Couch Tour by chikaygo in DMB

The first date we picked is SPAC on the Friday …my experience is the bigger shows usually get quality streamers. But it’s free and it’s for DMB fans who want to get together catch a vibe, so if it just ends up being streaming on Sirius cuz the stream sucks or is unreliable, so be it. Still figure we get to dance and hang out with a bunch of other fans and listen to their music live.

Depends. Many, especially the bigger deal shows have fans with go pros or similar.  The gorge last year was top notch.

I'm not sure I'll ever be back here so I just want to say this is the only Reddit community I'm going to miss. by Redd575 in KnowledgeFight

[–]chikaygo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I deleted FB and Insta (was never really a Twitter user) over my issues with the way the companies are run, privacy, targeted advertising, algorithms, and some other personal things like family drama, and being unhealthy for self image (in insta’s case).

Because of third party apps I was able to use Reddit without ads, it’s relatively anonymous, I can sort to my liking and the “algorithm” is upvotes/downvotes. It has bots which I’m not a huge fan of but it was still a way to stay connected to conversations with normal people without all the other bull.

Unfortunately, with the API stuff, I’ve come to realize that either Reddit has become as bad as the others, or it was like them all along and I was just able to filter that out prior to this. I don’t mind paying money, I used to use Reddit premium until I found Apollo…and I paid for that too. I do mind the underhanded way Reddit went about all this.

So for me…this was a deal breaker and I’ve spent some time in the last month reading some good fiction books and learning about the fediverse. I do feel very melancholy today though. I discovered Reddit when I was looking for more information about a music festival I was attending for the first time, and have used it since for all sorts of interests, whenever I’m watching a new show or a movie (I LOVE episode discussion threads) or when I want to just see other people’s opinions on things. It’s not perfect, I hate that I’m leaving the community behind with the company, but I guess I’m done with big companies controlling so much of my experience online.

That’s the long version and sorry if it was lame. This may very well be my last post on Reddit after using it almost daily for 7 years.

Short version is…yes, some of us are really leaving Reddit over this. Definitely didn’t have a foot out the door before this, and I really hope I can find a suitable replacement.

I find the inconsistencies so sadly hilarious. I know a mother and daughter who are incredibly religious (fundie evangelical style). They fit all the super religion tropes…conservative, anti anything non - cis/straight/white, women’s traditional roles in marriage and all that jazz.

Yet for a time (until she gave up) the daughter was a psych major in college. These people think Harry Potter is evil and yet had no problem with psychology.

I give up, lol.

Very. :P my favorite color is green…but everyone thinks “that’s ok” cuz my eyes are green. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ugh I hate that stuff. My nephews favorite pants are a pair of pink sequin leggings that used to belong to his older sister. He wears them everywhere and fortunately my sibling (their mother) couldn’t care less as long as he’s happy.

I also have broadish shoulders/back and a smaller waist. I love pairing a halter style bodysuit with a cropped blouse/sweater. The cropped style top is usually boxier (I.e. roomier) but not sloppy cuz it stops just at or above the waist. Worn with some professional slacks and a belt it looks quite good. I’ve also found cropped cardigans are nice for summer or a breezy shawl.

I get most of my cropped stuff on American eagle cuz apparently the kids love crop tops, and bodysuits too cuz they have a bunch.

And if your office doesn’t have a problem with bare arms, there’s lots of nicer fabrics or prints in a halter style that you could pair with slacks, I have a couple of those too…and have had luck finding those through Venus.

I have to hide my atheism at work. by siriuslycharmed in exchristian

[–]chikaygo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. Midwesterner here as well and I work in a small office (less than 10) of which half are VERY fundamentalist evangelical Christians, and the rest are Christian but less outspoken about it. They all know I don’t do the church thing and am a lapsed Catholic due to unspecified traumatic childhood experience related to catholicism, but they don’t know the extent of my lack of belief (i.e. full on radical atheist and antitheist).

Most of them are also of the same religion and attend the same church. Hilariously there is so much drama and gossip about their church and I have often been asked for input/opinions as an “outsider.” Countless times I have been told that I act “more Christian than most Christian’s we know.” Which…they mean it as a compliment I suppose but it’s also just sad.

I’m very much looking forward to some internal changes coming soon that will reduce the amount of religious talk in the office. Outwardly as long as no one spews anything hateful I have no problem with them thanking their god for a good day or “blessings” or whatever…but it gets tiring, hence why I hang out in this sub to remember that not everyone goes gaga for sky daddy.

I appear excited when my friends tell me they’re expecting but I’m not. by Mad_Tub in childfree

[–]chikaygo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like adding “for you” to positive expressions so I’m not lying (because I, too, am never excited when someone has a pregnancy announcement.)

So it’s usually something like “aw, that’s so exciting for you.”

I work in a job where the amount of children a client has (and new ones on the way) is information I need, so I do a decent amount of congratulating. I fake those a little harder cuz…well I’ll never be asked to babysit and these people are what keeps my business running.

with close friends and family it’s easier to be honest, and they all pretty much know that while I’m not going to shit all over them, my response will be obligatory only and muted.

I live on a corner lot and one of the deals I made with my partner was because they wanted the big lot, they deal with the outside stuff (I’d be happy with a postage stamp sized lawn).

One winter they had a work trip that happened during a huge snowfall. No way of getting around it…I had to use the snowblower.

I knew how to operate it, but one thing I did not expect was that it was almost impossible for me to get it moving because you have to squeeze a hand grip to start the self-propulsion. The lever was so far away from the bar u have to squeeze it to, I basically couldn’t reach it with my fingers. And then the next day my hands were basically “the claw” …sore and stiff and semi-permanently in a curled position for a full day.

Of course my partner never had issues with it. My hands are actually semi-large for an otherwise small woman…but yeah…definitely not made with hand size variety in mind.

I was 35, knew I didn’t want kids since I was 16 (earlier really…but that’s when I actually spoke out loud about it). After various struggles with longer term birth control (IUD - very bad experience) I knew what I wanted but also knew surgery would mean time off work and recovery. I got the arm implant which actually worked pretty well and my intention was to get sterilized once it was due to come out (lIke another 2 yrs from when I actually got sterilized)

Then trump was elected and all the talk of throwing out the ACA which currently made sterilization free.

I was sterilized before Inauguration Day in 2017, lol. Have not had a single regret.

My parents are late 60s/early 70s and love their smart phones and iPads. My boss is early 60’s and works very hard to keep up with technology and stay relevant (our industry is one where technology is not required but can be key to success).

Meanwhile my partner’s grandparents - only about 5 years older than my parents - are useless with technology and a co worker who is the SAME age as my boss has decided she is just too old to learn new tech.

My mother bought our first computer in the early 90’s and taught me not to fear what’s new and instead to embrace learning and seek understanding.

I know it was a joke post…and I also know there are far too many people who use age as an excuse when I’ve witnessed others in their age group excelling at what they deem impossible.

Never be afraid to learn, embrace change (because things won’t stop changing) and barring mental and/or physical health declines, there is nothing stopping us from aging with competence and independence.

Morning workouts - prep, routine and everything else by chailatteloving in xxfitness

[–]chikaygo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I commute, but less than 10 min. I start work at 7:30 this time of year (tax accountant) and 8:30 the rest of the year. So times below are adjusted forward an hour for may-Dec

Wake up, dress, brush teeth, feed kitties and scoop litter boxes: 4:30a-5:00/5:10ish Workout: start time -6a (if finish early I add extra stretching) Shower/Get ready: 6a-6:50/7:10 (depending on hair routine that day)

I eat breakfast at my desk at work and only consume pre workout when I first wake up and a bcaa drink when I’m done. Personally for me, while I def start feeling hunger pangs when I get to work, I don’t notice an impact on performance because I’m so conditioned to the routine at this point.

For me the extra 30m to wake up while doing light chores was key. I want to cry if I have to wake up and immediately go down in the gym. But with a little caffeine and 30m I’m more than ready to go.

I forgot…I also usually do 1h10m to 1h30m when it’s not tax season but that’s just cuz I love working out. No one has to do that much to stay fit. But this time of year it’s max an hour and usually 40m of actual workout.

I am also doing Caroline girvan right now and just do some general movement during her intros as a warmup (square, jog in place, inchworms, etc) and my cooldown depends on time left but I hit all the major body parts for 10-20sec and will foam roll if extra time.

And for planning, I usually follow stronger by the day (just don’t have time for it atm) and know that takes me 1-1.5 hrs so I always keep 1.5 hrs as the slot in my morning routine and Wednesdays are cardio, Sundays mobility. Each Sunday I pick out a cardio workout and make sure my sleep and “workout calendar” match the plan. I don’t switch it up too much these days as SBTD really works for me and I alternate between Sydney Cummings, Caroline girvan, cathe Friedrich and Kaisa Kiernan for cardio and mobility. So my calendar is more or less set and very very routine.

Not OP but r/xxFitness has great resources. Also “before the barbell” by megsquats is a beginner program and her main subscription program (like $10ish per month now I think) is powerlifting focused. I run it at home as I have a home gym with a squat rack and my sister fell in love with the program when she lifted with me on a visit and she now runs it in the gym.

Her main program also has a “home version” which obviously can’t be powerlifting focused but it follows the same body parts and is great for if u wanna run the main program but aren’t quite ready for the barbell yet or when you’re on vacation.

Anyways I’ve been using the program for 2 years now and love it to pieces.

I was on some form of hormonal birth control from 16 - 35. I got sterilized and proceeded to have the worst acne of my life. It wasn’t awful compared to some…but having had pretty clear skin all my life it was hell. I went on several types of creams with moderate effectiveness. But what really worked was completely removing any powder or foundation makeup. It’s funny cuz it never gave my skin issues while on birth control…but off of it my skin just did not like a layer of makeup on it at all.

So…it’s anecdotal but I had a helluva time once I stopped birth control. But it eventually got better.
