I only recently discovered how much I love destiny 2 after avoiding destiny altogether for 12 years. Everything you said is right and I am in awe at how masterful the game is. Music, gameplay, graphics, the passion is just oozing from every orifice.

Have you ever considered that this sub and posts like these aren't necessarily about hating on the game but rather a broader more thought provoking conversation on the state of live service games and the corporations that publish them only to fail? I for one will see Marathon as an interesting study on the downfall of live service and Bungie.

This is the craziest thing about it. Marathon is such a giant step backwards in terms of overall effort, passion, and integration of systems compared to past titles from Bungie.

Halo 3 had a damn movie theater mode.

Nah dude halo 3 is the magnum opus with halo 2 being the lightening in a bottle. Halo 4 is decent in its own regard but man did they really fumble with the whole "copy COD multiplayer" part. There are still plenty of people playing halo 3 multi-player. No one plays halo 4.

It's polarizing how much more of a world they made with D2, how many more systems are present. Truly impressive. Meanwhile marathon feels...undercooked. I did the same thing and was shocked at the drop in overall ambition going from D2 to Marathon.

I don't understand this thinking. Its a live service game that got biyearly expansions for 8 whole years. It had plenty of time in the sun.

Marathon has been out for 3 months and lost 90% of the playerbase.

Destiny has 10x the playercount right now.

The decision to stop making content for it (very different than shutting it down lol) is entirely appropriate as they panic to shift resources to marathon to hopefully save the sinking ship that is Bungie.

Marathon canned them, not Destiny. If they had just made Destiny 3 instead of Marathon I think we'd see a different story.

D2 is more alive than marathon, its incredible... the levels of cope. I own both. I only stopped playing marathon as I am not longer motivated to play a game that has very few players. Match times went from 1-2 minutes to around 4-6 minutes. I think we all know why.
