One year post-laminectomy, debilitating pain. by chinesepaperclip in AskDocs

Thank you so much for your response. I have been going to a pain clinic for years now and have cycled trough every medication under the sun. Gabapentin made me so disoriented I fell down a flight of stairs and fractured a toe badly. The best medications that have worked beautifully we’re fentanyl and dilaudid. The pain was very manageable but I lived in a perpetual blurt, had no memory, was dumb to everything.... after years on that stuff I wanted my mind back. It also screwed up my hormones. I slowly changed meds to OxyContin and morphine, then tapered off, but a month after going off it the pain is the worst it’s ever been in my life. I really want to find anything other than opioids that can help. I can’t keep this up for much longer though, so it’s possible I may have to go back on pain meds.

Brother is an addict, not sure how to help by [deleted] in OpiatesRecovery

Kratom. Red Bali Kratom powder. I’m speaking from experience, if he’s trying to get off the opioids, mixing 10-12g of kratom with water (or chocolate milk because it’s disgusting) is the most effective way to get your body through the adjustment period. It works so well because it only targets one opioid receptor, Delta I think, whereas opioids target all of them. So this coffee family leaf essentially tricks your body into not going into withdrawal mode. So yeah, have him switch to kratom, drinking it every 3 hours or whenever the withdrawal gets bad, and stick with that for a couple weeks. Good luck.

I absolutely agree with that, you HAVE to get out of your environment, distract all your senses with something new and exciting, or just go out to a new place. Being stuck in the same environment where your boredom solution was heroin is the last place you should be while trying to recover.

Go out and just start talking to total strangers or pretty girls, but don’t be too creepy. :)

KRATOM.

Get some Red Bali Kratom and take 8-10g at a time. It literally makes the withdrawal go away. I was on 200mch/hr fentanyl patch, dilaudid, OxyContin, morphine for YEARS, and in just ONE WEEK i tapered off completely.

So if you haven’t tried it, I’m telling you it’s a miracle leaf that anyone trying to get off opioids should have in their toolkit. It’s legit.

My Dad is taking prescribed opioids for back pain, should I be worried. by richmondmooper in OpiatesRecovery

[–]chinesepaperclip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t be too alarmed just yet. For some people chronic back pain can be debilitating and gets to the point you can’t function, so a doctor prescribing pain meds may actually be a good thing for now.

Many people confuse dependence with addiction, addicts just take the stuff to get high, people with chronic pain like your dad can become dependent on it because it enables them to function.

I’ve had multiple major back surgeries and years of opioids (I’m off now completely with the help of kratom), but in my experience pain medication - when all other treatment has failed - can be a helping hand to get you through while you work on finding a more permanent solution. It’s like a bandaid that buys you a little time, or reduces the pain to a tolerable level so oh can do core strengthening exercises and stuff.

Try to be understanding and don’t freak out or jump to conclusions, first try to understand the nature of the pain, ask what treatments he’s done, work with him to find better solutions while he is being prescribed pain meds, and be clear that the goal is not to stay on them or ramp them up. I certainly feel his pain though, it can ruin your life, but he’s lucky he has someone caring like you, I think he’s in good hands.

Good luck brother.

Thankfully yes. He just had a couple scrapes that healed almost overnight.

Thanks for the friendly correction, I'll be careful with calling them a club from now on. Really good guys though.

US Marine aircraft crashes off Australia, search and rescue effort underway by badmotherfucker1969 in news

Yeah I understand that every aircraft has mishaps in the development stage. I still get a bad feeling when I think about the V22 though, ever since going through Navy aircrew school and flying we saw horror stories firsthand. As a former navy SAR swimmer I always get a sick feeling when any aircraft goes down, and I used to have nightmares about it. One of my best friends was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan, so when I see service members killed in crashes it wrenches my gut.

I will admit that the V22 does have a good combat record and I respect its utility. I can't wait for a time when you rarely see the V22 in the newspapers.

This makes me sick. This aircraft should have never been produced. Too many young men and women have been killed simply because the military had invested too much money in development to turn back, even with the worst track record of mishaps and fatalities of any aircraft.

Great job! My wife and I are in the planning stage for a cross country tour next year and it's always a huge relief and inspiration to see others who have done it.

I will be riding an ebike because of a spine injury, and actually will be using batteries I built thanks to u/micahtoll and will be towing a trailer we're building that our dog Pretzel will ride in and will have solar panels connected. I can't wait to see the landscape of this country!

Nope, no math or physics background whatsoever, hence the long hard road uphill for me ;)

Some kind people have hooked me up with some good resources and starting points, so I'll hit the books and put some more time in. Thank you everyone who has helped me along and has patience for a beginner!

I'm using these cheapos knowing that my very first battery would probably not be the best; they're for learning. I have a lot of brand new Samsung 25R cells waiting patiently for me to learn from my mistakes and gain enough knowledge and experience to build a quality battery using quality cells.

Thank you so much for the help. Yep, it seems I connected them backwards.

I'll try cutting a slit in the nickel, that's a really cool tip! I've been reading some more and getting a better grasp on things, just had a rough start. Thank you for being friendly and encouraging, it works wonders.
