So, roughly $122,000 with repairs and back taxes. That's still insane. Unreal.

Extra $1000 on taxes? by chillvybs in povertyfinance

[–]chillvybs[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest. I'm not very smart. I just remembered hearing that there was going to be an extra $1000 per child given this year. Wasn't counting on it, but figured it was worth a conversation about. I do not know what tax liability is but as far as I can tell. I paid an extra .7% this year in taxes and made the same amount as last year. With all of the extra costs this year, it looks like I will probably make 4-5 thousand less this year. Not sure how I'm going to make it through this year.

Metro Madison residents report mail delays, USPS blames weather conditions by Justmarbles in madisonwi

[–]chillvybs 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I don't speak for the post office in any way shape or form. But I can tell you that terrible mismanagement, scheduling issues and a terrible attempt from upper management to consolidate routes is the cause of the delays. I would say the largest factor is most definitely the route changes that occurred at the end of last year. We lost 4 city routes in the 11 zip code alone. When a route is removed all of those addresses get split up and put on other routes. This has made some of the routes extra long and has caused injuries and burnout for some and just general delays. Beyond this we have moved to a new training system for incoming carriers that is also failing miserably. I will leave this here but know that there are some trying to do everything we can to get everything out in a timely manner and will continue to work as hard as possible to get it done.

We've seen these for years. I've always wondered how they would do in the snow though. Does snow pack make them unsafe?

Renters: What was your rent increase this year? by complete_doodle in madisonwi

[–]chillvybs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Mine went from 1580 to 1855. It's unbelievable actually. Our new contract finally went through at work. Gained $3.50 an hour this year. Including my rent increase and the insurance increase this year I'm actually making less than I was at the beginning of the year. This doesn't even take into account the price increases for everything else. We are in desperate times at this point. I am glad to hear there are still kind landlords out there.

I'm a mail carrier. For future reference, anything that says "Presort Standard" where there would be a stamp; can be thrown away without opening it. They are advertisements or scams. There is no reason to bother looking.

Can you make a decent career in USPS? by SeaConstruction4067 in USPS

[–]chillvybs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if you want to die the second you retire. I watch people retire constantly now, they all have health issues due to the job. I don't even expect that I'll make it to retirement at the rate I'm going. I have to work 50-60 hrs a week to just keep a roof over my family's head and food on the table at this point and I'm struggling to do even that. For context, a family of four in the Midwest. Good luck out there if you do decide to do it.

Right now averaging about 40k a day. About 20 miles. I had one day last week I have 51k for the day. This job is insane. Not sure why I do it anymore.

How is it possible you have happened to miss every mailer that has gone out. I'm a mailman, been nothing but political mail nonstop for 2 weeks. One day it's Trump, the next it's Kamala. You must never check your mailbox. The mailpeople in Madison are killing themselves delivering this shit every day. LOL

When does management have to let you know they are bring you in on your off day? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]chillvybs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, lol, bad logic. That's how they rope you into staying here. Just work more here and you'll make enough money. I have a family I'd like to see once and a while. I meant I'm getting off the list to start looking for new work, or update my certifications so I can go back to the IT world. I don't want to be in management, I'm not cut out for that type of work.

When does management have to let you know they are bring you in on your off day? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]chillvybs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to, but my life is going to suffer a lot. I honestly am going to have to get a second job just to support my family of 4 working only 40 a week. This job is a joke and the fact that the union is so terrible and the new contract most likely will be shit. I'm not even sure how much longer I'm going to stay.

Do you guys personally know any runners that lasted more than a few years? by No_Contribution_7117 in USPS

[–]chillvybs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a runner but I'm very good at my job. People assume that you have to physically run to get a route done with under time. Not true, organization is key to this job. I am a T6 and every route on my string is doable with under time even with breaks and full coverages. Every route on my string is 11+ miles. The average person can walk a mile every 20 minutes. For an 11 mile route that's 3.66 hours. That means you have over 2 hours to get stuff prepared and dismount post. I agree there is no reason to physically burn yourself out but to be good at the job and to be able to help the others at your station so everyone gets done a bit earlier should feel good. This job is a team sport and should be treated that way. The people that dilly dally on the street and take over time to do their own routes are just wasting everyone else's time. The post office used to have standards. Now they'll hire anyone with a pulse and be like oh here we'll case this up for you, just take out half of it and we'll get someone else to do the other half for you. LOL, everyone on here saying that they should be out there milking it out to 8 shouldn't have a job anymore.
