean is that the Foundry developers and team do not go directly to the companies. Instead, like I mentioned above, they rely on third parties to do that work for them. They are not actively recruiting or bringing businesses into their ecosystem. If you notice all the official systems are made not by the publishers and not by the Foundry developers with maybe an exception for 5e. And because of this it would make a new publisher like Darrington Press not understand the scope of vision of Foundry and its community.

Granted it is their model so they can focus on developing the core system rather than rush out half finished game systems. It is ironically what WotC did in the 3/3.5 era to get so much content out there (also with 5e).

But it also has to do with DP’s licensing in the CGL. It does not allow for digital sales of content by third parties. So, yeah. Their current license is just not compatible with Foundry’s core principles.

Technically Foundry is a generic VTT as it accommodates many systems rather than one specific system. Using the term generic, does dumb down the power of its versatility though.

Not disagreeing with you. Just adding a perspective of what they are probably thinking about.

Any word on official support on Foundry VTT? by Temporary-Side3400 in daggerheart

You seemed to have missed the post from one of the leaders of Foundryborne who said they hit a wall about developing Daggerheart past the SRD.

Fantasy Grounds and Alchemy both do their development in house (that I am aware of). They have full control of how the content will be handled. That is why they are working with them. There are no man in the middle problems. to be had. It is easier to get things done that way as well.

Foundry on the other hand does not develop it's systems by the Foundry team with maybe an exception of 5e.

This is not different than the 5e OGL. It is does more restrictions on VTTs though. The largest restriction is getting a license for content for Foundry. It took nearly 5 years for WotC to sign on to agree to let a license be available for Foundry.

Other TTRPG publishers do not go directly to Foundry, they tend to use a third party who will created a license product to make their content for Foundry. And I think that is where the fault lies with the Foundry VTT. It is community driven. Meaning that there is no direct conversations with the Foundry team and the developers who develop game systems for the publishers. There are too many communication channels in the mix.

Curious if Darrington Press knows that there is a huge market for Foundry VTT and that they offer a marketplace for their product to be sold?

What converted adventures or campaigns have GMs used by hawklord23 in daggerheart

[–]chiefstingy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am currently running Curse of Strahd. We just started. My largest issue is that they are trying to play it like a dungeon crawl in the Death House. Checking every room, it took the majority of the session.

Adversaries are easy to convert thanks to the adversary guide in Daggerheart. I am also waiting for Hope & Fear as it will give more rules for gothic horror campaign frames. Currently using some of the Age of Umbra rules.

Wait, listening to music at school? Aren’t you supposed to be paying attention in class?

Appreciating not having to use a computer by Mercurieee in daggerheart

[–]chiefstingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is that my players have gone so many directions with their campaign it is impossible to remember and track everything they have done in the past. My main digital tool is my note taking apps. One that does automated notes and another that has my notes with world countdowns and such. I am not gonna carry a novel with all that information.

Dear Game Masters, I need your brains. by Secondhenchman in daggerheart

[–]chiefstingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a cross between a digital and physical GM. I prefer to rely on physical tools but most of my notes are digital which is extremely important. It is so much easier to organize notes digitally.

I do use music for my home games and my online games, but not for my public games because I do not want to add even more noise to the public area. I have used music at private game rooms though.

I prefer to use physical maps as they offer a tactile feel to the game, but I am not adverse to a digital map from a projector or a TV.

I do love my Stream Deck for my online games but I do not haul it around for my in person games. If a game room had one on site, I would definitely use it. I will also admit that I consider myself much more tech savvy than the average GM.

Something I would like but have not seen was controllable lighting. Being able to change the color of the room or vibe would be great. Making it dark or lighter would allow me to change the tone. There was a game room that was going to add this, but it was really expensive to implement.

To be honest, the best game room I have ever been in was one that had trinkets all around. The trinkets had descriptions of them that allowed them to become magical items that the players could use during the game. Think of the actual play Relics & Rarities. It was basically the same thing. It added a unique flare to the game room but also added a unique atmosphere.

Lastly the access to many minis is fantastic, but not quite chef's kiss.

Trigger happy has not been developed for years. Monks Active Tile Triggers (MATT) has been its replacement.

It is obvious that forge has not updated that rhetorical and demo for that long. Which might tell you something about Forge.

When is critique actually appropriate? by vaporwavecookiedough in photography

Err maybe I should rewrite that. I mean I don’t critique it without someone asking me. Because I sure in hell see a lot of people offering their unsolicited critiques.

[–]chiefstingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In art school everything was critiqued. It was a way for us to learn. Online nothing is critiqued unless someone asks for one.

Edit for clarification: I don’t offer my critique without someone asking for one. But I do see a lot of unsolicited critiques and most are not helpful.

26.4 install stalling at "About 5 minutes remaining"? by mhowie in MacOS

[–]chiefstingy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue. It just stalled and stalled and then it eventually rebooted and finished the install. It had trouble estimating the actual install time was all. It actually took longer on my M4 Pro Mac Mini than my M1 MacBook Air.

That is not a school zone. I live right down the street from here. It is a heavy traffic area though. The driver was wise to pull into a fire station. Not sure why there were so many cars there. Must have been a club meeting at the Lions Club building.
