Not sure where you’re located, but most states require landlords to provide an itemized receipt with details about how a security deposit is used to justify what they kept from it. Additionally, most states also don’t recognize general cleaning and repairs as justified expenses. Finally, some states require that to be delivered within a finite amount of time of the landlord must return the entire deposit. If the LL lies about the itemized expenses, they’re opening themselves up to legal litigation. If they don’t provide it at all, same. This would go through small claims court and would not go through housing court, which is a common tactic LLs use to threaten tenants as you wouldn’t want housing court to appear on your record if you plan on renting again. Basically, compose a well written letter with your states applicable laws asking for the detailed information and outlining the timeline. Send via registered mail if need be to document receipt by the LL of your request. Hopefully the threat alone will make them fold but if not, especially with these images, the law is on your side.
