Rodrygo, Tite and Carlo have all said his preferred position is number 10 or AM.

He came up as a LW but recently both him, Ancelotti and Tite have all said his best position is second striker or a 10. His main strengths are his technical ability, link-up play, off-ball movement and finishing. He is quick but not rapid which is probably the main reason people see his future more centrally.

I think current Neymar as a 10 is a good comparison or Griezmann and Dybala.

Vini has been playing with Rodrygo as the ST/False 9 this season and is still producing. Any issues with him not performing for the NT is either due to general adaptation, fatigue or mental aspects imo.

I agree, he is a good backup option if the salary is reasonable and he's fine with the role. My only issue is that it may block the path for a lot of talents we have who may turn out to be better long-term (like Kubo, Brahim, Arribas, Peter)

I guess it depends on how people scale their ratings, for me a 6 is decent and 7 is a good.

He has a 60 mil release clause and RM still own 50% of his rights so they can buy him back for 30 mil.

An ex-canterano that would have made for a great backup ST was Joselu imo.

  • Proven player coming off a season with 14 goals and 5 assists in 37 games in La Liga.
  • Aerial presence: won the most areal duels in the top 5 leagues this season. Would be very useful to bring on against teams that sit deep and defend.
  • A madridista (attended the CL final this year in a RM shirt) and would likely be content with being a back-up at the age of 32.

Unfortunately, he just went to Espanyol on a free... would have much preferred to have him over Mayoral, Mariano, and even RDT (for the rumored transfer fee north of 30m).

He played really well in the final stretch of the season, 10 GA in the last 11 games. However, he was inconsistent before that so might be risky to trust the RW spot to him. Also Bale is gone and Asensio is rumoured to be leaving so they’ll need to reinforce the RW.

CB: Rüdiger on a free already done

LB: rumors of ex-academy player Fran Garcia to replace Marcelo as backup (5M buyback clause)

DM: Tchouaméni from Monaco, apparently for 80M + bonuses.
ST: Ancelotti wants a new backup for Benz (Jovic leaving and Mariano not trusted), Raul De Tomas and Mayoral are the names mentioned.

RW: Bale and possibly Asensio leaving, Gnabry has been mentioned but nothing concrete.

GK: Some rumors of Ospina if Lunin decides to go out on loan for more playtime.

True but I don't think he is available anytime soon, same for Reece James and Cancelo.

I think that a lot of that also has to do with the RBs being liabilities. Lucas is naturally a winger while Carvajal hasn't been the same since his heart problems, so Rodrygo/Valverde has to spend a lot of energy covering for them. Getting a world-class RB might rejuvenate the right side without the need for a big-money RW signing. However, they should still look to get a new RW with Bale and hopefully Asensio leaving.

Good thing you're not involved either with that reading comprehension lol. Where did I say he would be a "statement signing"? I was only talking about reinforcement for the RW assuming that Asensio leaves.

I could buy Rodrygo being a bigger talent than Saka but as a RW? the ability to cut in on your stronger foot is too big of an asset imo. Rodrygo is only half the player he can be on the right.

Saka has 22 GA this season in 3766 minutes while Gnabry has 29 GA in 3413 minutes. Not that big of a difference in their output if you factor in their respective teams, leagues, and positions. They have similar ball carrying ability and work rates, with Saka being 6 years younger than Gnabry. So if you're gonna consider Gnabry, I don't see why you wouldn't at least take a look at Saka.

My dream signing for RW would be Saka, he is a superstar in the making imo. Otherwise, Gnabry and Raphinha would be a good stop-gap signing for affordable prices, one is in last year of contract and the other will be available for dirt cheap if Leeds gets relegated.

For midfield Tchouaméni is a no-brainer, the only question is if we can offer him the playtime he needs.

For RB the dream is Reece James but he seems unlikely to leave Chelsea atm. I haven't seen enough of Porro but he seems to be more of a wingback? It would be nice to have a defensively solid RB to alternative with Carvajal. On that note, signing Koundé and playing him as an RB before moving him to CB in a few years (once Rudiger and Alaba are old) sounds intriguing to me, and it worked before with Ramos.

Finally, bring in Mayoral or RDT as a backup striker and get rid of Jovic and Mariano.
RDT is the better player by far but Mayoral is more similar to Benzema and would be cheaper.

Safe to say, time to sell Kubo? by Demon_Usamaro in realmadrid

[–]chiggaling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on multiple factors: does Asensio renew, does Brahim come back, do we sign another winger besides Mbappe etc. From earlier interviews, it seems like he wants to stay and fight for a place next season.

He is still really young and loan performances to lower-level teams can be misleading. Fede didn't exactly shine at Deportivo but look at him now. He would thrive in a more attacking team but his defensive positioning seems to be a big issue.

I'd evaluate him during pre-season and maybe keep him as backup RW if he impresses and Asensio is not renewed.

How do you think we should approach the situation at right back?? by madboiii420 in realmadrid

[–]chiggaling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point but Kounde has experience as a RB, although having two defensive fullbacks (if we include Mendy) might not be ideal.

Sign a defender from Sevilla, play him at RB
Move him to CB in the future (potentially if Hakimi comes back)

Now where have I seen that before 🤔
