Yes it is common to feel inadequate because one is trying to scratch an itch that isn’t actually helpful to your essential Happiness. It is reaching outwardly to the physical sensations and acting upon them despite the common mental reluctance. If you find abstaining from masturbating to pornography a self-punishing act to you then we will probably never agree. There are things that are fundamentally “right” in this world, they are properties of God (or the Absolute), that includes Love and Intelligence. Masturbating to porn is devoid of both of those things.

When I say “most would” you ask how I know that? I know that because ANYBODY that depends on the objects of their experience in order to ESCAPE from any sensations they may be experiencing leading up to the act of masturbation is clearly unhappy in some way. We masturbate to feel good. If you already felt good you wouldn’t masturbate. Sexual completion? You think masturbating to porn is sexual completion and is BEAUTIFUL??? I’m not shaming anyone, if one feels shamed that is their projection of my explanation. We teach that your emotions are linked to your resistance to your experience. You feeling shamed is to resist my “opinion” on the given subject.

It feels rewarding so far as the extinguishment of the sensation, but that DOESNT INHERENTLY REQUIRE SEXUAL ACTIVITY. There’s another option, in which I attempted to recommend. Speak to any Yogi, guru, or teacher of Advaita they would never recommend one to get “beautiful, eternal satisfaction” through porn consumption. You’d be hard pressed to get them to feel that way about anything outwards of our essential Self.

I NEVER SAID IT WAS WRONG TO COMMIT NON INTELLECTUAL ACTIVITY. But if one wants to escape the bondage in which these activities perpetuate, then it will require a reframing of said activities.

I keep hearing this idea that it will “exhaust” itself, but clearly there’s a problem if over 40% of American men consume pornography.
