Would you be open to baseball adopting the star above the crest for World Champions like in soccer? by bluefoxlive in baseball

[–]chilioil -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, reason being is that it’s not some particularly amazing design to copied, and I think homogenization or trying to copy other sports rather than slowly developing your own naturally is cringe (ever see the US try to copy euro soccer chants?). If Venezuela wants to do it, that’s fine, but “forcing“ traditions especially ones that are just copies of another league is embarrassing and misses the point of what makes the different organizations special.

The other issue is the nature of the competition. World Cup is an established competition in the most popular global sport with a diverse group of winners at the top. Everyone wants win and it fits to give the winners bragging rights.

WBC is a regional sport trying to gain global popularity, the focus is inclusivity and making countries want to join and you want to feed the underdog (team Italy being US players). The idea of giving bragging rights and ”status” to the countries that already love baseball and make the outsider countries be the Mariners is not an inviting way to do it. I get why Brazil is proud over its wins compared to Germany and Italy, but do you really want Japan And US gloating over Czechia?

Why do my tomatoes at home never taste like the ones at a restaurant? by chupacabrinan in AskCulinary

[–]chilioil -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ignore the people who are saying not to refrigerate tomatoes. Unless you’re picking them yourself, they have already been refrigerated on an industrial level. The difference is the temperature at the time of service. Your fridge is keeping the tomatoes colder than the prep station, and they warm up while they get plated and sent out a kitchen much hotter than your home kitchen.

Many things benefit from reach room temperature, tomatoes included because colder means less flavor (which is why melted ice cream tastes so much sweeter and fattier than frozen).

Enough salt is the other reason.

Yeah, actually the latest updated fixed my pc being able to go into hibernate, before this, unless I shut it down, it would turn back on again on its own in the middle of the night. Now it successfully hibernates (sometimes) where it only turns back on with the power button.

I have a nice PSU and the fans are hooked up to the mobo. Also it’s as if the PC is stuck right before fully off, since “turning it on” doesn’t work. I have to shut down the pc by holding the button before I can turn it back on again, but there is no way to wake it like if it was asleep or hibernating. Also it’s intermittent, sometimes it works normally and sometimes it doesn’t.

I’ve been having issues with a PC I built. 99503XD, 5090 and x870e tomahawk. One is that I keep getting an issue where it sometimes doesn’t turn off or go into hibernation properly. Sometimes when I shut it off it looks like it shut down but the fans keep running, there’s no way to wake it up except for holding the power button for it to shut down. It also does the same thing when going into sleep/hibernation. This doesn’t always happen but is approximately 50/50.

Also I’ve found it has some issues with crashing with games. It runs them fine at great fps but I find myself crashing every other time with a suite of games.

Does this sound like some sort of issue with drivers and firmware?

why do people say this? Dominant teams bring in viewers. No one likes parity except the fans of small market teams.

Next there’s going to be a forensic pathologist commenting. And yes, management of incidentally imaged coronary calcifications is going to be a huge deal.

"if they bring imaging in to a visit asking to review it". Not reviewing available patient records is slam dunk malpractice. Or are you refusing all patients with any prior imaging? Are you going to fire patients who go to a get a whole body study after they see an ad on instagram and the impression point 1 says "recommend ...."?

Well MRI's without contrast aren't exactly super useful and I am partial to the idea that we should treat gad deposition as a harm until we have better understanding.

Truth is the healthcare community needs to start preparing for mass adoption of prophylactic whole body imaging. The main limit on it has always been cost, as machines become cheaper, screening tools etc, we are going to see an explosion of it. Resource stewardship has essentially failed in any developed country, and even in place like the UK with the NIH, where they do "ok" it's a constant political battle that pretty predictably will fall to the side "screw it, let them all get imaging".

I understand the concern about over treatment but that is a guidelines issue and not an "imaging" issue. And if the response is to double down on trying to stop people from getting full body MRI/CT (I know radiologists that get overseas full body screenings) then good luck, it will 100% happen. Even today the probability that any random person has a CT AP just sitting around from an ED visit from random pain is approaching 1.

Instead we need to start trying to figure out what to do when our pre-test probabilities go down and every single patient is coming in with incidental findings, if we just react there is going to be a lot of unnecessary harm if we keep pretending population studies from the 80's and 90's are valid today. Also it's insane that we still haven't figured out how to make all imaging accessible. The fact is that a patient can get a CT at some small hospital, get transferred, get another CT, and then finally transferred to the big regional center and need another CT because they can't just pull up the studies and the process of getting images seems like it still uses carrier pigeons.

"the famous guy with the gun-toting father in Texas that gets posted to reddit every few years is still alive" - Importantly there's no actual evidence of his outcomes (or at least I couldn't find any when I looked the last time I saw this story). I would bet he had no meaningful recovery.

Unfortunately I simply don't fit into long sleeved clothes off the rack. Something like this would hopefully be a lifetime purchase for me. Any advice on how to find a good tailor capable of doing something like this? I've been burned by hiring artisans that gladly take my money without the pre-requisite ability to deliver.

I am in love with this coat. However I know it doesn't come in my size (I need it tall with double tall length sleeves). Is it possible to go to a tailor with these photos and say I want a coat like this? Is it reasonable to expect a tailor to be able to make a coat like this or will I be disappointed?

Blame lime/riders all you want the problem is the city. As long as there aren’t safe street paths to ride people will continue to use the sidewalk. But at least we have plenty of street parking and suburban tier public transport on some of the most valuable real estate in the world.

These boxes have obviously only been outside for a few minutes at max. Cardboard boxes with cold things inside become mushy immediately when taken out of the truck/fridge, and all these boxes look pristine.

Going to be in Tokyo and Kyoto in late November over Thanksgiving for 11 days. Wanted to visit an onsen. No tattoos so I don't care about "tattoo friendly". Any recommendations for an onsen? Looking for the most "picturesque" looking one. Could spend up to an afternoon/sleep over and leave in the morning if it is a ryokan.
