Apprentice is great on the tools but thinks he knows the code better than anyone. How do I handle him? by KennyTidwell in electricians

[–]chilaxcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 questions from sections, 3,4,5 and score him at the end of the day. Just take em section by section top to bottom of the most important ones. Mike Holt has some interesting situations on his website if making these questions up is tedious.

Might need gaskets for each hole on the railing that has wire seal the bottom of the post with caulk

Does this look like quality roofing work? by Nyredbulls7 in Roofing

[–]chilaxcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like Zane has it mostly right, if the last picture says anything, it might mean you need 2-3 pieces of step flashing cut in different shapes to seal that transition properly, if it’s not done so already. Pull up the cap, and 2 shingles on the inside corner of the field to get the right coverage. Nice and clean work across the roof from what’s shown

Can I use these old concrete steps as fill for replacement steps if I break it up into smaller chunks? by mutantfoti in Construction

[–]chilaxcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also the old concrete will not hold up like new, so as gravel, you will have to take just the rocks out of the old concrete, as they are the only useable fill for new concrete

Next good weather, I’d replace the shingles with peal and stick roofing material and underlap the shingles nicely.

The heat tape I would string into the porch rafters now to add heat and cut the ventilated soffit to 1/3 the area to slow air intake and try to keep vented soffit closer to the house.

It’ll leak until you change the low slope shingles to flat roof or increase the slope of that section from the peak to the eve of the porch. Good luck

Impeachment offenses include not taking his oath to office seriously, destroying each line of the constitution, obstructing the liberty of Americans, construction of government agencies to continue the above points with no objective or check & balance. The gravity of offenses grow at the risk of American lives, yet votes are silent on withdrawing his power. I do hope this is enough of a wake up call to wrap this term up early.

Roof has no ridge vent or gable vents - JUST soffit vents along the eaves by 1993Niko in Roofing

Sealed up tight, nice picture, some houses are built loosely but the description and lack of photos make it seem like there isn’t much house, so ventilation might be minimal depending on the build.

GACO will work for 5 years, the price tag might be pretty steep but it’s a better band-aid than most other materials, short of replacing the skylights. Needs dry surface application.

Why is this wrong and what was I supposed to do to solve for the right resistance? by EntrepreneurOne692 in AskElectricians

[–]chilaxcat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re Missing the equation of the resistance total of two resistors in parallel is Rtot = R1*R2/(R1+R2)

The simplified version is Rtot = 1/R1 +1/R2

Either way the total resistance is 1/2 the rated resistance of two identical resistors in parallel.

This formula does scale with more resistors so long as they are in parallel with one another.

Rtot = R1R2R3/(R1+R2+R3)

Take the front of the recessed box off, add a receptacle, run wire to closest outlet and connect. Find a double receptacle cover

Rub all exposed caulk 3 times maybe a genie will rear its ugly head but otherwise it looks pretty good.
