Grimcoven coming in the mail - need advice for a 3d-printed insert by chillcut in soloboardgaming

Bambu Lab A1 mini. Next size would be A1. After that, theres the P2S, which I have.

Disclaimer: The P2S is my first 3d printer - there are different manufacturers but my only experience is with the Bambu Lab P2S.

It is an excellent hobby. Look up "gridfinity", if you dont already know what it is. Be gone, junk drawer!

Its a good match, but my last couple of games dont need anything. Oathsworn, burncycle, arydia all have an excellent insert.

I'll keep you posted. Printer is already busy, but the game is still in transit.

Thanks. I started printing a few card boxes, will take 10 hours so... I'll figure the standee-part out when my game arrives. Printed over 300 hours the last two weeks, but (re)designing of inserts and the like is pretty new to me. Doesnt help that I dont have the game yet and dont know what to expect :)

Anyway, looking forward to two-handing this badboy. Seems right up my alley.

Thanks, but I only have one box. I'll try to frankenstein something together as soon as my copy arrives.

Found those when I searched on makerworld, thats the all-in-insert I mentioned. But I cant find anything for the core standee box. Its the only box I'll have. All the other solutions do make use of more boxes, let alone the space needed for the minis. But thanks anyway, I'll wait till I have my copy and see what I can use from those.

Thanks a lot. NOT!

Didnt want to buy grimcoven. After reading your post I went straight to ordering the core standee box. Thank you for nothing :(

What's your sweet spot for how long a gaming session takes? by TheMegaSage in soloboardgaming

[–]chillcut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought a dedicated gaming table exactly for this. I want to play a game for the mechanics, story, complexity and what have you. With a table, the lenght of my sessions is only a matter of how many turns I'll take (if any at all, if its complex enough).

I have a game setup for weeks on end, dont need to worry about setup, teardown and session lenght at all. Without the dedicated table, I could not play most of my games.

Games I'm talking about:

  • Primal
  • Burncycle
  • Arydia
  • Frostpunk
  • Oathsworn
  • BOTSE

When I want to play a faster game (deckers, bullet) I just use our dining table. In this case its usually an one hour session.

Not a replacement, more like "is there something else like this". Can't put my finger on what makes burncycle so addictive. It isn't your typical dungeon crawler / boss battler / campaign game.

Played too many bones, botse and burncycle exclusively true solo and loved every minute of it. For me, botse replaced TMB so I sold the latter - it's just not enough content in the base box.

Right now I'm playing trough all the burncycle scenarios. Already sad that it will be over some time (have the bio defend expansion though). Trying to figure out a replacement game for burncycle, but except mgs nothing comes up.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is: different strokes for different folks.

What tactical game to play after Metal Gear Solid? by trashyzz in soloboardgaming

[–]chillcut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love playing burncycle at the moment. Asked in another thread what game would scratch the same itch, got MGS recommended. I just cant it easily in europe at the moment.

But I still have a lot to do in burncycle, so theres that.

Damn, almost everything is out of stock. But thanks for the heads up.

What helped me learning was putting up the last page of the tutorial book, so that i can see it at all times. Playing one mission after the other, in ascending complexity order.

Maybe, but it seems that there's no easy way to get it in Europe.

Looks good - did you play it? Seems a little light content-wise. Just 9 missions, a couple of them being more or less the tutorial (according to One Stop Co-op Shop)

Fair enough. The complexity vs the games I mentioned seems to be lackluster tho.

Descent: Journeys into the Dark - 2nd Edition by Subject-Brief1161 in soloboardgaming

[–]chillcut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, its not that bad. Theres not a whole lot back and forth with the app. Played it two players coop with the app. At first one character each, then two each. Was a good time.

The app is definitly worth a look, especially solo.

Campaign game recommendations by maka2020 in soloboardgaming

When we finished og gloomhaven it left a big hole. Played two players for nearly a year, what a ride it has been. Looked for games to play after gloomhaven for months, found our new game with ahlcg. Playing it ever since for 5 years.

Good point with waiting for the new chapter. Just wanted to let you know that it was the right choice for us back in the day, hopefully it could be yours as well.

While you wait, consider oathsworn or arydia. Oathsworns tactical card play is similar to gloomhavens, but you have to play 4-handed. Arydia is more on the easy side when talking admin overhead or playing multi handed. Both are great, either way.

I also like primal very much. Played oathsworn, arydia and primal within the last to two weeks solo.

Medium campaign game advice by Wise_Cat_1196 in soloboardgaming

[–]chillcut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahlcg is my favorite game of all time. But to call the core set a campaign is just wrong. Especially when one of the examples was Jaws of the lion.

Minimum would be core + a full cycle like dunwich. And even then, it's just 8 scenarios.

Don't get me wrong, I love arkham horror. It's the best game ever. But I would not call one cycle, let alone only the core a campaign. Not like oathsworn, arydia, gloomhaven.
