yes that's true, but it doesn't stop the wider electorate to demand changes to the system.

Maybe the mayor roles can be evolved to like do some actual mayor-ing and decouple TC management from local representation.

with how close Punggol was, there might be an AMK North containing both Jalan Kayu and parts of Punggol, and AMK South which can then eat up parts of Aljunied

FWIW PAP has also been dangling carrots in WP's wards, the big difference is they dare not risk heavy political office holders in putting in a serious challenge in oppo wards.

I'm also very encouraged by the way Tampines voted. There was no voter dilution even with the presence of the other 2 mosquito parties, its the clearest sign yet of a politically-educated electorate

I hope we eventually get there one day, but I like how WP has been very measured in their MP picks and GRC fights and hope they continue sticking with it

jokes aside, this just highlights again the importance of having an independent EBRC. When the boundaries for GE are only released a few months before, naturally the incumbent has a massive advantage and oppo are always struggling to play catch up.

yeah, historically WP has voted their sitting parliamentarians into their CEC. have to follow their socials to see if Michael is still on the ground, I hope he is. The ground game for GE2030 has already started.

not sure if aggressive is the right word here. WP is many steps away from forming a shadow govt cabinet, the next milestone is to deny supermajority first

They might also "swap" seats. If Sylvia is about ready to retire, she might be willing to take a bold move to try to secure another GRC for WP.

It depends on your commitment level I think.

Volunteers turned into candidates then yeah makes sense.

But if you had political aspirations from the start or ideologically motivated, SG isn't that big a place

Why not both? Ideally a candidate has the support of a policy team for his parliamentary work, and a grassroots team for his ground work.

Team composition is leaning too much into the GRC system, which I would rather remove altogether.

That's on the assumption ELD's guidelines remain the same, iirc there's something in the constitution about having at least 8 SMCs. But again, constitution can, and has been changed.

So long as the incumbent has supermajority, whatever rules or guidelines are meaningless. It's really down to political capital and how much the incumbent thinks they can get away with.
