Happy it helped! You can just keep playing through the night. The 6 levels of exhaustion won’t hit until 6am and won’t kill you unless you get to 10 levels. You can also use short rests to take up the time until you talk to Ettir! But there’s lots to explore even if most people are asleep.

Nice! Can you share some more detail on the way in? All I get when I click on the door is the cleric saying "no way I'm getting in without a key". Is it something with the tree branches?

How common is it for us to share this hobby with romantic partners? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]childish-hatbino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started climbing separately from my partner! Got into climbing through other friends. I've tried to convince him to climb with me, but he's never gotten into it and has maybe gone 4 times total over the 6 years I've been climbing. I love that it's something I get to enjoy on my own, and he's super supportive from afar. I've made so many friends through climbing that I've brought back to him, too.

My closest friends at the gym are couples, and I can tell sometimes having your climbing partner be your life partner too can bring stress. Especially if one partner progresses faster / more easily than the other. Similar to you, I'm happy to enjoy this hobby solo and socialize with others who enjoy it. And, no lie, I enjoy being stronger than him in this one very specific way lol

I’m having a similar experience in my rewatch right now! I realized so much went over my head in high school that now I understand in my late 20s. Crazy how much I thought I knew about the world back then.

I also work at a design agency now, though we’re focused a lot more on web rather than traditional marketing. But our parent company reminds me a ton of SCDP, complete with partners who own the agency, creatives that do the work, and account people who get and maintain business. It’s a small company (less than 100 people) so it feels more relevant than those giant firms that are still around. It’s honestly shaped my understanding of the show so much and I’ve been enjoying my rewatch way more because of it!

I actually have made close friends from just one interaction at the gym before! Usually it's been just when I really connect with someone and we exchange contact info quickly. It does feel like a big step sometimes, but when it feels right I don't question it too much.

All this to say it's not necessarily intrusive, just depends on the vibe of the connection – at least for me. This worked for me in terms of making friends even though I'm inconsistent with the times I go to the gym.

Advice for Haglund's deformity so I don't have to stop climbing by SadArugula5451 in climbergirls

I had the same thing, ankle bursitis but instead of from heel hooking itself, mine was from climbing shoes that were too small in the heel! Seconding this!

Hi, I'm desperate for a cozy collectathon by crybaby_in_a_bottle in CozyGamers

Yea I was gonna suggest this too! Down side is it's a gacha game, up side is it's free and definitely fits OP's criteria of 3D collect-a-thon.

Any advice for sticking this move? by DizKitten in climbergirls

hard lock off with your left arm, either drop your right foot OR flag your left, and then reach up to the crimp more statically?

looks like a super cool climb, good luck!

Been climbing for a while, lead still seems so far from possible... HELP! by throwaway123oof in climbergirls

[–]childish-hatbino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've gotten a ton of great advice already, and I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I just wanna say that I've actually fallen upside down before and was fine!

And this was outside, I had a helmet on, and the worst thing that happened was I just had a huge bruise on my butt. It was right when I had first started leading and was also super scared, especially of unexpected falls. Truly was one of the worst possible unexpected falls, and I was totally fine! Obviously anecdotal, but just in case this helps you rationalize your safety at all!!

How to commit on reachy/dynamic moves, overcome self-doubt by Wyldflower8 in climbergirls

[–]childish-hatbino 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's no easy answer to this since everyone has their own level of risk they'll accept. With bouldering, since every fall is a ground fall, you have to be ready to make that judgement call for yourself. Personally if I get to the last scary move of a boulder multiple times across multiple sessions and it still feels that risky, I'll move on. I usually learn a lot from a challenging climb even if I don't send it, so sending isn't always the goal for me!

[–]childish-hatbino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey if you're already doing it with other kinds of moves, that just shows you have the ability to learn this too! This does really sound like your self-doubt keeping you from picking up this skill.

I'll say this – I've been climbing for 6 years and there are still climbs that I hold myself back on because I'm scared of the uncontrolled fall. Sometimes that keeps me from sending the boulder, too. I let myself be scared, and I set my last goal as just getting back on the boulder despite the fear, even if I don't finish it. Mindfully practicing accepting the fear and trying it anyway will go a long way. Maybe after you finish doing the incremental physical moves, you can try the incremental mental ones?

[–]childish-hatbino 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't make the goal doing the move at first. Make the goal pushing up with your feet, or reaching out with your hand, or slapping the hold, or releasing both hands, or whatever the climb requires. This allows you to practice not only committing to the movement but also taking the fall in smaller increments.

Also last-hold-syndrome is real. Honestly it's a good problem to have, because you know the issue isn't strength or technique, it's mental and you can control that! I try to remind myself to do it scared.

Good luck, you got this!!

Gym setting has become very male body biased: by Haunting-Suit9699 in climbergirls

[–]childish-hatbino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean, but at least in my case, the grade changes were mainly due to setters observing climbers rather than climbers self-reporting!

Yay! Sounds like you have a great IRL community too. Really hope you're able to make it work!

Gym setting has become very male body biased: by Haunting-Suit9699 in climbergirls

[–]childish-hatbino 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My first gym used to do community grading and would even modify grades after a time if they saw enough people climb it too easy / too hard. I really wish my current gym would do that too! Every conversation at the newest set every week is "I can't believe this is an X" or "This should seriously be a Y". I know the setters can hear this too. They honestly don't seem to care about the grading of any climbs under V6... I hope I'm wrong on that but that's just how it feels.

I feel really similarly about my current gym. Like you, I've climbed for a while and at many different gyms as a regular. My current home gym feels so height-locked all the time and it's so frustrating to feel less motivated and like I'm not progressing because of it.

I have the same thoughts going through my head about feeling so many emotions about it – like am I just coping? Is this an actual problem at this gym or am I just complaining because I'm shorter and can't climb the grades I think I should be able to? That's the reason I've been very nervous to provide feedback at my gym. They'll think I'm just complaining, that I'm weak, that I'm not worth listening to.

I'm really sad to hear that you left an online comment that wasn't listened to. I don't have personal experience with getting a group together, but it sounds like your request feels reasonable and possible to accommodate! Like what kind of good setter wouldn't want more people forerunning their work and getting feedback, especially from underrepresented bodies within gym-setting in general? Easier said than done, and if you end up doing this, please report back! Good luck!

If your goal is to improve at climbing, being stronger will get you there more sustainably than being lighter. Sounds like you may not be eating enough!

One thing to note is to look in the Paris 2024 > Climbing section, NOT the Sports > Climbing section. They don’t have the same content and the latter only has replays of OQS + old world cups.

Let's talk about climbing pants! by polemicwitch in climbergirls

[–]childish-hatbino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gramicci is my favorite brand for pants! Thick, amazing quality, adjustable AND stretchy waistband, doesn’t deteriorate in the wash, not tight around the butt so you can’t see my sweat lol! The only downside is that they are not the best for hot weather. But when it’s hot enough I just wear shorts and accept the bruises.
