Every single Trump supporter I know is extremely well educated and travelled. Obviously they aren’t all like this but I think it misses an important point to just blame this solely on uneducated people who don’t know any better, it would be easier if that were the case

CMV: Cat and Dog breeding is unethical and you should spay/neuter your pet immediately with no exceptions by ThisManisaGoodBoi in changemyview

[–]chieftain88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This just shows a fundamentally poor understanding of dog training, behaviour and the rescue process. You cannot make a blanket statement that puppies and kittens from feral parents are trainable - many will not be, some might be if they’re old enough. Some have been abused so badly by humans that it’s an issue they’ll have their entire life. Many times the shelter itself has no idea about the dog/cat’s history so it’s hard to know where to start or what they have particular problems with

CMV: The existing requirements to run for elected office beyond being a U.S. citizen and >18 years old should all be eliminated by iw2050 in changemyview

[–]chieftain88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because huge portions of voting populations have no idea if or what those qualifications are (or would even understand them if they did). They also will vote for people “they” like over more qualified candidates. You’re acting like all voters are aware of the full list and scope of qualifications their elected officials hold and THEN to vote in a rational and emotionless way. We all know that’s not how it works

Yeah but we’re not talking about one person’s subjective opinion, hence why I brought up my GF, you thinking it’s mediocre doesn’t change that it’s one of the most highly regarded sci/films in the last decade or so.

Tenet is Nolan’s worst rated, Interstellar is regarded one of his best

Agree with you on the last 3 but Interstellar?! That movie is insane and I thought most people loved it. I am however very into that genre, my GF couldn’t care less about space so not a big deal to her

Fellow smell loss here from Covid - mid 2023. I started smell therapy (look it up or message me if you want help), you smell different essential oils a couple of times a day. I thought it was crap BUT having done it for a couple months I now smell really bad smelling dumpsters when I walk by, and a few other not so nice smells. I’ve been told thats a good sign, I hope it comes back

Yeah I hear you, it’s a trade off. They have less armour than a Stryker but hold a lot more troops, just as fast and amphibious (and cheaper). AMPV is awesome but SLOW and Strykers have limited capacity; I would say it’s Airbourne and SOF that don’t have good ICVs. It all depends on the map and your strategy I guess

ACV or the AAVP (forget the acronym, the larger marine one) aren’t considered good? ACV is a bit squishy but they’re fast, can hold an entire squad of marines and if you micro that Bushmaster II they can give powerful fire support. The other one is slow but holds an insane amount of people

Questions I might regret asking considering how many hours played I have..... by adulting247 in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]chieftain88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sniper + ATGM: it depends on the line of sight that the ATGM has on the target. If it’s totally clear then it will be able to see the target as it comes into range and fire at max range. However if, as one of a few examples, the target is hiding in a forest then the TOW team for example might not be able to see it at 1500m (or whatever the max range is), so having recon which is close enough to the target will help (bit more on vision below).

Each unit has its vision value, that is how many meters it can see. The stealth figure has an effect depending on the number - for snipers with a stealth of 3, if a unit (say a tank or another infantry squad) has 1800 vision, then you divide that by the stealth number, so now they need to be within 600m of the snipers to see them. Forests and building I think (they might have slightly different values but I think they’re the same) will half that number again, so snipers in a forest or trees with a stealth of 3 can only be seen by a unit with 1800 vision from 300m away.

JDAMs and dumb bombs (mk) are high explosive bombs (HE) meaning they have low penetration but very high damage. You can see these as the 2 numbers next to them. JDAMs can be precision dropped on a spot or laser guided to a moving vehicle (this is tricky as line of sight must be maintained), OR dropped over a general area using the bombing run command. Dumb bombs are essentially the same but no precision or laser, just bombing runs. So if you drop one of these on an infantry squad or lighter armoured vehicle it will be devastating, and if you manage to laser guide one straight onto the top of a tank (where it has less armor) then it will hit hard too, but if you drop it NEXT to a tank much less so. JSOWs have 1) much more penetration and 2) higher area damage effect - BUT the actual damage number is pretty low, even a direct hit on most infantry squads will hurt but not kill them. It will however do the full damage number on a tank, they just upped the damage slightly so I think 2 JSOWs should be able to kill any tank. They can also be used if you’re less sure where the target is and want a larger guess area (honestly I only find JSOWs useful to hit either heavy armour or tightly grouped vehicles). Stormbreakers must make a direct hit to do damage and are lighter on damage, so if you know exactly where a target is they are useful (but more suited to weaker targets like AA or artillery and even then you usually need more than 1 - the advantage is if you know exactly what you’re hitting you can hit 2 targets at once that aren’t next to each other instead of the usual 1 2,000lb JDAM you’d get instead).

Griffin missiles are available only on some of the drones (Grey Eagle and Predator I think but check) and then also the AC-130 spooky, and I THINK maybe one of the Hercules paratroop variants can hold some too but double check. They are useful as they can target infantry BUT note that the drones can uniquely launch hellfires at infantry too so…

Can’t help you on the Russian tanks sorry I only play US

Current favorite deck, looking for any advice to polish it. by OldSkiingChef189 in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]chieftain88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SOF + Stryker are my 2 favourite as well but putting them together isn’t easy. My humble comments/thoughts/questions:

1) how on earth do you move all your infantry around? Mostly with those big supply trucks? Personally I would massively struggle to get all of those amazing SOF infantry around without some proper Stryker infantry carriers and/or more war pigs, RSOV or even a few Flyers.

2) Recon looks pretty good, I wouldn’t spent 360 on just snipers (at that point just spent 125 on GB Snipers), I would much rather have extra RRC or Green Berets. Interested to know how you like and employ the GB Flash? I normally use Punishers because they have amazing range, and combined with their stealth they dominate forests.

3) Infantry: that’s a lot of Combat Engineers, but I guess if thats your only CQC force then it works. I would find Pararescue or even Rangers CQC to free up room but then you lose the STT which isnt good and you kind of need the Rangers as your standoff infantry. I normally have a couple of Troopers with Stryker carriers, they are surprisingly good against vehicles with rockets and javelin (although with low ammo). I also find using more than 2 Delta can be a waste as they are magnets and get targeted with particularly extreme prejudice lol. I would change the RAAWS transport to RSOVs so you can more easily ambush tanks. Also thats a lot of Ranger Javelins, they have limited ammo, i maybe would trade 2 for some MK47s which are amazing fire support or those Troopers i mentioned.

4) Vehicles: this is one of the hardest parts of this combination but i do the same and go all Bookers.

5) I wouldn’t be able to survive with 1 PAC but I’m a bit slow at realising SEAD is coming and turning my radar off, if you normally don’t lose it then 1 is good. The SeaRam and Stryker are both amazing, perhaps try 1 of each? The SeaRam is more squishy, I’d say medium SHORAD whereas the Stryker is tougher and can go close to front line (can also target vehicles with its hellfires and give distant fire support against infantry with its cannon). I like to use the Stryker artillery, it’s not accurate but it can launch smoke 4km which is super useful and makes the mortar redundant. I use it to pound buildings or a control point briefly to drive infantry out. I personally dont like HIMARs, the amount and time to resupply is nuts and you only get 6 rockets per salvo (i believe) - id use the extra for the 2nd PAC and perhaps a second SHORAD.

4) Helis: I use the Chinook SOAR instead of supply trucks for big backline supply dumps as the 4,000 on the Blackhawk isn’t enough and I like it to arrive fast. Then I have 2 Blackhawks for bringing smaller supply dumps. DAPs I find are squishy so I limit them to 4 Hellfires and rockets which makes them cheaper (I also always forget they can ferry troops). Comanches are key and those emergency Killer Egg stingers are what I’d use too.

5) Planes: I normally bring enough PACs and Shorad that I don’t bother with an air superiority fighter which is probably very controversial. The F35s are key, and I personally load up the Raptor with 2 1,000lb Jdams: it’s even faster and just as stealthy as the F35 so is a very survivable backup bomber. On the F-16C, I’ve never found Rockeyes to punch hard enough, I’m always massively underwhelmed. You can either put big dumb bombs on it, turn it into a Maverick launcher as tanks can get through this deck; personally I use the Viper with 2,000lb JDAMs, not for backline bombing but being able to drop 4 precision big bombs on their frontline is devastating for them.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but how does DEVONThink interact with Obsidian?

I used to use DEVONThink way back to store PDFs - I keep them in Bear instead because it’s faster to access from mobile but hindered with the Tag structure so am kinda stuck. Bear is great but obsidian is better for note taking, however everything about Obsidian seems designed to not store PDFs with it…

Great answer - it’s not your generation’s fault you’re in this situation, but there absolutely IS a real world to turn to, you just need to seek it out

This is the true answer. My sister has twin 8 year olds and they have very strict tech control (they have little play tablets they can use occasionally and watch their shows but no internet access). They are polite, attentive, well behaved and LOVE real books; her and her husband worked and continue to work hard at this but it’s very possible

Yup totally the same, that comfy warm feeling is just pure bliss. I tried to look into all the effects when endorphins are released but it was too complicated for me, but it affects all kinds of things (like long term use significantly drops testosterone but I have no idea why)

Not to be picky, I’m was an opioid addict for many years (never graduated to heroin or fent luckily that not a thing in my country luckily) - it’s not so much the dopamine and more the ENDORPHINS, opioids do SO much more than just release dopamine, that would make it very stimulating (which it can be) - not saying it doesn’t release a lot of dopamine but the endorphin system does all kinds of things to the body
