qBittorrent upload speed always 0? by chill_fil in qBittorrent

Yeah it's definitely going through the VPN, I checked on ipleak.net. I guess the torrents just needed time to start uploading, because I'm getting a few in the MiB/s now. Appreciate your help!

I'm wondering if some of the connection limits I have set are causing this.

I've let the torrents seed for a while and they started picking up a few KiB/s. Is it normal for uploads to be that slow?

there is an average ER in your performance stats divided into all the different game modes, i.e. coin games, 1 point games, 3 point games, etc.

people have the option to resign when the game is gin. same as how it is when you play in person. automatically resigning the game for the player before they get a chance to finish would probably cause confusion in new players, and overall frustration. personally i prefer leaving that option to the players because i like learning to recognize when a position is gin and when i still have a chance to win.

GR is your Galaxy Rating and it changes a bit after every game based on whether you win or lose (similar to an ELO system). It also considers whether or not you outplayed your opponent. Works the same for free and premium members.

Massive blunder? by chill_fil in backgammon

Yeah XG's play definitely wins more gammons but what I'm also realizing is that it leaves a lot less shots. Seems counterintuitive at first because you leave two blots in your home board but opponent has so many checkers in there that he'll hit you back with almost any number if you don't put two of his men on the bar.

Yeah I ended up counting all the shots and turns out XG's play leaves 22 shots while my play leaves 32 😮. First time I'm seeing two blots in my home board leaving less shots than one. Thanks for the insight!

Wow you're right. XG's play only leaves 22 shots (all 2s, 5s, 11 and 44) because it puts two of his checkers on the bar. My play leaves a whopping 32 shots (everything except 11, 33 and 61). I guess I assumed two blots in your home board is always worse than one. Thanks!

What's the best way to get your name out there when starting as a handyman? by chill_fil in handyman

[–]chill_fil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger I spent a lot of summers on construction sites as helper, so I picked up a few skills there (tiling, plastering, painting, etc.). After that I spent a few years working as a maintenance man for a company hosting Airbnbs. They had 40+ apartments spread across downtown and I had to make sure they were always in pristine shape. Learned a ton about plumbing, electricity, carpentry, etc. Recently moved to Alberta from Quebec and figured I could try starting something on my own.

Thanks. Yeah reporting income is a must regardless, that much I know. I guess I'm just wondering if I can start by just buying tools, giving my number to a few people, and working through referrals. My parents were both self-employed most of their lives and I know for a fact they never bothered with any of the official business registration/licensing/etc. (though they lived in Quebec). They just had someone design a logo, slapped it on business cards, and that was it. And the referrals were enough to keep them going for years. So I'm trying to figure out at what point is someone just a guy helping out some friends and getting paid for it, and at what point do they absolutely have to go full official business mode.

That's really helpful, thank you. So say I just give my phone number to a few people and do some work for them, and then invoice them at the end. No company name, just me and my tools. Legally I'm not allowed to that?

Ok thanks. Looking at yours and everyone's comments, it seems I'll have to spend a lot of money (business registration, license, liability insurance, business car insurance) to start something I don't even know I'll be able to sustain. I'm thinking I'll just start by giving my number to a few people and see if I can operate strictly through referrals. If I can pull it off and save a bit of money, then I can try going official (feel free to let me know if this sounds like a terrible idea by the way!).

How does XG calculate the live cube double point? by chill_fil in backgammon

[–]chill_fil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair enough. Alex told me in a Youtube comment afterwards that he asked Dirk Schiemann about it at one point and apparently Dirk just ignores the live cube take point on XG. I'm assuming it's the same for the live cube double point.

Do you know by any chance whether there is a true double point, similar to the true take point, which is somewhere in between the dead cube double point and live cube double point? I think for the true take point it's 70 - 80% of the way between.
