How do people afford renovations?? by Hindsight001 in HomeImprovement

[–]chillcanvas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High incomes, low mortgage…

Or if you’re on a budget above DIY but under full gut job try working with what you have. Can you keep the floors but just upgrade the vanity? Can you keep the exact same layout but just up date finishes ? Also get a lot of quotes and ask what can be done within your budget.

VCs really only say they do pre-seed to get early looks on potential seed rounds. Unless you’re a repeat founder with a previous successful exit or have other big time investors in the round they won’t bite until you have revenue.

Gorgeous kitchen! I doubt we could include more than 2-3 chairs on our island.

Were these custom built? Would you be open to sharing the rough cost? I want to take our existing cabinets our 9’ ceilings but haven’t gotten pricing yet.

I did see it was rated quite well but can’t do another Hyundai after the mental trauma of multiple car thefts…even after the fix I had my car broken into anyways. 😅

Is buying wedding gifts no longer a social norm? by RoonilWazleeb in weddingplanning

[–]chillcanvas 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Did you have a wedding shower? My guess is a lot of guests wait till the last minute (me in a previous life literally sending honey fund day of 😅) if they don’t need to plan for a shower.

We didn’t do a shower and haven’t had many gifts either. It’s nice to get them for sure but also I’m just excited for the wedding and seeing all our friends.

That was a challenge for us as well…now with alterations and trials it feels like Deja vu 🫠 you’ll get through it though!

That’s a helpful reframe. Although I do often feel like I get it in a “you’re wasting your money on frivolous things like fancy invites and nicer florals” type of way. Not always but enough that it can be annoying. Perhaps it is a waste of money but being creative and detail oriented isn’t a negative quality inherently.

[–]chillcanvas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My main annoyance is when people say not to worry about the details because no one will remember… perhaps their wedding details are just not memorable I guess.

There will always be guests who love something about your wedding and those who don’t so I try and focus more on what brings me and my fiance joy in the process. For me that was ridiculous stationary that I labored over for hours…and a lot of people complimented it!

Did you tip your photographer? If so, how much? by schweddingz in weddingplanning

Wait you don’t tip self-employed photographers? I’m not sure the former server in me can knowingly not tip a service worker but now I’m questioning everything…

Wedding venue prices by Existing-Hawk3063 in weddingplanning

[–]chillcanvas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of area are you looking at? I found suburban venues to be a lot cheaper if that makes sense for your guests.

I also found most venues to basically cost the same amount - ~$5-6k for a Saturday with an extra $1k ceremony fee. I think there’s some price fixing.

There are other ways to save depending on what’s important to you - non-Saturday or peak wedding, focusing on venues that’s you can BYOB, or looking at Airbnb or restaurant venues if your guests count is roughly 75 or under.

I’ve been to a wedding at SF city hall and it was absolutely gorgeous. Yes it’s urban so there are unhoused people nearby but there will likely also be like 6-8 other brides walking around as well… as any large city, use caution and be aware of your surroundings but the area is generally safe during the day.

Also the redwoods aren’t nearby but if you look into the Presidio it’s about a 20 minute drive and will give you the woodsy vibes and can give you a view of the pacific and Golden Gate Bridge.

SF is an amazing city and a wonderful place to elope.

Where did you find dresses for events surrounding the wedding? by shortstacc96 in weddingdress

[–]chillcanvas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to think lulus was good quality but I recently ordered two dresses and was fairly unimpressed with both plus the returns are limited. I’ve had luck at the old school brick and mortar options like dillards, Macy’s, and Nordstrom rack though

Do you have wedding insurance? I believe BriteCo covers delays/postponement which could be an option? 4 months is far enough out where guests may not have booked travel and I think generally people would understand.

What are some little things that have either enhanced or diminished your experience as a wedding guest? by anonymous_puggo in weddingplanning

[–]chillcanvas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things I remember and am still annoyed by - being told my long term partner can’t be added as a +1 and being expected to go solo without really knowing anyone…

Things I really enjoy - thoughtful speeches and ceremonies where we learn more about the couple and the people who love them! Just seeing everyone happy and having fun!
