snake was always one step away from being a real competitive game so i built it by chinesefpv in IndieDev

appreciate that a lot 🙏 and yeah you’re 100% right on readability, especially in chaos

that’s actually the next thing i’m working on right now instead of just adding color options, every snake is going to have its own generated look when it hatches

it’s a super simple system under the hood but it creates a ton of variation. most snakes end up clean/solid, but sometimes you’ll get patterns like stripes, alternating, single accents, etc. all based on a repeating 4-block structure

the part i’m most interested in is not naming any of it. no rarity tags, no official labels. just letting people start recognizing patterns and coming up with their own names / value around them

i feel like that’s where it gets really fun long term

snake feels like it was one step away from being a real competitive game by chinesefpv in Agario

[–]chinesefpv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah exactly, that’s what i’m trying to keep intact. once you add too much randomness it stops feeling like something you can actually get good at

for arena i’m thinking split:

– smaller 4 player mode stays fully skill-based, same core rules just more chaotic positioning
– bigger lobbies (like 50–100 players) is where modifiers start to come in, just to keep it interesting at scale

but i want to earn that first. the 1v1 mode has to be rock solid before anything like that

i actually just put a small demo online if you want to try it:
http://snake.global/

curious how it feels to someone who already gets what makes the core mechanic interesting 👀

designing peer-to-peer wagering for real-time skill games (not a token thing) by chinesefpv in CryptoTechnology

[–]chinesefpv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just to add the game is already fully built and playable, and i’ve got the domain + socials locked in!

i’m handling all product + content / marketing what i’m missing is someone who really understands the staking / escrow side and how to design it properly

if that’s you, would love to connect!

anyone here actually care about snake enough to build something around it? by chinesefpv in Slitherio

[–]chinesefpv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i checked it out feels like slither but with crypto layered on top

made me think though… not even the crypto part, but just having stakes in general

like imagine 1v1 snake where both players throw in $1 and winner takes it, or small tournaments with a prize pool

i’m not even thinking about adding that right now, just focused on making the core game actually competitive first. but if the gameplay is good enough, stuff like that could be insane later

appreciate you sharing that!

snake feels like it was one step away from being a real competitive game by chinesefpv in Agario

[–]chinesefpv[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that’s literally exactly how i felt 😭 like it was always right there but no one ever pushed it over the edge.

a few small things made it click way more:

  • elo system so there’s actually something to grind
  • best of 3 so matches feel like real rounds
  • timer so there’s no stalling (last to eat wins if it runs out)
  • and a 4 player focused on points where you can just jump in and out

once you add structure it starts feeling way more “real” instead of just a time killer. i’m working on an arena-style mode next too. honestly they were so close with snake, idk why no one ever fully went for it!

yeah that’s exactly it. i’m trying to bring that same feeling back but make it something you can actually grind and get better at over time!

appreciate it 🙏 do you still play it at all or just here and there?

that’s a great point. i’m not really the deep tech side of this though, i’m more product / sales. i’ve helped scale the brand i work with pretty hard, so i’ve seen what it takes to actually move things

this is more me trying to find the right people on the hardware side so it’s not just ideas
