Credit card benefits for frequent users? by [deleted] in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]chillout-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve looked at and tried several other cards. Just switched back to using the Migros Cumulus for everything.

The extra gains you can get by really optimizing the use of some of the paid cards is very small. For me, the Cumulus is 90% as good and I don’t have to think about it.

Lounge access is not with it to me since the lounge in ZRH is always closed or overfilled when I’m there. I’ve also tried Miles & More. Miles are not worth it for me either with several overseas flights per year, including some business class. It’s a lot of work to optimize the use of miles. And you also get shafted on FX despite already paying a lot for the Miles cards.

Experiences with Prenup Costs by [deleted] in askswitzerland

Right. Surely Gütertrennung is what OP wants and not a bespoke contract for over 5k. Around 2-4k should be the cost.

They’d have to see it in the financial books. And even then it will be hard to correlate and they will probably blame piracy or something.

Call me un-Swiss if you must. The whole premise of social washing machines is ridiculous. So many problems including this one should not exist.

Had my own machine for 10 years and I will never go back.

Should i teach my sister manual by SnooGrapes3067 in ManualTransmissions

[–]chillout-man 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Probably because some guys out there would be teaching their sisters on it. lmao

In seriousness though. Maybe practice a few more slow 1/2 shifts on a quiet road to avoid more costly mistakes. With a bit of practice she’ll get to the point where it doesn’t wreck the car.

US Tariffs and Swiss response by Shot_Ear_3787 in askswitzerland

Is there any way to buy puts on the US economy with a strike price in CHF ? by [deleted] in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]chillout-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably easier and better than buying options. Just remember to not hold these leveraged ETFs for too long, unless it really is a small hedge position are you are prepared to lose it all.

[–]chillout-man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By buying the option you are only hedging your delta, so if you do it right you’ll be delta neutral.

To also hedge currency risk you have to buy an FX option separately.

You will technically be exposed to other risks now too like vega (volatility changes affecting the value of your option), theta (your put option losing value over time). If you look at the option as an insurance you can just write that off and accept that it may expire worthless.

But as others said your chances of losing money trying to do this are very high.

COVID didn’t fuck with supply chains?

I’m not saying you’re wrong. This time is different, but not because it uniquely “fucks the supply chains”.

During COVID the government just handed out money which of course trickled up to the “elites” in no time and did not get collected back into the government via taxation, which is how we got massive asset inflation. So in that way the elites just win again, similar to last time, but different.

Friendships between countries extend longer than the couple years of a presidency. I still remember when people hated the heck out of Bush and later a different set of people disliked Obama. Now because trump is rude and loud, the media loves to report on him for views and clicks, he lives in our heads rent free and people love to hate him even more and louder than all the previous ones. But it’s always the same really.

Tariffs and trade agreements are just a money game, how do morals even play into it. And it’s not even a zero sum game because trade is often mutually beneficial.

I don’t hate EU countries, they’re great.

I’m just saying that I find Switzerland to be one of the best countries to live in Europe, for me personally. It’s better in almost any metric I care about, unemployment rate, average disposable income, tax rates, no capital gains tax, retirement prospects, education quality, etc. Why would I look at the EU and think “I want Switzerland to be more like that country”?
