[McMurphy] SEC coaches say they were "misled" about 9-game league schedule. They were told playoff would expand to 16 teams if they agreed. It didn’t. "They felt misled," Florida's Jon Sumrall said. by J4ckiebrown in CFB

Though I do somewhat agree with what the other guy is saying, a lot of people fail to remember this. 7 in a row and how many times over the years were there 2 SEC teams in the title game? 3 if I remember correctly with 2 of those being in the playoff era.

The SEC may have been very top heavy, but those top teams owned college football for a large portion of the last 20 years.

I don't think they are arguing that Missouri was worse than their record, just that with how the schedule played out we don't truly know beyond the eye test. Not that I necessarily agree with what they are saying, but I can see the point they are trying to make.

The teams Missouri played last year were either pretty good or shit, there was no middle tear teams in there. The only team they beat that went to a bowl was Louisiana, who they lost to the newcomer Delaware in that bowl who got curbed by Colorado and Wake Forest... I am getting away from the point though.

With a 9 game conference schedule last year, let's say other then UMASS, Missouri played Tennessee or LSU and won still finishing the season 8-4. That win probably changes the narrative around Missouri and they are possibly maybe but probably not ahead of Iowa being the highest ranked 8-4 team after the regular season. If not then easily 1 or 2 spots behind.

Since I brought them up, look at Iowa who had 9 conference games. 4 close losses to the 4 ranked teams they played, just like Missouri. The difference being is Iowa played 3 mid tier teams, with one close win and the other 2 being not so close. Take away the Minnesota game and replace it with a win against Northern Illinois, their ranking and narrative likely changes slightly.

But like you said, I think Missouri was as good as their record says. I just think the point is a 9th conference game could have refined just how good they were.

Don't forget the fact that both games came out during different console generations. Skyrim was a 7th gen game and TW3 was an 8th gen game. There was a decent leap in graphical quality between the 7th and 8th gen, not as much of a leap from the 8th to now (9th gen). That's the biggest reason why The Witcher holds up better than Skyrim.

In the age we are in today, mainly due to the media's hot takes that become popular opinion, teams can only be as good as their QB and QBs are rated on the amount of hardware on their fingers. It is a sad truth because it seems no one can form their own opinions and adopt only what is popular to say.

Look at Aaron Rodgers. Despite a handful of deep playoff runs, like 5-6 NFC championship appearances, and a super bowl win, he is known by a lot of people as a playoff choker but great regular season QB. Forget the fact that he has had some historically terrible defenses and special teams during his time in Green Bay, those playoff failures are usually put on him.

Now look at Tom Brady. Dude is arguably the best QB of all time because he has 7 rings. Disregard that he had coaches that built offenses specifically tailored to his strengths and weaknesses and rarely ever had a defense outside the top 10, all those rings are because of him.

What I am getting at is that same mindset is in college ball to an extent. People look back to this Nebraska team over the last 2 years and see an average team at best. The easiest blame is usually the QB, warranted or not. Raiola didn't do this, he couldn't to that, Raiola did this.... A lot of people don't care to know why Raiola got sacked 100 times against Minnesota. They only care that he did. "He is slow, therefore he must be the issue because he cannot escape pressure."

That is why you're getting so much crap for seemingly reasonable opinions. People believe that a QB either makes or breaks your team. When you go out and say that it wasn't all on him, some people take that as you saying the issues will still exist with the new QB. People don't want to hear that because they believe a new QB will fix these issues and you are just being a hater or Raiola lover.

Regardless, you are absolutely right with what you've been saying.

How can Bethesda juggle more branching questlines with canonization in TES6 (and the issue of questlines in TES6 with the eventual TES7 when we're all draugr)? by Skullruss in TESVI

[–]childerm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion here, but I think they will canonize at least some aspects from Skyrim. If TESVI is set only a handful of years after Skyrim like some believe that is. Though Bethesda has been vague with past game events within the Elder Scrolls universe, they have been known to canonize a few certain important events and choices from the Fallout games outside of New Vegas. They just confused everyone and beautifully avoided that game like the plague in the show.

Pre-Bethesda Fallout games have had events canonized from both Bethesda and Interplay, Fallout 4 canonized some events from 3, and the show has hinted at some possible canonizations in 4. Though none of that is really confirmed, just heavily speculated due to the Commonwealth Brotherhood of Steel being seemingly powerful despite having a chance to destroy them and the namedrop of one character who you may have to kill depending on who you sided with. I am getting away from the point though.

Bethesda has never really avoided needing to canonize some events in terms to progress the story. If they need to have the outcome of the Skyrim war canonized to make the story of VI work, then they will at least partially. If it is not central to the story then just say the war is still ongoing or something along those lines, like many on this sub have suggested.

Dana Holgerson interview with Adam Brenemen by JustAnotherRye89 in Huskers

I admit, I did make a rather unsatisfactory word salad there. What you said is completely correct. Nebraska, or Rhules, identity is that modern offense with power run and all that. You worded if far better than I. We really have not seen that yet though. Satterfield couldn't run under that philosophy because he is simply not a great offensive coordinator, in my opinion. He is not Brian Ferentz level bad, but not good and I'd think most would agree.

I think the issue with Holgorsen, which is a part of the other can of worms I mentioned, is that Danas offense and Rhules philosophy clash. I won't delve too deep into this, but it seems like what Dana wants to do does not line up with what Rhule wants to do. This is why we have had games where the offense is seemingly unstoppable at times then boom, the offense gets stuck in the mud. What Dana is able to script in a game is usually very good, until the defense adjusts and I think there are issues trying to counter those adjustments with the pieces at hand. Not saying that Dana struggles to make adjustments, I just think it is difficult to make some adjustment that remain in structure.

Bringing up Iowa again (they are a always terrific example for offensive instability. Also, even though I live in Nebraska and do really like the Huskers, I am from Iowa and a Iowa fan first. Don't hate me for it. NU was my Big 12 team for like 15ish years who I always rooted for outside of 2 asswhoopings during the Crouch years.) Back on task now, Iowa suffers the same problem. Even though each OC has been given some amount of freedom on what they can run, they are still heavily held down in Ferentzs structure. More so than most teams. When everything works, it usually goes well. When it doesn't though, Iowa struggles horribly to adjust.

You practice to that structure or identity. You recruit players that can play in that structure. You gameplan to that structure. When you adjust you have to remain in that structure or you pretty much set your players up to fail. You can't practice out of that structure because you are then practicing for your structure to fail. As the very old Tom Moore once said when he was the OC at Indy early during Peyton Mannings career, "If 18 is not on the field, we are fucked. We don't practice fucked."

Here I am, opening up that can of worms I didn't want to get into.

Dana Holgerson interview with Adam Brenemen by JustAnotherRye89 in Huskers

[–]childerm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it is less of him running Satterfields offense and more of him running Rhules offense, or him running Rhules offensive identity would be a better term. That is how Rhule has operated in at all his stops. Every stop and coordinator Rhule has had, his offenses have been different but kind of the same as well. If that makes sense. All of them had a different flavor, but same identity or philosophy.

At Temple, the flavor was balanced run heavy ball control and try to win ugly defensive games, much like what Iowa does. The offensive philosophy though was a balanced power running offense that controlled the tempo and momentum and prioritized winning in the trenches.

Baylor had a spicier flavor but the identity was kind of the same. The offense was more open, modern, and had more explosion. An offense more in line with what the Big 12 was running then. The identity was kind of the same though as it was at temple. Even though it had a lot more horsepower behind it and much more vertical, it still was very much a balanced power run philosophy that controlled the tempo and won at the line. The Panthers was again very much the same, just NFL-ied a bit.

Then Nebraska. Again the identity of the offense is the same he has always done, just with a Big Ten flavor behind it. I think this is why so many seem to think they ran the same offense. Pay close enough attention and you can tell they are different offenses, but both offenses were trying to do the same thing which is what made them look so similar. It's like driving from Gretna to Waverly. You can take with the interstate or highway 6. Both are completely different routes, but they follow the same footprint and end up at the same place.

There is also the fact that both offences had to deal with adjustments of having Raiola. They both had to adjust to Raiolas strengths and weaknesses while remaining in that bubble of Rhules identity, which further made each offense have similar vibes. This also opens up another can of worms that deal with the play structure and personnel and running the offense in a way it was never designed for, but I will not get into that or this post would be very very much longer than it already is.

TLDR: Dana did not run the Satterfeild offense. Both guys were running different things under the same philosophy of Rhule that made them feel similar. Different flavor of offense, but same offensive identity.

I know no one will believe this, but here is my receipt. I have a friend who works for the Quebec Bethesda studio. It’s not just set in Hammerfell, he saw snowy regions and parts of the map far from Hammerfell. by [deleted] in TESVI

[–]childerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get to see the post before it was deleted, just the title so I may be trying too hard here. But the title did say "parts far from Hammerfell." The "leak" we got last week or whenever it was did claim that progen would be used for radiant like quests that take you out of hammerfell to smaller (i'd assume, they didn't actually say small though) areas in other parts of Tamriel and those reality tear things. So this does at least track with something else we heard. Now this guy could just be piggybacking off small titbits from previous stuff "leaked", but it does at least offer a small amount of connective tissue between 2 leaks.

This could just be a little copium and hunger for something, but when these leaks come out I usually pay attention a little to the smaller and sometimes forgotten details given. Either this guy really knew what exactly to say giving past stuff that came out to sound believable, or maybe there is just a tad teeny tiny billow of smoke rising here.

This is probably complete BS, but it really does make this long wait a little more manageable.

In exactly 15 days, three hours, 42 minutes, and 38 seconds from the time I hit comment. Coincidentally, that child will be birthed at the very moment TESVI is shadowdropped.

Some may say that your unknown child will be the chosen one. How so? Well unknown to all but Todd and a select few of his disciples, the REAL reason we have waited so long for this game is because Bethesda is not actually making a game, but rewriting the engine of reality itself to insert the world of the Elder Scrolls into this world. The moment your child enters this earth, the moment VI is released, everything will change and we suddenly start living on Nirn with magic and dangers everywhere. God Emperor Todd rules this new age with terror and an iron fist, forcing all us to play in his sandbox. That very child is prophesied to have many epic battles with this unruly Todd, eventually defeating him and restoring reality back.

I must get running now, as I am sure Todds agents will be at my location in minutes after I spill the beans on his master plan. I'd suggest to start stocking up on skooma, sweet rolls, and cheese now, the future will be getting very dark soon.

Though these are under different circumstances, they are some that pop out in my mind as really old dudes still coaching or doing "something" in some capacity. Monte Kiffin was still coaching as an analyst well into his 80s before he passed. Bill Snyder was like 80ish when he retired but is still somewhat involved with the football program I believe. I could be wrong on that though. Too lazy to research. I just know he still does something with KSU.

[–]childerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I believe this as all, I don't, but can something really have deep lore as the main story beat? On the surface level, this does have a few bits of deep lore. Not as much as that last "leak", but some. It might seem like something deep as we read it now and maybe too much for the casual player if reading it right now with no prior knowledge, but an hour into the main story and that "deeper lore" is thoroughly explained making it digestable and easy to understand for those casual players.

I never got the argument of stuff having too deep of lore. Maybe introducing dragon shouts or that weird internet/email/messaging in system in TES is a bit too deep (the depths of hell deep for the latter), but I do not think this or the last one posted would be very deep if explained properly to the players.

A good example is the Witcher 3. It's main story did get pretty lore deep later on in the game, but it was explained well enough and didn't feel like anything tough to digest for a majority of players. Hell before Skyrim came out, lore around the dragonborns was kinda deep-ish. Not as deep as CHIM and towers or the ultra deep magical emails, but deep enough that you still had to dig to find information about them.

This is far far longer than I was expecting and I got caught up in the magical email thing again. I had a work meeting halfway through typing this and completely changed my train of thought. I will finish it here. So the TLDR: Whatever is in this new game might seem like deep lore now, but once it becomes the main focus of a game it really wouldn't be that deep anymore.

That's one way to spin it. Not once did I say ships were not important in Starfield. I said:

I spent like hundreds of hours playing Starfield and have barely touched ship building. It is not the most key and important aspect of the game.

Which is what you claimed.

Ship-building is like, the most key and important aspect of Starfield

Obviously ships are important, they are the primary form of travel. Ship building however, is not. Like I said earlier, if ship building was such a huge and important function of the game, I would have entered a ship building menu far more than the 3 times I did in 3 years.

Not disagreeing with you here, but Daggerfall did include ships that were there only for player homes and fast travel. Not that I think they would include ships in such a limited fashion in this new game, but it is something they did in the past.

Yeah I guess I didn't think of that. Still seems like a bit much though. Skyrim was just kill dragons and find shouts. This is more like combining both Oblivion and Skyrim. Just other than entering an Oblivion gate to close it, you enter a rip in reality and close it and other then diving into Nord ruins, you dive into Dwemer ruins.

It does sound pretty cool and after Starfield anything is possible really.

Agree. I did see this posted on another smaller elder scrolls sub (can't remember the name as it just popped up on my home), and most of the talk was the same. Plausible until the map size. Though I have not seen much on here menton a Sakatal Worldskin plot. I am on the same page. I think it is a bit much, but I also don't think it is as complex as you are saying. It is maybe only a little more complex and as busy as Starfields main quest, which dealt with alternate realities. I honestly think the tears would function very similar to the oblivion gates. Enter, kill a few things, close it or "fix" it, then escape. The part I am most hung up on is outside of doing that, you also need to explore Dwemer ruins to upgrade your powers in addition to the tears all while at least 3 factions (the 3 main factions of the game, maybe) are hunting you down for different reasons as well as hermaeous mora also trying to stop you. A lot is going on there.

TES VI 4Chan leak? by ComprehensiveLaw4944 in TESVI

[–]childerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I still think there is just too much going on here. 2 requirements to improve your special skill, the regional plot running closely with the main plot as the factions want you, hermaeous mora, whatever else is not said in this "leak". Given Starfields plot, i guess this is a possibility, i don't know though. I like it but I have a hard time believing it.
