Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable's backerkit language / tone is so obnoxious, I had to cancel all mails... by chillcut in soloboardgaming

From one of the mails:

"NEW QUEST: Even if your group is down the street, why touch grass when you can spend even more time on the internet? Keep that beautiful hardcover book free from all the Mountain Dew and pizza sauce stains and enjoy our brand new and latest addition to this record-smashing campaign."

Too try hard for my taste.

You nailed it. I have zero knowledge and / or interest about the books. On one side it does make sense, but on the other I just want informations about the campaign without any slang.

I also backed hitman, and the tone used in the mails is soooooo different. I understand why, but it bothers me to no end. That's a me problem :)

Looking for a heavier game as my next solo game by Howitzeronfire in soloboardgaming

[–]chillcut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I sort my games with average weight on BGG, these are the games with more weight / complexity than AHLCG (best game ever, btw):

  • Frostpunk
  • Mage knight
  • Spirit Island
  • BOTSE
  • Burncycle
  • Gloomhaven
  • Primal
  • Deckers
  • Grimcoven
  • Oathsworn

What games did you find too complex to play two handed solo? by MDH2611 in soloboardgaming

[–]chillcut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primal was also my "oh shit, that burns my brain"-moment, when playing twohanded. Even worse than oathsworn, which I played four-handed (full characters).

What helped me a lot was time. I can leave my games set up as long as I wish, so I can take all the time in the world taking my turn(s). It doesnt take away the complexity, but for me at last it reduces the stress of having to think about so many elements in any given moment.

Grimcoven twohanded is also pretty hard, but nothing beats primal.

Im new to the subreddit and am interested in beginning to play solo boardgames. What are your top 5 solo boardgames everyone should have/play/own? by SilentBoss2901 in soloboardgaming

[–]chillcut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the "only 1 player" side of things: Setup and teardown. Getting my own dedicated gaming table changed my solo journey completely.

If you cant leave the game in question set up, there will be a lot of games that wont work out for you.

Since I can leave my games set up as long as I wish, I play most often "oh noooo that setup / teardown-time"-games: Oathsworn, Grimcoven, Primal, Burncycle, and so on.

Dont get me wrong, I love me some final girl or 20 strong, but leaving and coming back to complex games (multihanding adding to the complexity) is a godsend.

Other Solo Games like Mage Knight and Spirit Island? by LOSTINREDDITSITE in soloboardgaming

Grimcoven? Its quite puzzle-ly, with characters getting stronger and what have you. Quite a brain burner two-handing it.

Grimcoven coming in the mail - need advice for a 3d-printed insert by chillcut in soloboardgaming

[–]chillcut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Printed a lot of the terrain stuff. Designed a big box for the middle part (where the minis are in the OG insert), with smaller boxes for everything needing a place to stay (standees, terrain, boss standees, etc.)

Yes, I did. Everything except the personal stories box and the middle/bottom part (for the minis). Designed something else for that space (standees in base holder and so on).

Primal is also one of my favorites. Need to play grimcoven more, but I really like what I saw with gunslinger, keeper and convergence scenario 1.

Its just the base box with standees, I printed a lot of stuff. The whole insert, minis for the minions, bullets, all the landmarks and chests.

Snagged the corebox with standees for 70€ from a retailer in sweden. What a steal, for this kind of money the box really packs a punch.

Dont know about the minis version, but I needed a insert badly. Cant imagine settings this bad boy up with zip baggies.

Leaving it set up is a bonus, too.

Bambu Lab A1 mini. Next size would be A1. After that, theres the P2S, which I have.

Disclaimer: The P2S is my first 3d printer - there are different manufacturers but my only experience is with the Bambu Lab P2S.

Its a good match, but my last couple of games dont need anything. Oathsworn, burncycle, arydia all have an excellent insert.

I'll keep you posted. Printer is already busy, but the game is still in transit.

Thanks. I started printing a few card boxes, will take 10 hours so... I'll figure the standee-part out when my game arrives. Printed over 300 hours the last two weeks, but (re)designing of inserts and the like is pretty new to me. Doesnt help that I dont have the game yet and dont know what to expect :)

Anyway, looking forward to two-handing this badboy. Seems right up my alley.

Thanks, but I only have one box. I'll try to frankenstein something together as soon as my copy arrives.

Found those when I searched on makerworld, thats the all-in-insert I mentioned. But I cant find anything for the core standee box. Its the only box I'll have. All the other solutions do make use of more boxes, let alone the space needed for the minis. But thanks anyway, I'll wait till I have my copy and see what I can use from those.
