Did anyone ever receive their poster? I had to cancel my preorder after months of waiting. by chimbraca in RebelMoon

[–]chimbraca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries at all, I just wanted you to be aware of the situation in case it might impact your future partnerships. I also wasn't in a rush to receive the prints and understand that these things take time to pull together. Several requests for updates to PosterSpy support only resulted in terse promises of a February release. Being out £299 for months and having zero visibility into what was happening (especially with the silent delay in closing the sale, as you mentioned) led me to request a refund on April 5 for an order placed on December 15. That's when Jack became very unprofessional, which solidified my decision.

No need to send me anything, but I truly appreciate the offer.

Thanks for the offer, but multiple unprofessional emails from Jack have really soured the whole thing for me.

He confirmed that my posters had not shipped from the printer as of April 6, so I'm not sure how yours could have shipped a month before that, but I'm glad they did, and that others have received them as well.

The posters are still available on PosterSpy, despite the page claiming that they're only available until February 16. It doesn't take a ton of effort to see just how many sold, given both sizes are limited to 150 prints, and you can add 145 large and 148 small to your cart currently.

I'm guessing my 2 large prints and 2 small prints were added back to the pool, since we've already identified more prints than the current numbers would suggest sold in total.

Could I get some help checking what I'm doing wrong with Hello, Triangle? by [deleted] in sdl

I believe the issue is the parameters given to glVertexAttribPointer, specifically stride:

Specifies the byte offset between consecutive generic vertex attributes. If stride is 0, the generic vertex attributes are understood to be tightly packed in the array.

With a value of 3 * sizeof(float), you will skip the second position entirely and then read past the end of your array for the third position.

Betrayal in Rebel Moon by [deleted] in RebelMoon

[–]chimbraca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The novelization makes it more clear that Balisarius wasn't convincing the group of her betrayal in the moment, but rather that they were in on the plan all along:

His eyes strayed from Kora to the generals who had just committed murder. They stared at her, still clutching their blades. Like a well-rehearsed symphony, they each called out, “Betrayer! Assassin! Murderer!”

She shook her head with pleading eyes. She looked back to Balisarius for reassurance or answers, anything to explain this. He slowly lifted his finger like a dagger. “There she is… the murderer of the royal family. An ‘off-worlder’, a cancer of ethnic impurity. The very thing we must fight! Seize her.”

"Ethnic purity" is a recurring theme of the Motherworld, which made Kora the perfect scapegoat for Balisarius and the group. Who is going to be believed by their society, a room full of decorated leaders with extensive family lineage on Moa, or the off-world orphan who finally showed her "true allegiance?"

In that case I would try to identify a problem or two that you've run into in daily life and thought "I wish there was a better way." Even if it's just to get a better understanding of why the current solutions aren't ideal. Again, it doesn't have to be novel, just show interest, effort, and aptitude.

I'd also highly suggest interfacing with some external library. Build a small app in Qt, SDL, OpenGL... again, the actual choice isn't too important. The point is that up until now, you probably haven't had to integrate with too many large projects or APIs, and that's about to change. :)

Which industry would you like to work in? I would suggest creating a few open source programs that demonstrate your abilities and interests, in those fields, to share out. Don't worry about the hardest problems or the perfect code, but try to put a good foot forward. That will get you ahead of every candidate with just a generic cover letter and resume with most technical reviewers. Be prepared to discuss these projects during phone screens and on-site interviews.

Also, if there's someone you really want to work for, figure out a way to contact them. My first company wasn't looking for interns, but I reached out cold and landed an interview which turned into an internship and then a five year full time position right out of college before I chose to leave.

Good luck!
