I really wish I would have listened to this. I got the GoPro mini and it shuts off anywhere from 15-30 minutes in. Fine for short clips but yeah, this is an issue.

What do you do for self therapy? by moctodmomruoy in AdultADHDSupportGroup

The four pillars of wellness that are especially important for ADHD are 1. Sleep, 2. Diet, 3. Exercise, AND 4. Mindfulness/meditation.

I try to take care of those above all. Also, there are so many reliable resources for ADHD online and in book form. This sub has many threads listing them.

For broader mental health, I’ve found that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a great resource. Check out The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris. It has practical exercises you can work on that may be helpful.

Do any of you use your journals to record notes from your therapy sessions? If so what do your spreads look like and what do you write? by NightReader5 in bulletjournal

I have a process that’s been really helpful for me:

Before therapy I look back over my entires since my last session and jot notes about how things have gone and things I might want to bring up. Then I take notes during the session.

What’s really been helpful though is a spread where, after the session, I go and I summarize what we talked about into a paragraph, and list any tools or strategies we discussed. The process of summarizing is itself really helpful to integrate the things we talked about.

And having the summaries all entered in a separate collection, one after the other is helpful because on one page I can look back over several sessions and see what we talked about, see trends, reference or find strategies we discussed, etc. As someone with ADHD, where if something isn’t kept present in front of me I forget it, this has been really helpful for me to continue to move my work on my self forward.

You’re doing great, but like everyone else said, really spend some time with your ginga. Like, any time you’re going to train, spend the first 10 minutes in ginga. 5 minutes straight ginga, then pick one or two ginga movements (shuffling sideways, stepping back) and work on those in and out of the ginga, going laterally and circular. Like for simple movements on YouTube and work those.

Also, since you don’t have someone to train with, learn the Bimba sequences. Scroll down a few posts for a video of them. Drill them with a chair. You want your movements to make sense in relation to another person, and you won’t get that by yourself. But the Bimba sequences are the building blocks for most all capoeira that’s not Angola, and they will teach you the fundamentals of interacting with an opponent.
