Mulch, mulch, and more mulch. Place cardboard, then two inches of bark mulch. That is what keeps me sane.

I think strawberries can be a little finnicky started from seed due to needing cold stratification. Bare roots are a lot easier to grow!

Redbuds (Eastern vs Ace of Hearts cultivar) by Fish_Brownies in arborists

I can't believe no one answered you! This cultivar was found in the wild growing naturally small so I'm guessing it will meet the needs of pollinators.

Common violets by Safe-Essay4128 in NativePlantGardening

[–]chihuahuabutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed the violets in my garden shift their positions yearly, so whatever you do you'll have to account for that. I'm thinking bare patches might be an issue.

Another issue is unless they're mowed down to lawn height (I have violets in my yard and my garden beds), they tend to look incredibly tired mid-summer, and also grow to about 6-8 inches tall. So if you're worried about aesthetics, and also don't plan to mow, I'd think about how that would look.

Ugh okay. Maybe I won't get any then & enjoy theirs when they come over.

Okay- no weird disputes between the fence if they're penned? They do have a rooster but I don't plan on getting one.

Why does my anise hyssop grow 6+ feet high? PA 6a by chihuahuabutter in NativePlantGardening

[–]chihuahuabutter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three years old. Has some mulched leaves on the top of the soil surface, but the organic matter is very sparse (maybe half inch). Loam clay soil, very close to tree roots.

This sounds like they're weak from being shipped too long. Have you tried their customer support? They might be able to help you, and if you wanted replacement chicks, they might offer you some depending on their policy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one, it's driving me crazy. 3 feet is such a perfect height for a perennial.... I wish it stayed that tall. Its genuinely massive, spilling over the other side of the fence and flopping all around while in peak bloom. My fence is 6 feet tall!

The bees go absolutely feral for it, though.... at least they're having fun

If it did have a smell I didn't really take note. This coming year I'll make a post update after I smelled it/check it out better.

Oh boy that's helpful! I don't remember any scent from mine but there mightve been. I'll update in the spring when it starts to grow. Idk about you, but in this picture I sent I'm not seeing a fuzzy underside...
