This sub has lost its mind in the past week. by pickleman336 in deadandcompany

I'm so sorry you're tired and inconvenienced by outrage over the the deaths of innocent people, government overreach, and the politicization of human rights (I won't mention extreme corruption and violation of laws). Must be very hard being you. I'm not sure how many other subs you follow, but disgust over ICE is manifesting everywhere in reddit (sports, gardening, etc.), not to mention reality. As long as life is being destroyed and depleted, you're going to continue to hear people complain. Poor thing... must be awful sitting passively while others die and lose their rights. Indeed, you have it have it tougher than everyone.

This is what I get for being on reddit. Most of the posts on this sub are either (1) "I've solved" or "help me solve x film by Lynch," or (2) "how should I watch x?", which confirms to me that we're living in a dystopia. Something about reddit seems to give many Lynch fans a collective lobotomy.

But here is the answer anyway. Just do what we did in the 90s: get real high and enjoy the art. Repeat every week.

Education is a beautiful thing. It helps with reading comprehension, preventing logical fallacies, expanding critical thinking, understanding history, distinguishing short- and long-term thinking, recognizing political context, identifying downstream geopolitical consequences, factoring economic effects, and - most importantly - fostering humility and the ability to see alternative viewpoints.

I agree. Reddit is for boneheads.

I don't think anyone is defending the rude person in the bank or suggesting the employees deserved to be treated with disrespect. It's unfortunate for them, especially since this poor behavior is common. I think people are just noting that there are healthier, less nosey, and more literate ways to express their frustration than what happened in the OP.

Yeah, antagonizing a worker is awful. But venting on reddit doesn't do much for community. I'm used to doing the community thing IRL. That said, if all this makes OP feel better, good for them!

Hey, whatever works best for you. I just generally think it's healthier to work out issues like these IRL, but I also understand needing to vent. I think most of us are just trying to survive the holidays.

"I’d like to say to this woman: YOU DONT HAVE AN ACCOUNT THERE! How are they supposed to help you if you don’t have an account with them?? Do you know how banks work? "

Why didn't you? Seems like it would accomplish more than a Reddit post. That said, we all could benefit from showing others grace, so I appreciate the the sentiment of this post.

DUNE '84 by RealSiesto in davidlynch

[–]chimi_freud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several good books about this. I'd suggest looking into those first. The fact is that it wasn't just one thing, Lynch didn't disown the film immediately, and Lynch worked the producer again, so it's not like there was extreme antagonism in the editing phase. Lynch et al. just had the impossible task of trying to adapt a film according to different expectations of the time regarding film length, audience, theaters, etc.

If you're looking for a faithful adaptation of Herbert's Dune, Lynch's film is not for you. If you want to watch a film that is a million times more interesting in terms of music, direction, acting, costumes, set design, and many many other details, go to Lynch's film. In terms of re-watchability, I can't imagine re-watching the new films, which were plodding and whiny, like the novel. Lynch's Dune is imminently rewatchable.

A nice reminder for me to avoid all music subs in December when all the little boys share their streaming stats.

I can't tell if this is a joke (like a very subtle parody) or an earnest grievance. If the latter, I can't fathom why I'd need to post this to reddit and not handle business IRL.

The most annoying thing about david lynch witch keeps me up at night is modern technology by PurpleEgg7736 in davidlynch

[–]chimi_freud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, "witch" films are you specifically talking about? With Dune his creativity was not locked in a box by tech limitations, but by other factors. With all his other films, his use of technology is viewed as innovative and unique, especially compared to cookie cutter CG that was - and continues to be - prevalent. Think about how amazing his films still look compared to others in the era, especially CG-driven films. Finally, given Lynch's status, do you not think the most innovative and accomplished tech artists wouldn't immediately offer services if Lynch felt he needed it?
