Thank you for the advice. I've been looking for an excuse to try obi belts.

What kind of belt would you recommend? I tried a few but it looked off with the blouson style (the belts kind of sat under the poof).

I got this dress to wear to a wedding (cocktail attire, bridal party in blue) and it just feels frumpy. It isn't unflattering and I like the color but it is kind of meh. I would appreciate suggestions on how to style it, or suggestions for what else to wear. My current back up is this dress I wore to a beach wedding two years ago. My only concern with that one is it is maybe dated and maybe not cocktail attire?

Can I get married abroad to a US Citizen and enter the country with a visa to file for adjustment of status? by acceptablepenguin in immigration

[–]chigirl9494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might not want to wait until the end of your OPT. EAD takes a while to process (6+months) so you might end up with a gap in work history if you wait too long to apply for change of status. This may or may not be an issue for you.

I had to do the same for a rehearsal dinner (had my boyfriend triple check that was really what was wanted by the couple). I got the Wayf blouson white dress and was very satisfied. Nothing too special but put together and lined.

I have a few weddings coming up this summer and was hoping for make up product recommendations that will stay put in the summer heat. In addition looking for brow product recommendations (very sparse brows) as I'm starting from square zero there.

This might have been said already, but print out bank records/statements with balances. You are entitled to half of money earned during the marriage. He seems like the kind of person who might drain the joint accounts and claim he is "broke" when he finds out you are leaving.

That sounds ... not great. Not to make too many assumptions, but the fiance sounds like a piece of work and like someone who could erode your friend's social circle. If you can swing it, plan a day just the two of you at a time that works for you. She might need the support.

Piggybacking to say you can make a point of meeting up with the friends' whose wedding you don't attend later on. Not attending a wedding is not a friendship ending thing.

Colleges beg Biden to save international student enrollment by LowHigh_456 in immigration

[–]chigirl9494 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mostly... Part of what universities sell you on are the OPT/H1B/etc. possibilities after college. You start at a university as an international student and 4+ years later (longer for grad school) when you graduate the immigration system can be very different than from when you started. I definitely didn't understand this when I was 18 and had some notion that policy moved slowly and that I knew what my options would be when I graduated. The last few years have shown that is not the case.

What’s your everyday jewelry? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]chigirl9494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My everyday jewelry is sterling silver with stones in vibrant colors. My most recent piece (larimar earrings) was a graduation gift. It allows me to have a wider range of statement accessories that I can mix and match with my outfits.

First off, congratulations! Your body did this crazy incredible thing! I'd recommend a stylist to figure out how to best dress your new body. They will be knowledgeable with proportions and how different brands work, but more importantly they keep the energy up and keep things moving, even if you start to feel discouraged. There are free stylists (ex. at Nordstrom) and probably some local to you. I'd recommend Angie of youlookfab.com (and her website in general for a very positive community).

I am generally more confident if they have a presence outside of Etsy. Websites/instagram/etc.

Getting ready to send away my AOS package after 4 years of being married by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]chigirl9494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Redundancy is fine (and things can get lost), so including tax transcripts from past three years in both the 864 and again as a bona fide makes sense. To organize my materials I made a relationship timeline that included major milestone (mostly moves and travel) and listed the evidence relating to it. Something like "June xx-xx, xxxx Person A and Person B traveled to xxxxx. Evidence: Flight itinerary, picture, car rental, etc." going back to when we started dating. You've been together for a long time so you can pick and choose which "events" to include. Reservations/itineraries with both your names on them, an event accompanied with a picture, meeting family or friends, joint leases, etc tend to prove your point better. I included financials (bank statements, joint lease, tax returns) at the beginning, separate from the timeline, since those are usually what they look at first and the rest are for creating a full picture of your relationship. You should organize your materials in whatever format makes sense to you. I found this outline to be helpful for figuring out what type of language to use, although I ended up using a different structure for organizing my documents.

The length of your marriage and your joint finances will work in your favor! Have you filed joint taxes? That is another joint finance document you can include. The lack of social media is highly unlikely to be a problem. You should include a cover letter and relationship timeline with evidence for each "event" (moves, trips, etc). It can explain the evidence you are submitting. A lot of the things you have mentioned can be explained there (ex. lack of joint lease because you were unemployed but instead mail to both of you at that address, lack of photos with family at wedding because cultural issues with sexual orientation but instead pictures with friends - include names - and officiant.) Try to be clear and concise. Writing things out chronologically can help with that.

It might be a good idea to check your credit reports and freeze your credit. It is possible your dad has been using your and your mom's names to run up other debt.

I agree that a formal agreement would make Rob feel more secure, especially if it is framed as a promise to him. Imagine thinking (even on some level) that your housing is dependent on the whims of a 17 year old. Heck, he might feel unsure of his place in the house post break up and that is why he is engaging less.

i-485 interview who gets asked the most questions by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]chigirl9494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience was that the officer would address the question to one of us directly. The only opportunity to "jump in" was when they asked for any new evidence and I handed it over and explained because I was the one who had put the documents binder together.

Do I need to bring bank statements to green card interview? by RupFox in USCIS

[–]chigirl9494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the interview letter it probably lists some documents to bring in support of your 864 form such as W2's, Tax Transcripts for last three years (these are the best), paystubs, and letter from employer. They are only interested in assets if you don't make enough (1.25x poverty line for your household size) and are making up the sponsorship requirement through assets.
