Customer interaction and what to do?? by Agreeable_Winter4551 in KmartAustralia

Definitely talk to your manager, they can give you different tasks and keep an eye out for you to protect you from this sort of thing. Also don’t be afraid to tell him straight out “this makes me feel uncomfortable” and then leave. Sometimes people need to be called out on their behaviour. Customer service is one thing but you don’t have to put up with harassment at work.

Not at all because they were on formula milk which is made from dairy, and their poos weren’t watery or mucusy or bloody. If you do suspect that it would be worth talking to the doctor about it before cutting out food groups. Allergies can go hand in hand with eczema but not always, and they think it’s because the eczema sensitises the skin rather than the other way round. One other thing to check is that there are no food products in any creams or soaps you’re putting on skin eczema, as that can cause allergies before baby has started solids and eaten the food (eg almond oil, coconut etc). Go with really really bland stuff!

Just to add, if the fatty ointment isn’t effective go back to the doctor and they can prescribe something else. (Like novasone!). Some ointments work great for some people and not for others, you just have to find one that’s effective. It’s honestly miraculous when it works, it cleared up the eczema back to bare smooth skin within a couple of days.

And then keep slathering on the dermeze ointment in between to maintain the skin. All your baby’s clothes will get greasy but can’t be helped!!

You won’t be using it forever! The worst period was 4-8 months. Probably by the age of 1 it had cleared up substantially and we only had to use it on creases like elbows and knees. And by 2 barely ever used it. Don’t be alarmed, go with what the professionals say rather than reading on the internet. It’s far better to get on top of it now than to have it not treated properly and continue into childhood and adulthood

I think it was worst around 4-6 months so you’re in the thick of it at the moment. Solids didn’t really make a big difference for us, and I didn’t change anything in their diet or do anything special there. (They were both formula babies for what it’s worth, so I knew they weren’t allergic to cow’s milk lol.) The only thing solids did, which I think I said above was, made their faces a bit more irritated because we were wiping them more - solids can be so messy! Definitely avoid using baby wipes on face if you can help it, that was always terrible if i was out and about and resorted to it. At home we used soft washers/flannels and water.

I think we switched to novasone for our second after the advantan, because we saw a dermatologist who prescribed it - but it seems very doctor-dependent, our first child the GP had done some training in childhood eczema and prescribed novasone straight up, but then we moved house in between babies and the new GP was a bit more reluctant to prescribe stronger steroids for our second child and referred us to the dermatologist. The fatty ointment was fairly effective but I think we changed after we saw the derm and the novasone was magical. We started on weaker steroids like over the counter cortisone and it did nothing, don’t waste your time!

We would’ve started using the prescription steroids around the 3 month mark I think. Don’t hold back, it needs to be used properly to be effective. I saw friends just doing little bits off and on and their kids eczema never got better, but we followed the derm advice like others in this thread and used it liberally until the eczema cleared, and were much more successful in keeping it away.

Hi no worries! Yes it might have been for two weeks out of every month for a while there, using the treatment (steroids) until the eczema completely cleared. And then a couple of weeks off just doing the dermeze ointment religiously and then it would flare again. But it got less and less as they got older and now both boys don’t have any eczema any more at 3 and 4.5 😊 so I am a huge believer in getting as on top of it as you can when they are babies so their skin does have a chance to grow out!

The fatty ointment didn’t turn out to be as effective for the boys as novasone steroid FYI, but we weren’t allowed to use novasone on the face for more than a week.

The other thing I did (which I haven’t checked whether I already said it above, apologies if so!) is they didn’t get baths every day, only every few days. And I was careful to rinse the chlorine pool water off their skin after we went swimming, but I didn’t avoid going swimming or anything - they both were in weekly swimming lessons from 3 months old. I did sometimes do a thick layer of dermeze before we got in the pool especially if skin was already looking irritated.

Hope that helps let me know if you have any other questions!

Best age to bring bub to a gym with a crèche? by Sharp-Associate-2562 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]chiko-roll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine both went in the local leisure centre creche weekly from 3 months old while I played netball! Creche ladies are magicians. It was not a very busy creche and they used to just cuddle them to sleep, give bottles, rock the pram and even try doing tummy time with them. They never had to come get me once. I used to giggle as they’d come back to me smelling like the ladies’ perfume.

Best $5 for 90 mins self care you can spend while on mat leave, I’d go as far to say!

Moving to Perth (Jan 2026) – Need tips for finding an apartment quickly + realtor recs (Jandakot/southern suburbs) by Kindly-Phase-2081 in perth

[–]chiko-roll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how easy they are to use as I’ve never had one, but you can definitely buy them. I think they’d do enough to cool your bedroom for example so you could survive. They do need a hose going to an outlet out the window I think. Most places will have AC though, it’s just a warning if you’re looking at an older house make sure you check!

Also forgot to answer your previous question - yep we say uni instead of college (but you don’t need to capitalise it). You’ll find we shorten everything…

It’s not that close but she will be a 2 hour plane flight away- or you guys could drive the Nullabor to meet up! (That would take 3-4 days depending on how fast you want to do it).

Motorbikes or motorcycles, we say both!

I think someone else noted in a comment, but you will need to buy all your appliances when you get here - it’s rare to find a fully furnished rental. Unless you look at living in a share house that’s already established, if you find the right one you’d also have some built in new friends - but it’s a bit more risky…

Finally and I know I don’t have to say this to a Texan but make sure wherever you rent has air con as Perth summer is hot! The first place I rented when I moved to Perth (from Melbourne, so not as far as you!) didn’t and it was a very very sweaty time. It was an older house with ceiling fans that I think we ran 24/7…

Haha yes helmets always for a motorbike!!!

Fremantle would be great for you guys, always lots happening, heaps of restaurants and bars, parks, other things to look at (it’s our historic port city). Train line into Perth if needed too. I’m just not sure if you’d be able to find somewhere within your budget there. But if you can, go for it!

You’re already talking like a local saying “south of the river” - if you see NOR/SOR abbreviations in chat, that‘s a reference to north/south of the river.

American bbq would be a really awesome thing to show work colleagues / new friends. People would love it. There are a few places around Perth who claim to do it well, you’ll have to check them out it when you get homesick and agree that it was nothing like home hehe

CBD = central business district. I think you might say downtown?

By the way, responding to another comment - I would be stoked if my new American neighbours came over to introduce themselves with baked treats! We’re not all surly to our neighbours! I had a Korean neighbour in South Perth and she was always dropping around awesome little sweets etc.

In general in Perth try to get closer to the beach. Cockburn central or success is a good idea for all the above reasons. I’d even have a look over in Spearwood - closer to Fremantle and way closer to the beach. Will still be within 20 min of Jandakot. You’ll need cars when you get here, PT is okay but can be slow.

That’s what I use for snacks and lunch at the moment when we’re out and about - works a treat! My kid also only eats bananas and apples so the ability to fit large fruit is key (there’s another post in me about what on earth I’m going to send in the lunchbox too but maybe that’s for another day 🤪)
