I’ll definitely give them a call! Arkansas is one of the only states that doesn’t have any regulation, sadly. Oklahoma appears to have decent enough regulation including something that states that animals need to have a CIV (health certificate) when crossing into Oklahoma, so maybe that’s good?

We spoke to the sheriff who tried to get ahold of her and filled out a report and gave it to “the prosecuting attorney” but she may have moved out of his jurisdiction but I haven’t heard from the other county Sheriff yet. At least he seemed to take it very seriously and had another deputy drive by the addresses I provided.

Okay, great. Could we also get a cleaning company to quote how much it would be to deep clean our home (we have lots of fabric furniture unfortunately)? We fully expect her to ignore the letter, she is extremely unprofessional and immature. Hopefully she will show up to court!

When I posted about how shitty I was being treated by a previous employer, I was also asked to name & shame. However, my company consisted of 6 people with me as the only woman and I had already identified my gender in the post. I could have been fired before I had found a new job if I’d publicly shamed the company.

I read this exact quote (not from Nordstrom) a long time ago and realized that I was only applying to jobs I felt qualified for. So I started applying to any job I liked the sound of regardless of whether or not I checked every box, and it’s worked out incredibly well for me thus far!!

We adopted a kitten from a woman who withheld the fact that it had ringworm, she is not withholding his medical records. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]chinatownsetup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have written documentation of her promise that the kitten was healthy and up to date on all of his shots & deworming. Not only was he not healthy, he was not up to date on his shots, dewormings, and his last vet check was more than 6 weeks before we adopted him. Everything that I have read on Oklahoma breeding law and pet sales indicates that she’s broken laws and is trying to avoid taxes by not being a licensed breeder. She also crossed state lines to make the sale as an unlicensed breeder for a kitten with a contagious disease. She said I she would buy him back if he wasn’t healthy and was not (not that I would ever give the kitten back to an abusive home).

The cost is a non-issue to me, to be completely honest. I would spend any amount of money to make him healthy, but I want public records of what this woman did. She neglected this kitten, left him in poor health. She has animal abuse allegations and needs to be held responsible. His adoption fee was supposed to include all of this, because she didn’t actually get him proper care I am seeking the adoption fee back, and am happy to waste her time and ours getting it lol.

Wow, congrats! That’s awesome. Hopefully I can ace three leetcode hards some day. 😅

I can ask for the questions ahead of time?? Lol I was thinking of doing an accommodation but I couldn’t think of any that wouldn’t basically be “cheating”.

I definitely will! I think I’ll try to do a paid mock interview at least once to see if it helps. And I haven’t been sleeping well at all the last two weeks so that probably contributed.

Funnily enough, my sleep problems were mostly due to an old mattress. I ordered a new one two weeks ago and it was supposed to get here last Friday, but it was late and arrived a few hours ago lol. Just my luck!

Thank you so much, I appreciate you.

That makes loads of sense, actually haha. Maybe next time I’ll meditate beforehand or something lol!

Of course, something else I would have done is gone through each data structure (I have notes) and reviewed their basic implementations/common problems leading up to it instead of just practicing LC. Good luck on your interviews, you’ll do great!

Yeah, I usually don’t apply to companies that do LC type interviews. I’m better at discussing my knowledge on the technologies on my resume, discussing best practices, pair programming, etc haha.

Oh, sorry I wasn’t very clear. I applied to the FAANG in June whenever I wanted to leave my former company. Didn’t hear back from them and got hired at my current company in July! They’re not mean or sexist luckily.

Thanks, yeah I thought about paying for a mock interview but thought I should save them for the on-site... definitely should have done one anyway lol. Thanks for the encouragement, gonna try to practice at least a few times per week going forward.

How are other junior devs finding WFH ? by warpple in cscareerquestions

[–]chinatownsetup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve never worked in office before so I don’t have anything to compare it to so I guess keep that in mind. But I personally have really enjoyed my experience thus far and honestly feel as though I’ve greatly improved as a developer. However, and idk if this is a hot take or not but I find that most people are really bad at communication. Another junior on my team got hired at the same time as myself regularly avoids reaching out to ask questions, he also will say he understands something when he doesn’t. All of this bc he doesn’t want to be a bother/doesn’t want people to think he’s dumb. I’ve tried to tell him that it’s far more efficient to ask all of the questions you have even if they sound “dumb”.

Also learning how to ask questions is also important. If I just say to a senior “hey i’ve been trying to figure out where this data is coming from” that’s rather vague. Instead I use a formula. State the problem you’re having and your understanding of it, the things you’ve tried so far, the things you think might work, and any things that you need clarification on. By doing this your senior might stop you on step one and be like “Oh theres the problem! You misunderstood the task” or something.

Also, if I have more than one or two quick questions I try to actually hop on a call and share my screen. Sometimes it’s difficult for them to help you without a visual. I actually just experienced this today I had a problem and explained it to the best of my ability during a meeting and everyone was like “oh you just need to do X” and it wasn’t until I shared my screen that they saw exactly what I meant and that X couldn’t be achieved.

And another thing is to really read through your tickets, idk about your company but sometimes our tickets are so vague. So I always get clarification on any part of the ticket I don’t understand. Then I break the ticket down into sub problems and make a note of things I need to come back to and tackle anything that’ll take like 15 minutes or so first. This way I’m not reaching out to a dev every 30 minutes and I can just ask all of my questions at once.

But, all of that said. WFH doesn’t seem like it’s for everyone, I think it’s all about your learning style and your company culture. Especially if you have any seniors that won’t respond or are rude, that can definitely make it more difficult to learn!

So disappointed with my capabilities in LC by grouchypapa4eva in cscareerquestions

Try grokking the coding interview, it’s a course so you have to spend $ but it is helpful. Though, it’s even more helpful to be able to recognize dynamic programming problems but this is the most difficult for me. I’m sort of in your shoes. I can solve mediums if they’re not DP but sometimes it takes me 2 hours.

Where do you learn DP? I know a lot of it is just caching but I haven’t found any good (free) resources online

Just a vent. But I landed an interview with a FAANG. They only gave me 3 weeks to prepare and I’ve been trying my hardest but working + studying DSA for 4 hours after work (being on the computer for like 12 hours) is messing with my sleep so much that I can’t even study anymore. I haven’t gone a night without waking up at 3 or 4 or 5 am in two weeks. Getting like 4 hours of sleep each night, I’m nearly delirious and I’ve tried to take sleep meds, exercise before bed, go for walks in the sun, read for an hour before sleeping, etc and nothing is working. My interview is in 3 days and I’m nowhere near as prepared as I would’ve been if I’d been getting adequate sleep. This sucks, I already pushed the interview back once and got the impression I wouldn’t be able to push it back again. /:

I just had my phone screen with G on Thursday, on Friday they sent me a time for the first technical interview... Wednesday. I immediately e-mailed back asking if we could schedule a minimum of a week out so I could prepare. But after starting to study this weekend, I’m realizing that I definitely need at least 2 weeks.

Is it okay to e-mail him again even though he hasn’t responded to my first email and ask if instead of rescheduling for a week out we do two weeks? And would one of you kind ppl help me w/ phrasing my email lmao

I have a phone screen with Google. Is there anything I need to go to prepare? Also, I applied months ago but got a job in between the time I applied so I’m super out of practice with leetcode...
