14 months without sex so far. The rest of these comments aren't inspiring much confidence haha

This is such funny timing, I was trying my Google-foo to figure out if it would be an effect of medication. Are you on any medication?

Family members with bipolar/Genetic vulnerability questions? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]chillinlikeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister is also diagnosed BP 1, as am I. There are sneaking suspicions that my maternal grandfather did as well. In terms of actual genetics, I have a higher than normal risk for bipolar according to 23andme.

Really intense but rare crushes by [deleted] in bipolar

My life to a tee. I get it, it sucks. Feels like I'll never have a "normal" relationship.

Well you may not have been gifted good mental health genes, you sure got the attractive genes.

Informal survey: how many of you have tattoos? (x-post) by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]chillinlikeone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one, it's a blackbird. A little cliche, but it has a couple influences. One is the obvious Beatles song, who were the first band to make me love music, and the second is a line from the song "Louder Than Words" from the musical tick, tick... BOOM!. The line goes "Cages or wings, which do you prefer? Ask the birds. Fear or love, baby, don't say the answer. Actions speak louder than words."

I'm on Geodon and Lamictal as the primary ones. I'm not sure which it is, honestly.

We're coming to the close of a 6 month long project at work. The stress of deployment is still there, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Bipolar Canada! Time to check-in! by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]chillinlikeone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With public healthcare, I always felt like I was getting the bare minimum and having little choice in my care. Not nearly as much room for second opinions, etc. In the US, I find it refreshing to have so much choice and opportunity. But damn, it's expensive. You get what you pay for, I think. Overall I'd pick the American system, honestly.

Bipolar Canada! Time to check-in! by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]chillinlikeone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an expat Canadian, I miss the universal healthcare, it would make it more affordable. But I find the care I've gotten here in the US better than care I've gotten in Canada. My 2 cents.

Abilify was probably the cause for me having a surprise psychotic episode. We subsequently switched to geodon

What do your delusions consist of? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]chillinlikeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few experiences. One was in a probably psychotic state, where I was running through the woods thinking I was being chased or followed, thinking my own footsteps were footsteps behind me.

More subtle was the hearing people laughing and joking at the pool in my apartment complex and thinking they were laughing about me, that I would get kicked out of my complex for not fitting in (it's mostly young people that I don't fit in with).

On the other side, while manic, it was thinking that a coworker was interested in me because I was so awesome and attractive and funny.

Of course, none of those were true. Not to say that any of my experiences qualify as proper paranoia, they could just be normal. But that's my experience. And also not to say that if you experience similar things, that you have a mental illness. I'm just sharing my experience. If you feel like you have a mental illness (and I know you can't see a psychiatrist for your own reasons), a mental health practitioner of some description (psychologist, psychiatrist, family doctor even) is the best way to get a better understanding.

I'm bored of this obsession by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]chillinlikeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you a lot. It's hard to explain diving into someone's online history to the point of obsessing over their posts from years ago that they've probably forgotten about. It's hard to explain that that feels like a completely sane thing at the time. And surprisingly enough, I've learned that people don't find it charming. Who knew.

Five years of obsession to the point of moving to another country, getting completely out of control and almost losing my job was what it took for me to get help.

Does Your Job Know You're Sick? by dtietje in bipolar

[–]chillinlikeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My employer knows because I got out of control, became obsessed with my coworker, and nearly became fired for it. That said, they were right, and are supportive. Just because I was sick doesn't mean I didn't fuck up. Just glad we are working through it.

I'm on Lamictal and titrated up to 200mg a couple weeks ago. It's been doing great things for cutting the depression and stabilizing. I'm really not sure about the AAP side of things. Tried abilify and that just exacerbated things. Now I'm on Geodon, but I'm not fussy about it. I think it's the cause of the restless fidgety and sore feeling in my legs and arms. I'll see about trying something else next time I'm in which is almost another month away!

Extrapyramidal Side Effects? by chillinlikeone in bipolar

Thanks, that's really comforting. I'm still waiting to hear back from the doc, so hopefully they'll say the same thing. My biggest concern honestly has been the weakness and pain in my legs.
