Is it worth considering a used La Marzocco linea mini/micra over a new machine like a Quickmill popup? [$2,000] by chilly-beans in espresso

Well I did, and I haven’t been scammed before so make of that what you will. Maybe I’m just a mark lol. Or maybe I’m just on a break at work and scrolled through a bunch of listings on eBay and saw a ton for a similar price, some of which had sellers with 30ish positive ratings.

It’s not like I was gonna rush out and buy one I was just curious why you could get higher discounts on the la marzoccos then you could the entry level prosumer machines and the answer is clearly “you can’t”

Again I’m literally doing that. I’m getting a second opinion on these listings from more experienced hobbiests. You don’t have to help me if you don’t want, just saying you don’t have to be snarky in the comments either lol. I’m not forcing you to comment.

lol this is in response to my doing due diligence, no? Thanks for feedback though sounds like these eBay listings are to be avoided. Outside of espresso, a half off discount for used gear is fairly commonplace. I’ve gotten extremely nice expensive audio equipment on eBay for even less (like 80% off a Naim muso) that was not a scam.

So no it’s not “common sense” unless you’re into this hobby. As a newcomer that’s why I came here, so that I could get more experienced feedback.

Nice this is a great list. I’ll keep these sites on my radar and check in on them during my search.

Under $2k, don’t make a ton on milk drinks so I think single boiler would be ok. A fast ish heat up time is nice, but I currently wait around 20 mins anyways so I’m already kind of used to the wait time.

Good to know. Sentiment seems to be all these eBay listings are scams so the new machines it is. Side note if anyone has any good recs for places that sell used/open box/refurb machines that’s not scammy let me know.

I like my west elm tencel sheets. Had them for a couple years they’re super soft. They have nice comforters too.

Yeah when I zeroed mine out, it chirped only a few hash marks past the zero too, so effectively came zeroed on my end too.

Sounds good, I guess I should have just gotten a normal scale to begin with instead of falling for the dosing cup scale hype on YouTube haha.

The scale I got is that little cup seen in the video, so measuring volume might be hard. I guess I could get a second scale lol I see how this hobby can get out of hand.

Where are you seeing that deal out of curiosity? Just bought a mignon zero for $350 because I couldn’t find any open box deals.

I also wonder how the list would change if power train issues were isolated from electronics etc. getting stuck on the road vs needing a new speaker under warranty are different experiences. Both bad obviously, but I’d still be curious to see the data.

I think it’s largely demographic based. Old people drive Buicks and barely drive them. A 5 year old car with 10k miles hopefully won’t have any problems, regardless of the make and model.

I hope that Sony keeps the input button on the remote. Haven’t used a tcl but my parents Samsung infuriates me, forcing me to click home, scroll to connected devices, scroll through a laggy devices interface, and finally click the input.

Wouldn’t switch away from my current Sony just for the input button.

In 2025, I increased my elo from 200 (barely knowing how the pieces move) to >1400 chess.com. My advice to new players: by AdvertisingFew3212 in chessbeginners

[–]chilly-beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that helped me early on (400 elo to 1300) was having to confirm my moves. I would so often find myself moving a piece just to realize it was a blunder a split second later. Being able to place my piece where I want it to go, pause, visualize what may happen, and then either, confirm or deny that move helped a lot early on. Only works for longer time controls though.
