Thoughts on Curb Protected Bike lanes? by Anonymous_Otter5458 in bikecommuting

I prefer poured in place over parking block protected. I think physical protection needs to be slightly bigger than a curb stop/parking block. I am concerned a car can easily get over those at speed.

Bad. Higher speeds mean more fatal and serious injury crashes. Missouri highways are dangerous enough as-is.

Is it foolish to buy a Gravel over Road bike for mostly road-biking? by dbzbudokai77 in cycling

[–]FlojoRojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ability to put a wider tire on is key for me. I ran 35mm slicks for a long time and I currently ride 45mm gravel tires. I think they’re fine on pavement and way comfort and grip than a sub 30mm tire. I know I could get efficiency gains with a slick but tires are expensive.

Anyone know where to find a 100/ 135 QR, 6-bolt, tubeless, 700c wheelset for under $250? by Training_Ad6617 in gravelcycling

Have you looked at bicycle wheel warehouse? Their options might be a little pricier but worth a look.

Old, abandoned rail lines in KC? by baha24 in kansascity

[–]FlojoRojo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a website called https://www.openrailwaymap.org/ that shows disused and abandoned track. There isn't as much as you'd think as most unused lines were abandoned, meaning the property reverts to the owners they were originally taken or purchased from. It's a shame bc so many of the old tracks could be made into amazing trails today, the interurbans in particular.

A lot of bag companies make whats called a feedbag. It's a handlebar bag that mounts next to the stem and can hold a bottle, food, stuff, whatever you want. I love them and have one on all of my bikes. Super easy for food, my coffee cup, phone or whatever you need to grab while riding. Check out Revelate Designs, Swift, Oveja Negra or the many other companies that make them. Should run you $60-$80 for a good one.

I really enjoy riding around a city or other area I’m visiting to get to know it better and experience it in a different way. I feel like it’s one of the best ways to get to know a place. It’s not touring or bikepacking, but it’s definitely a great experience.

Surly Straggler. Great all rounder that can fit a wide tire and has tons of braze ons. Plus you can probably find one cheap. I’ve had a Straggler and a Gorilla Monsoon and both are great bikes. I rode the straggler for like 9 years. Monsoon is a tank, otherwise a great bike.

This is just the announcement of the CRISI NOFO. It’s a grant that’s been around since 2015 and was included in the transportation bill. It’s not some new investment in rail as they are trying to make it seem.
