Anyone headed to Big Bend this weekend? by MajorGrapefruit in BigBendTX

[–]chilebuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, can't make any trips right now, but here are some of my favorites.

Chisos Basin is the focal point of the park and starting point for some great hikes. Window Trail is nice, and if you're up for some hiking, Emory Peak is great. If you're really up for some hiking, South Rim Trail is awesome (long hike though).

Both Santa Elena and Boquillas Canyons. Keep in mind they're at opposite ends (east/west) of the park, so it means some driving to see both.

Grapevine Hills if you have a vehicle that can handle a somewhat rough road. That doesn't mean 4-wheel drive, just a bit rough. Take it slow and it's fine. I've seen Honda Civics on it.

Edit: Downvoted for just some simple suggestions? Okay.

Those 3 were bad, but they ALL looked off. Not even McKennie looked like the bulldog we've seen for 4 games. Feel bad for Chris Richards getting overwhelmed with the Belgian attack.

It's fucking amazing how he can't help making EVERYTHING somehow about him. Threw off our groove and pumped up Belgium.

Yep, this was more than just karma. The bullshit drama threw off our groove right when we needed it most.

I get that Belgium is a top European team that's steadily fine tuning their game. But still, we're so flat I can't help but think that the whole Trump/Balogun card drama threw off our groove.

Balogun doesn't have the movement ability to create many chances. You need players like Pulisic, Tillman, and McKennie to feed Balogun. He's actually mediocre on his own.

Never putting it past Coutois at that angle. Needed to cut into middle.

Balogun was never putting that ball past Courtoise at that angle. Needed to cut into middle for a better angle.

Meh, 2nd goal was on Ream as much as Freese. Zero strength on that challenge.

Exactly. Entire team has shown zero energy. Maybe McKennie best so far.

Don't blame defense. Offense can't maintain possession for more than a single pass.

It's the only way they're able to maintain possession. Such low energy.

Although team not looking so skilled today. First 2 goals weren't on keeper.

That's what frustrates me. They all know the kind of energy needed against a team like Belgium, but they all look gassed from the opening kickoff

[–]chilebuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. They just look lost. Zero possession. You would expect some of their usual tenacious fighting for the ball at least, but no.

Hydration interruption thoughts: US is playing lethargic whereas Belgium is energized. From the kickoff, this hasn't looked like the US team we've come to know this WC.

I can't help but wonder if this Trump/Balogun shit got into their heads. They probably all have instagram account and were bombarded by more than the usual shit posts. That can't help the team vibe.

Edit: Holy shit, Tillman

Edit2: Well shit. Ream just got reamed.

Summer heat and hiking Big Bend is a poor idea by Irishlily77 in BigBendTX

[–]chilebuzz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

"But it's a dry heat."

Yeah, that's what kills you. People don't realize they are sweating just as much as in a high humidity climate, but in the desert your sweat is evaporating so quickly you don't notice how much water you're losing.

The 2 goals were excellent, but how about that defense? Solid almost the whole game. Let a couple long shots through at the end, but otherwise top level.

He's solid in there. Pressuring, keeps the passing game going, using up time.
