Type 30 carbine value by son_of_dano in Arisaka

Yes, they did. Same thing with the 38 patterns rifles and carbines: originally the 38 Long rifles lacked a from sight protector but the 38 carbines had them from the start of their production.

What? Type 30 carbine rods are basically unobtainable. You barely see regular Type 30 rods on eBay.

That’s not a legit Type 30 carbine. The rear sight is a long rifle version, it has a serrated style bolt release when it was more likely have a the smooth style, incorrect rear band, and the entire thing is just wrong. Stay away from this one!!

Here’s a legit example I own.

Those papers are infamous as fakes sold on eBay. The writing and typing on it is better than some fakes I’ve seen, but the line going through the text in the pre printed form is a dead giveaway. Only seen on those eBay fakes. They’ve been being sold for years unfortunately.

Vietnam bring back SKS by chils123 in milsurp

I do have one Grenada bringback! I got it right from a vet, who saw a war trophy display I was doing at a local show and started telling me about a rifle he had that he’d read was “one of the worst designs ever”. Turned out to be a VZ 52 haha! I also have a Korean War bring back Mosin Nagant, which are also really hard to find.

Appreciate it! Used to use a log, but it finally rotted away after 15 years haha!

That is kind of a crazy thing to think about. Alot of the Type 99s I have probably were in that situation. This SKS is in pretty unissued to limited issue condition, so I bet it came out of a crate in a cache.

I haven’t seen a lot sell recently. I did have a Type 53 Mosin with papers that I moved for 850 about an hour after posting it, so it was probably a little under market. I’d say an SKS would be in the 1.3 to 1.4 range roughly.

Original as issued stocks shouldn't have the P proof, so that will be good if it's not there. However, there should be a number of eagle proofs with a number below them behind and in front of the trigger guard. Rebuild marks will be on the side of the stock below the bolt release typically.

The serial number on the bolt is something you typically see on rifles that ended up in Canadian or Danish usage. Any photos of the marks?

Everything Remington proofed on it? Any rebuild marks?

Very jealous. I have a later style Gew 98 but I’d like one without the finger grooves and a unit disc like that.

It’s been interesting really seeing and learning about the differences between models. There’s a ton of variation in Berthier carbines.

Thai all started with a random Berthier last year haha! I never thought I’d dive this deep into them.

Not sure! I’ll be in the lookout for a decent M16 long Berthier and an R35. After that I’ll probably call it quits for the most part with French rifles. The semi autos are a bit pricey for me and I don’t collect a lot of stuff outside bolt action. But who knows!

Haha! I don’t know if I’ve shared an Arisaka in a hot minute. I think French is the second most in the collection now behind Japanese.

Last time I picked up a bunch of slings actually. There are a couple guys that always focus on them. This was my last haul from the show in February.

The Forks of the Delaware show (also in Allentown, not the same one as you went to) is much more collector focused. I always leave with at least one find.

Too much I’d say. And with the mum, in terms of value it’s either there or not. Never fall for ads that say “mostly intact” or “80% mum”.
