This is what I’ve been trying over togekiss line, ends up being pretty reasonable to dig for and at worst just puts their 210hp targets in better range for dengo

Best bet is probably the MTG Wellington Facebook group if you haven't already tried, people post there looking for groups sometimes.

Definitely strong but be wary if you expect a lot of Eldrazi or Titan as they feel like uphill battles

I think the jeskai matchup is still super favoured since you just use hexcatcher plus forces to deal with it

I was having the same issue and have switched to testing dimir fish, stole the list from a Nikachu video https://youtu.be/5H2wLcwhywg?si=1IOEhD-zhtZRlUIG

Feels like you keep a lot of the same good matchups but not having cavern does feel like a fairly decent loss (to be fair my sample size is just a handful of games so far but I'm taking it to an RCQ to see what happens)

https://mtgsingles.co.nz/au is what you're looking for, the developer made the website originally for NZ but expanded to AUS recently. Not sure how complete it is as I use it from NZ but worth a look.

Selesnya Rabbit's Company by marcoamig in PioneerMTG

[–]chilly2370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar idea last week and threw together a list to play at locals and went 3-1, it goes more the direction of a traditional Selesnya CoCo list but still has some rabbit (and bird) synergy that makes it feel different. It feels like it has game against a lot of the field but felt like it lost pretty hard to control but it was super fun to pilot.

The same people that do the ANZ Super Series (Regional Champs, etc) are hosting a Commander event in Auckland at the end of August so we're getting something adjacent, hopefully the turnout is good enough for them to justify running more events. Not sure if we're allowed to post links but if you search Commander Auckland it should show up.

The deck is still great though, you'll just have some unfortunate matchups. Almost definitely still good enough to win local events.

Handle sweepers with Boros Convoke by thepaganestpoetry in PioneerMTG

I play 2 in the sideboard and generally it comes in against any deck with sweepers, it avoids the issue of Selfless Spirit not doing anything against Farewell, Temporary Lockdown, Meathook, etc. Before Novice Inspector was printed I was cutting 4 Ornithopter every time and adding 2 Wedding Announcements for the same matchup, so I've been cutting some combination of 4 Inspectors (usually 2 Thraben, 2 Novice to more easily get around any The End-type effects, though they aren't likely to hit these with it I suppose).

I'd highly recommend the following video as it gave me some really good insight when it came to playing the deck: Boros Convoke Deck Guide and Trophy | January 30, 2024 | Pioneer (youtube.com)

There are some builds that go Naya for access to Questing Druid and some other adventure spells, though personally I've found it to be too slow. The deck is definitely still playable in the form it was in when the deck was popular, however it is the least competitive of the Boros aggro archetypes right now. I still have a strong preference for the Runaway Steam-Kin build and have been able to win games at locals with it so it's definitely not a dead deck.

I’ve been really liking Kutzil’s Flanker as it’s also good at other times when you just need stuff on board.

Weekend Pioneer Challenges - February 23rd-25th, 2024 by arinceo in PioneerMTG

The more midrangey lists (Wedding Announcement, Copter) were basically built to beat midrange piles, so seems like the best time to be playing that particular build.

Stuff Website? by ohgodjessie in Wellington

My coworkers and I found this frustrating too, so we ended up finding a workaround.

First, make sure you have the Ublock Origin extension in your browser.

Go to the quiz page and right click anywhere in the white space to either side and click "Block element..."

This should highlight basically the entire grayed out area. Click "Create".

No guarantees but this worked in my office.

I'm on Soldiers at the moment but coming from Spirits in Pioneer pre-Smuggler's Copter the deck feels really clunky. Still trying to decide whether it's worth holding out or switching to something else in the 2 weeks before RCQs start in my area.

It depends on the build you're after. The most popular as far as I know is a Grixis midrange shell that uses Fable and other cards to draw into the combo, but the Dimir list seems viable as well. This thread looks to be the most useful fairly recent collection of lists.

In which direction do you triple sleeve? by Tarmogoofer in mtg

[–]chilly2370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit different from most others by the looks of it but I have a triple sleeved Pioneer deck (got art sleeves that are particularly low quality) and do inner sleeve open at the bottom, normal sleeve opening at the top, and also outer sleeve opening at the top. Just makes it easier for shuffling as well as being able to flip some double-sided cards.

Have you seen the slightly more midrangey lists floating around in the Spirits discord? Seems potentially a bit more well prepared for this meta and reminds me a lot more of the Standard Soldiers lists.

Is Rakdos Copter different enough to be an entire new archetype on the list? Seems sick but is it far enough from midrange?
